Sync3 "Audio Off" is Persistant

Recommended Posts

I've had my 2017 Fusion Titanium since July and I've had the "No Audio" issue 10+ times so far.  When I remote start and enter the vehicle after some time I'm greeted with "No Audio" on the screen and GPS is also not functional.  I'm 90% sure this happens when my phone (iPhone 6s) goes in and out of bluetooth range while the car has been remote started.  I've seen several accounts of this, but not a permanent fix or even anything I would call a reasonable solution/workaround.  I have updated to Build# 19205_PRODUCT

If I pull the battery terminal it will work again.

A soft reset does nothing to solve the problem.

I've tried the "enter a cd" trick.  The cd deck won't respond to a disc when it's locked up like this

I was successful in getting it to reset by pulling a few fuses, but I had trouble getting a positive result after pulling the same series of fuses on another instance.

I'm about ready to drill a hole in the dash and install a race car style relay to kill the battery from the driver seat.  I wish I was joking.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried pressing and holding in the CD eject button for 20 seconds?

This forces a power-cycle styled reset of the media system - and might help.

Of course this isn't usually required, so it does sound like you need to replace a faulty part - but maybe this reset method can help until you get a proper repair done?

Hi moped. Is your Fusion still within the 3 year/36,000 mile Bumper to Bumper Warranty or an ESP/extended warranty? If yes, make a service appointment. Could be a failing/bad APIM or any of several other issues.

Thanks for the ideas!  Unfortunately it's locked up on me several more times.

@asteele I don't get any response from holding the eject button when it's locked up.  I'll try it when it's working to see if it resets then

@bbf2530 I'm a little outside the warranty, so I'm leery about changing parts just yet.  It seems to me like a software problem, but I can certainly be wrong.

I've noticed that I lose satellite signal when this happens, but not always at first.  Maybe it's time to look at hardware..

Holding the Eject and Right Seek, should reset it .  I believe this will only work when it's responding.... it's like a Master Reset, but also does the ACM (CD player etc...)

If not, then it might either be the APIM or ACM

Not sure if you are one of the ones covered by this.. I know when I had my 2013 it was... (even though this talks about up to 2014)

I have some more info to provide.  PLEASE HELP!

There are consistent issues with navigation when this happens.  Sometimes the location on the map works, sometimes it doesn't.  Sometimes it has the "no gps" symbol present, sometimes it doesn't.  Navigation is almost always affected in one way or another.

I bought a ODB adapter and downloaded Forscan and while it's in it's non working state, Forscan does not detect an ACM at all.  If I remove power for a hard reset and re-scan in Forscan, it will find the ACM.

If i run a test on the APIM while it's locked up (and there's no ACM being detected by Forscan), I get a DTC:

Quote

(OK) [07:31:48.341] On Demand Self-Test has been started
(WARN) [07:31:55.522] Test completed, found DTCs: U1A00:87

===DTC U1A00:87===
Code: U1A00 - Private Communication Network

Additional Fault Symptom:
 - Missing Message

Module: Accessory Protocol Interface Module===END DTC U1A00:87===

After a hard reset (Cut Power) I can run a test on the APIM and the ACM without any DTCs.

I was thinking very strongly that this was the APIM, but I'm now starting to be suspicious of the ACM as well.

I then pulled out the ACM and APIM and had a look at them and I see a sticker on the ACM that looks a lot like a stock/inventory number a parts house might use.  I am not the original owner, and I'm starting to wonder if the ACM has been replaced before.

Does the fact navigation is affected point to APIM?
Does the fact that my ACM has Sirius mean it's tied to the satellite coax and that could be the reason it's affecting the Nav functoin?

Do I have a bad antenna/coax that's causing this whole mess?

Thoughts?

I believe the ACM (cd player AM/FM Sat Radio) and the APIM talk to one another a lot.... so if the ACM is bad or going bad, it might affect the APIM , you would get other errors about the antenna in Forscan...

this is all IMHO

The error you showed is the APIM (Module: Accessory Protocol Interface Module===END DTC U1A00:87===)

as far as if it's been replaced.... You would have to look at your as-built to see if it came with something that the ACM now has.... not sure how to tell otherwise...

I am happy to report it's been over 2 weeks without the system acting up.  I think it was a loose wire or connector.

Back on 1/18 I removed both the ACM and the APIM from the car to inspect and photograph the part numbers and connectors.  After reinstalling, the system worked.  This was no surprise as they both went through a power cycle.  What was odd is it's never acted up since.  Before removing and reinstalling the parts, the system was locking up in less than 24 hour intervals.

I don't want to jinx myself, but I think it's fixed!

I think this is a little reminder to check the easy stuff before replacing good parts.

Thanks everyone for your help
