jrohrer
I have a 2016 Ford Edge with sync 3 v 1. I'm seeing that there is an update to bring the system to sync 3 v 3. It says go to ford owner and download the file. When I go to ford owner it says no download available. I really want to update my sync 3 so that I can use carplay. Does anyone know how I can download the Sync 3 update?

When you say "I'm seeing that there is an update to bring the system to sync 3 v 3.", where are you seeing that? Is it a Ford website where you input your vehicle VIN and SYNC information, or just a random Internet forum? If you signed in and went to the SYNC Update page on the Ford Owner website and there is no update available, then there is no update authorized for your vehicle at this time. You can see if someone here or elsewhere can provide you an update file. Just keep in mind it may do more harm than good to install it, if it is not an authorized update for your vehicle. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Multitask
Yea, I question that you are still on Sync 3 v1 for a 2016, I would think that it would be at 2.3 or 2.2 , unless it's a 4" screen There is also a possibility you are Sync 2, and 1.xx , that would make more sense. jrohrer
I just verified my sync version: Sync 3 version 1.0, build 15139. There are multiple postings showing that there are updates to Sync 3 to add carplay. I have never been able to get sync 3 to update over wireless. When I go to the ford website and run the check under my vin, it says no download available. I know that there is an update available, I just need to find where I can download it. I also see that I need to update the usb ports to add the apple carplay authentication chip. I have researched this and know where to get the part. I just need to software update piece. Multitask
One thing you could try is get a VIN from a matching vehicle and see if that gives you the 2.3 or 3.0 update car-part.com is a place to start I've added 2017 to 2019 vehicles to get the updates (or at least see what they are offering), oddly the 2017 will say 3.0 is avail, then the 2019 will say none is avail... unfortunatly, they used to say what the latest is, but they don't anymore
punch-card
The last time I had to reset mine from a prerelease version of Sync, I had to go all the way back to version 1, then upgrade to version 2, then finally upgrade to version 3 production. So I think you would need to find the upgrade to version 2 first, then go to version 3. I don't think (but I am not an authority) that you can skip a major release. If recall correctly, when I update to V3 (Lincoln site), it did say that you could go from V1 to V3.
Multitask
yea... when I got my 2018 FFH, I think it had 1.0 , updated to 3.0 easly ...but if you can, go to 2.3, then 3.0 ... either way as long as it works...
jrohrer
Thank you @Multitask! By using a different vin number I was able to download and install the latest sync 3 update. Interestingly, when I tried multiple 2016 Edge Titanium vins (I have a 2016 Titanium) I got the no download available message. When I tried a vin from a 2016 Edge SEL with navigation, the download worked. I was able to update directly from 1.0 to 3.0. Everything is working. Now the next step is to update the usb ports. Wish me luck!

xisruno
I am not showing any updates and was talking to the Sync chat people and they said my system via vin# needs a dealer installed update. Does this sound right? My last few Fords and updates I have been able to do myself.

You have provided no vehicle information such as model year, model etc. While it seems unusual that you would need a "Dealer only" SYNC update, it will be hard for us to contradict what SYNC chat told you. Is your vehicle still within the New Car Bumper to Bumper Warranty period? If yes, make an appointment to have this update installed. If the update is Dealer only and you are still within warranty, you should not be charged for it. Let us know how you make out and good luck. AndyT
I have just uploaded the maps (a massive 25GB) and SYNC. Then the car did it's own sync update in the night over the top of that. Now there are major problems: Twice the navigation screen has gone jet black with the top line showing as it should. Had to stop and restart the car. The car keeps dropping Bluetooth to my Samsung, which it used to do, then they fixed it. Now it drops connection again every few minutes. Pretty poor for such a large company. Very unimpressed and my experience with the customer support and garages is they don't care once you have the vehicle. I have had 3 Fords now, and this might be the last. I don't understand why they cannot engineer a system that works. That is just bad management and QA. I am so fed up with this lack of support. H Andy. Not sure if you are looking for assistance or just venting. If you are looking for assistance, I would recommend starting your own new thread, since this thread has too many simultaneous discussions going on. Also, include your vehicle model year, model, SYNC version etc. The more information, the better. My car is a 2018 Mustang GT w/nav I just did the map update without an issue. I mainly want the GPS speed issue with external apps showing about 10% more then your actual speed. Multitask
I'm not sure if 3.0 19205 fixed that, I seem to remember reading about that issue... only time will tell I guess. Edited October 1, 2019 by Multitask

NCEcoBoost
I had nothing but trouble with the Ford Owner site this week (it acts up every so often, per usual). The sign on process has completely changed and then it just sat there and did squat. I did finally manage to get in to access my latest Health Report, but it didn't seem happy. Why on earth is Ford screwing around with this site when folks need to update Sync? My unit doesn't have an update available, after all that. Don't answer because we already know it: the college interns running Sync aren't fully with it.
Multitask
I'm not a big fan of the new sign in... I'm sure they thought it would add security... but it just pissed off a lot of users... I used to just auto log in , now I have to manually log in...

But, I did manually add the user name and password in the passwords section of Google Chrome, so we'll see next time.

Hi Abraar. Have you registered on the site? You must be registered and signed in to access SYNC updates and many other features. Having said that, and if you are registered and signed in: Yes, I get the same message. The website keeps losing my sign-in each time I try to use the SYNC updates page. The Lincoln/Ford websites have been experiencing problems since ~Thanksgiving. All you can do is keep trying periodically until the sites are working properly. You can also call the Ford Customer Service number and register a complaint. Perhaps they will get the website up and running properly if enough people complain. Good luck. What happened to Ford IT sector? no stable website, very irritating and wanting to change car brand.
Multitask
While I understand your frustration on the web site, I find if funny you would consider going to another brand because of it.... Does your vehicle get you from point a to point b and back? Does it really matter if the web site works or not... On a side note, I think dealers should have to do what the web site does 'for free'.
