FORDSYNC
LG VX8350 died! Need new phone right away , but the phones on the Ford Sync List (last updated 01/23/08! ~ 2 years ago) no longer seem to be available. How can I find out which of the currently available Verizon phones will work properly with Sync ~ have this in both our cars 2009 Escape and 2009 Focus! Anyone with any info please help me as I really need to find a phone (preferably a flip phone) that will work without issues! THANKS IN ADVANCE. Uh, the list was updated January 11, 2010. http://www.nsapp.fordtechservice.dealerconnection.com/sync/usEN/sync_us_EN_iop_1_30.pdf You could also simply go to the Verizon store and tell the salesperson that you want to play with the phone a bit and see if it works with your Sync systems. That is a simple request that I'm sure they would honor.

For example, it says the Env Touch doesn't support phone book download, but with the latest firmware from LG, it does. The best thing to do is ask the cellular provider if you can try the phone with Sync. A decent provider location will gladly let you. I heard the Palm pre works well and i know my wife's Pixi works. As always texting BT not included in Verizon phones.... Enjoy!

I just got back from the Verizon store and I showed them the most updated list from Sync and they said they don't even sell those phones any more, that they are older phones. How often is that list updated? As for trying one out that is not on the list they won't do.

This is a reasonable request and is essential for compliance with the hands-free device laws that are now in effect in many states. Tell him it's a dealbreaker based on your safety concerns. There are many stores that sell Verizon phones, but not all are corporate stores. Try to find one that is a Verizon only corporate store. They will be more inclinded to let you test it. Explain you don't need to leave the property with the phone, but just take it to your car in the parking lot.
kdaros
My Droid at least paired and gives me full calling/contacts usage. I am not a big media user so I have not tested music or picture play/transfer yet.
themirthfulswami
The Palm Pre Plus will also work, and work VERY well. I have the Sprint version (the VZW is almost identical but with double the storage capacity and RAM). I'm able to use the voice dialing features no problem.. stereo bluetooth streaming works flawlessly and with high quality ...the music apps (including Pandora) respond to the steering wheel controls. Sprint Navigation also works perfectly. I can't speak for the Palm Pixi Plus though, but I'm assuming it would work as well. I have the Palm Touchstone magnetic induction charger mounted in the console of my 2010 Mustang so I just drop the phone on top of it and it charges away happily while SYNC does the rest. Amazing phone.. I urge anyone who's looking for a smartphone to take a look at it on any carrier (Sprint or VZ and ATT in the near future). Brjohnson
Or you can go to Best Buy they are well versed in the Sync system and what phones work well with it. This was based on the recommendation of my Ford dealer when I purchased my 2010 F150 last week.
dogbus1
I've been to 2 Best Buy stores in the Chicago area. At the first, none of the employees in the cell phone department had any idea what worked with the sync. When I mentiond that Ford said they had a partnership, they didn't have any clue about it. The second Best Buy I visited no one had clue what would work, but they did give me a little booklet that had the chart of phones from online. Many of those phones are no longer sold, even though the list is from January. Thought about a droid, but from what I've read here, I'm leaning toward Palm. Verizon doesn't know what will work. I thought about switching to ATT, because it would be cool to have my car read my emails, but they didn't know what would work either. I asked if I could try the phone in my car, and was told I'd have to sign up for 2 years of service and by a phone, which I could return if it doesn't work, but I'd have to pay a $50 restocking fee. That's a pretty high price for trial and error. So frustrating!

You're not going to find many new phones that will work with the blue-tooth texting. Also the Pre online community is GREAT for any kind of help you might need. Precentral.net In the end go with what form factor you like, you'll be happier with a phone you like that dosen't do a few things. Instead of a phone that does everything, that you hate to have with you. My 2cents KC

For people who are still looking for a verizon phone that works with the bluetooth texting, they've finally updated the best buy list, and there are 3 phones listed that are supposed to work from Verizon. LG's NV 250 and Accolade VX 5600 and Samsung's Reality.
Muzicman61
Well, their list is a bit off. First, it is the LG VN250 (not NV 250) and the LG Accolade VX5600. I'm curious why these phones support text messaging, when other LG phones with the same BT profiles do not. And too bad the LG phones that support text are so lame. toloko2
I can't get my Milestone to work. The Sync system is recognized, but when I start to enter the PIN number it throws an error message. It could be that I have the Android 2.1 OS and I live in Canada, where the Vehicle Health Report also does not appear to work.
