Latest map update is ignored? No error?

Recommended Posts

I am 2nd owner of a 2016 F150 Limited.  It was Sync3 v2.0 with maps NA 1 15 (it had never been updated).  Old maps should be an easily solvable problem, yes?

I purchased a 1-shot usb update today and put it on a 32GB USB thumb drive.  Reading the instructions I see the target must be >= Sync3 v3.0 in order to apply the map update.  I download this update and put it on an 8GB USB thumb drive.

I go to the truck, start up, insert the 8GB thumb (Sync3 update), it goes through the steps, signals complete, I remove thumb and shutdown, door open, door close, wait for all dash and running lights to timeout/power off.

I start up again, and the entire Sync3 experience is the same,  I go to Settings/About and it still says Sync3 v2.0 with maps NA 1 15.  Weird.

Oh well, I insert the 32GB thumb (Maps update) and patiently wait whilst the message in the top bar continues to say "Updating System Software..." for a looong time.  At no time was there ever a dialog box indicating "Software Update Detected:" with the descriptive detail and Yes/No option.  It just went on its way.  It signals complete, I remove thumb and shutdown, door open, door close, wait for all dash and running lights to timeout/power off.

Now I start up again, and the entire Sync3 experience is updated... that is the OS is Sync3 v3.0, and in fact visiting Settings/About says this too. However the maps are STILL NA 1 15.  Weird.

I insert the 32GB thumb again (Maps update) and the Sync console ignores it.  No messages, dialog boxes or anything.  It's nice that the Sync3 os update applied, but my maps are still NA 1 15 and I actually paid for those.

What do?

Note: neither USB thumb drive received a post-install xml file.

Unsure what you were doing , The OS update and the Maps update are seperate.

In your 2nd post, you don't say what the updates are at.  Ford/Lincolns are very picky about what drives they will work with.  Even if it's posted here that it took (or did not take) one that was listed here.  I've had it happen, and it is very odd.

I do see that you started out with an 8gig, then went to a 16 gig

8 might not have been enough space, 16 would definitely be large enough.

Just so you know that updating the Software can take a while (I would go for long drives....) 1-2 hours would be about right.  Map update depends on what it's updating.  Maybe the same amount of time.

The other thing to watch with map updates especially is that you'll lose the "Updating System Software" if you touch any of the screen controls while it's running even though it's not done.

The last NA2.22 Ford official update actually had a false "you can remove USB" message, the first part of the update only did a few files then the APIM would reboot and continue the update.

If you pulled the stick it never gave any message that the update was incomplete.
