Map download error

I recieved a message in my ford pass app that there was a map update availablefor my 2022 Ecosport. When trying to download the sync 3.4 map update I recieve the message "Your order cannot be completed at this time. Please contact customer service at (800) 392-3673 to report this error.(016) . 

After calling customer service I was advised to check for updates using sync in the vehicle, then waiting 24hrs and retrying to download from ford's site. Same error occurs after doing this. . Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi g2thew and welcome to the Ford Sync Forum. My wild Internet guess? There is quite possibly a glitch in the SYNC 3 NAV map update website. It happens once in a while. Just try again over the next few days. If you have no luck, call the Ford Customer Relations line again.

 

One question: When you checked for updates using sync in the vehicle", was the SYNC system in your vehicle connected to a strong WiFi network signal? If not, connect it to a strong WiFi network signal and try again.

Thank you bbf2530. I have been trying the SYNC 3 NAV map update website for a few weeks with the same error each time. Also the wifi network that I connect my vehicle to is strong. The last time I spoke with Ford Customer Relations I was given a case # and that they were working on a solution. The main reason for my post here was to find out if anyone else had this same issue and if it was resolved.

Are you downloading to your computer first, then copying the files to a flash drive?

How Fast is your internet connection (speed Test it if you do not know)

what ite are you getting the file from?

I am not actually able to get to the point of downloading the update. I'm trying to get the update from Ford - Sync3 Map Update (syncnavigation.com) when i get to "place your order" for the update I get the followig error Your order cannot be completed at this time. Please contact customer service at (800) 392-3673 to report this error.(016)

Ok, fair enough.... what version of the Maps are you on now?

And is this a small increment (i.e. going from .001 to .002<or something like that>) or would you be going big, like going from 2.x to 3.x ?

The map version I have right now is N 220 . Not sure but I think the update is for N 222 . My sync versin is 3.4

Hi g2thew. Just to avoid confusion...Please double check your map version. If you are located in the US/Canada, it would be something like "NA 2 20" . Not "N220"  And the latest update is "NA 2 22", not "N 222".

 

Also, "SYNC 3.4" is only your SYNC version. The full SYNC version needs to include the SYNC version (i.e. SYNC 3.4) and the Build number, which will consists of 5 digits ("XXXXX"). So it would be something like "SYNC 3.4.XXXXX" (the X's being numbers).

Hi g2thew. Okay. The latest NAV map version is "NA 2 22". So you do have an available update for your NAV maps. And SYNC v3.4.2220 is an older version, so there should be an available SYNC update for your vehicle via the SYNC 3 update website.

 

If you keep trying the SYNC 3 and NAV map websites, getting error messages and are not able to download those updates, and Ford Customer Relations can not assist you, I would recommend scheduling a service appointment with your Ford Dealership.

 

I am sure others will jump in with more advice if they feel they can help.

Hello again bbf2530 . When I put my vin into the Ford update site it shows my sync is up to date but that there is a map update available. Not sure if things like type of vehicle ( mine is a 2022 Ecosport) or country (Canada) make a difference but it shows my sync is up to date, so no option to update it only the map.

HI g2thew. Yes, those factors can change the variables. However, the immediate actions you can take are pretty much the same. Either it is glitch in the Ford SYNC 3 NAV map update website which will be corrected soon (hopefully), or help from Ford Customer Relations, or a service appointment with your Ford Dealer.

NA 2 22 would be if it was North America 2022 (I forget what the 2 ment)(I'm sure someone will fill it in)

 

So you can wait for a reply or wait some time  to see if it gets better... 

going from 2 20 to 2 22 could only mean a street was added or POI updated, or a bug fix.... so in the long run if it's working just fine for your area, you can skip this one... 

3.4.xxxxxxx does not seem to matter for you at this time.

 

The odd thing is that it's giving you the error.... that 'could' be that it as made available , but it has too many bugs for them to allow it to get used....

 

I'm sure if someone here has downloaded what you need and it's working fine, they can tell you what the differences are (2020 to 2022)

Just wanted to post an update to my issue when trying to update my map ( Current map is NA 2 20). Ford Customer Relations recently called to advise me they are still working on my case and apparently others are getting the same error (016) when trying to place the map order. Yesterday I went back on the ford website to try again and this time it showed an update for my sync system (from 3.4.22200 to 3.4.23188) which I was able to download and install with no problem. So then I went back on the website and it showed that my sync was now up to date but there was still a map update available. Unfortunately when trying to get the map update I once again receive the error (016). I was hoping the sync system update would allow me to download the map update but no luck.

I will post again with any further news.

Thanks to bbf2530 and Multitask for your help. Today I was able to Download the NA 2 22 map update without an error (016). Ford support resolved the issue that was causing me to get the error when attempting to download the complimentary download. Installing the map update in my vehicle via usb went without any problems. I have not checked yet to see how many map changes there are yet. My advice to anyone with update issues is to stay in touch with ford support . In my case it took a couple months but they kept working on my case file until they solved the problem for me.
