Constant nag to confirm automatic updtaes

Recommended Posts

I have a 2020 F150 Lariat with ~39,000 miles, and is ~ 2 1/2 years old and has the latest version of sync 3 (3.4.22251). About two weeks ago, a new behavior started. Every time I start the truck, I get a nag screen to confirm automatic updates. I press confirm, then a second screen comes up that I have to close. Nothing changed, the system has not been updated in months.

Any ideas what could cause this?

Hi martina417. Try turning off "Automatic Updates" in your SYNC settings. Or if it is already off, try turning it on.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Martin417 - Good luck with this... it only gets worse.  It starts with that, then other sync settings will be lost and it starts switching back and forth between default settings and your settings randomly. Like Bluewaterbum said, phones stop connecting and require you to forget and then setup all over again every time the vehicle is started. Eventually, the screen will just blank and you can't do anything except change the volume.

There are forums all over the place talking about this issue and Ford stating its an APIM issue. People have paid $1200+ in parts and labor to replace the unit, only for the issue to come back.

I called Ford Sync support and they are aware of an issue but have no ETA on a patch or update and just told me to go to the dealer with my case number, but they won't be able to do anything.

IMO - Best thing to do until they release a new update to fix this is to master reset the head unit. This will buy you a month or so per reset. Don't waste your time with Ford support or the dealer, they just take your time and money.

3.4.23188 is available from Ford. This update should resolve issues with 3.4.22251.

Thanks guys,  problem is the same, no change with  turning the auto update on and / or off. No problem with phone connection. Not a big enough pain to do a master reset yet. Will hope for an update to fix it. strange that it just started out of the blue, no update or change to the truck.

OK, I updated to the new build, and it appears to have solved the issue. It will take some more drives to be sure, but so far, no nags.

The weird thing is that I tried to do the update over wi-fi, and the system said no updates available. I had to manually download the update and do it with a thumb drive.

Anyway, thanks again for the help.

Martin
