Sync 3.4 Problem 2019 Ford F150

Recommended Posts

I found this site trying to research my "update"problems. Before I take my truck to the Ford dealer, I will throw out what has occurred and what I have tried.

1. My system has been dropping apps, disconnecting apps and generally not working as they it did a few months ago. (Ford tech said that is what happens when the update has not been installed).

2. I went to the Ford website and searched for updates and found two...one for Maps, and one for the system software.

3. I followed the directions on the Ford website. I was not able to connect using the Wifi protocol, so I downloaded the files to a usb (ExFAT). Followed Ford directions, plug into my truck, and after about 20 minutes the dreaded "Error Code: VER_ERR08" showed on my screen. I went back and checked the Ford website, reformatted the usb, and dowloaded the files again. Back to the truck,  and the same error.

4. I called the Ford help number listed on the error screen and connected with a very helpful tech. She took me through several steps, including a key combination to reset the system, but in the end nothing worked. She did suggest that I try a "new"  32GB usb, and gave me a case number to call back if additional help is needed.

5. I searched YouTube and found a Ford tech who said a SYNC system reset will be needed to get the software to install if problems were persistent. Did that along with the very interesting directions of starting the car, turn off the car, open the door, install the drive....etc. Wow! Really Ford...kind of like the 60's game...stop at a light, open the doors, run around the car and get back in before the light turns green...LOL!

Well, even after the double secret key combination and the open/close door directions, still no solution.

So here I am, about to call Ford. I will be at their mercy $$$$$. I bought this truck 11 months ago and moved 5 hours away from the dealership I purchased it from, so returning is problematic.

6. Yes, I have the correct files "autoinstall.lst, DONTINDX.MSA,  and a SyncMyRude folder with 7 tar.gz files in side.

7. I have reformatted and installed files with a PC and a Mac.

Thanks for reading my lengthly description!.........Peace, Warnermonarch

You mentioned that you used both a Mac and Windows PC to create the USB drive.  Some users have had issues with using a Mac in properly setting up the USB, so just be sure you have it correct. I’m guessing it was correct since you got the same error for both of them.

Here’s what I would try based on what you have already done:

First, I would disconnect the battery for a short time (5-15 minutes) to let all the hardware power down and reset.  Reconnect the battery and let everything come back up and then try the update again.  Be sure to READ your owners manual about things to check when the 12v battery is changed or disconnected as you may need to reset some functions in the vehicle.

If that does not solve the problem, then I would try a Master Reset if you have not already done so.  This will wipe out all your personal settings (phones, Nav favorites, etc.) and reset the system to factory options using whatever version is currently installed.  Then try the update again.

If none of the above works, then a dealer visit may be necessary.  Many users have tried an alternative update process provided by Cyan Labs.  This is not a Ford supported procedure so it comes with some risk.  However, many have used it with no issue.  I have not used Cyan Labs myself.

Something to check...

When you formated the drive, on a mac make sure you are adding the MBR feature... I think Windows automatically does that...

The 2 files and one forder thing tells me you are doing that right...

When you want to the ford site, you go the one for your VIN ?  I ask because a 2019 might not have had 3.4 , so I'm making sure...
