Hardware upgraded to Sync 3.4 but not able to update

Recommended Posts

I have a 2016 F350 that had Sync 2.  I purchased a new Sync 3 unit for it 2 years ago and it has worked flawlessly.

However I’m not able to update as it seem that my VIN shows the truck as Sync 2.    I have software version 3.4 Build 21020_Product installed now.

Any suggestions on how to get to a later release and update maps would be appreciated.

Ford will not provide updates for you since this is not a supported upgrade from them. You may try the vendor from whom you purchased the equipment to see if they provide updates.

Another option is to go with Cyan Labs. (Again, not Ford supported though many many users have success with them.)

Hi wkerrscott and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. What alcohenusa stated. Your upgrade to SYNC 3.0/3.4 was obtained through a third party. Therefore, the Ford SYNC 3 system will not recognize your vehicle as being equipped with SYNC 3 at all.

You can check with the supplier of your SYNC 3 hardware (if possible). If not, you can try CyanLabs to obtain SYNC 3.4 updates and NAV maps, as alcohenusa also mentioned.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.
