SYNC 1 master reset?

Recommended Posts

Hi All, i had the battery disconnected for a few hours which has resulted in the following Sync 1 issues:
On the Media button menu,  BT audio is missing, only options are radio or CD.
"Sync initial." Is greyed out and can't be selected
Sync Settings and Sync Apps error is "sync connection error". No power/data via the two USB ports.
The phone button no longer responds.  How do i reset back to full operational settings?

Hi mj. With SYNC 3, there is a battery reset procedure which must be performed after the battery is disconnected, replaced etc. If not performed, certain vehicle functions will be disabled until the reset procedure is performed, or the car sits for a  minimum of 8 hours, completely untouched. It is outlined and explained in the Owners Manual.

And by "...sitting untouched for a minimum of 8 hours", that means completely untouched. So lock and leave it for at least 8 hours. Do not unlock it, enter it, start it etc. etc..

I realize you have the original SYNC version, not SYNC 3. However, there may be a similar reset procedure for your vehicle. Check your Owners Manual in the section outlining replacing the battery.

If that does not work, you can perform a SYNC Master Reset to see if that restores full function.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Thanks for reply. How do I perform the sync master reset you mention?

Hi mj. You would need to check your Owners Manual for the SYNC Master Reset procedure for your particular vehicle/SYNC version. And the battery reset procedure would also be in your Owners Manual, as mentioned.

If you do not have your hard copy, you can download the PDF version here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/parts-service/resources/owner-manuals/

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

OK what i did was remove the F67 fuse (7.5a) from the fuse box located behind the passenger side glove box then started the car and let it idle for 5mins, switched off, put fuse back in and SYNC was restored to full functionality. This was preformed on a 2015 Focus Zetec (UK).

Did a keyword search for all battery entries in manual and it mentions replacing battery with one of the same spec and how to recalibrate the electric windows but no mention of SYNC

Hi mj. The SYNC reset is an entirely separate procedure, which would be listed in the SYNC section of your Owners Manual, or a separate SYNC Operators Guide, if there is one for UK models. I do not have easy access to the UK manuals.

Either way, happy to hear you were able to resolve the problem. Good luck.

Unfortunately, there's no mention in manual in the SYNC section. Hopefully what i did will help others in same situation.

Hi mj. Happy to hear you were able to find a work around.

For informational purposes, the SYNC Master Reset procedure for the US/North America Focus is at the end of the SYNC Troubleshooting section of the Owners Manual. Perhaps it is the same procedure and listed in the same place for the UK Focus. Here is the procedure as listed (again, for the US/North America Focus):

"SYNC System Reset

The SYNC system in your vehicle has System Reset feature that can be performed if the function of a SYNC feature is lost. This reset is intended to restore functionality and will not erase any information previously stored in the system (Such as paired devices, phone book, call history, text messages, or user settings). To perform a System Reset, press and hold the Seek Up (>>) button while pressing and holding the Radio Power button. Release both buttons after 2-3 seconds. Please allow a few minutes for the reset to complete. After a few minutes has passed you can resume using the SYNC system."

Good luck.

I did try that but did not work for me

Hi mj. Just for the information of those who read this thread in the future: Where did you find the SYNC Master Reset procedure and when did you try it? 16 hours ago you asked "How do I perform the sync master reset you mention?". You were informed it was in the Owners Manual in the SYNC section. You said it was not there. So you were directed to look at the end Troubleshooting Chart. Now you said  "I did try that but did not work for me".

Since you did not mention trying a SYNC Master Reset until just now, when and where did you find? In your Owners Manual? When did you try it?

Knowing this information can help others in the future.I t will also help others to help you in the future if you provide all information right upfront.

Good luck.
