I didn't upgrade the radio when I bought the truck in August, frankly I did not know it would take seeking help in a forum to get a radio installed. I want to upgrade the radio to the 8". I have found and 8" screen and a APIM out of a 2019. I am told all I have to do is have the dealer program the 8" to my VIN. The dealer acts like they have heard of this. Most Dealers will not perform this type of modification to a vehicle which is still within the New Car Warranty Period or an ESP Plan that covers electronics. This is because as far as Ford is concerned, the Dealership is now on the hook for any issues the non-factory installation may cause with SYNC, the Audio system, and any/all other electronic or electrical issues that can even remotely be connected to the SYNC system. And that is a lot nowadays. Therefore, most Dealers will not accept the warranty/financial liability. Unless you can find a very liberal Dealership/Dealership Service Department, you will probably need to find an independent shop, friend, family member or acquaintance qualified and willing to do this. Also..keep in mind if you modify your vehicle like this, be prepared for the chance than any warranty claims you have with SYNC/Audio/Climate Controls/Navigation etc. etc. (anything even remotely connected to the SYNC system) can/will be denied by Ford. And it does not matter that the parts you are installing are made by Ford. They are not the correct parts for your vehicle as it rolled out of the factory. Not trying to tell you what to do with your own vehicle, only warning you of the financial ramifications, so you can make a fully informed decision. Let us know how you make out and good luck. Sorry if my explanation was unclear. It does not matter where you purchase the parts from. Most Ford Dealerships will not perform this type of modifications on a Ford vehicle that is still within the 3 year/36,000 mile New Car Warranty or a Ford ESP Plan that covers electronics. This is often the case for most auto manufacturer Dealerships. They will be happy to sell you the parts (in most cases), but they will not install and program them. The reason is because Ford does not allow and/or severely discourages Dealerships from performing any modifications while a vehicle is still within the New Car or other Ford backed warranty. Therefore, the Dealer will be on the hook for any warranty costs that Ford denies due to the modification. And most Dealership will not accept that type of financial liability. Ford warranties the car exactly as it rolled off the assembly line and was sold to you. They will not cover warranty claims for this type of modification. So you have a couple of options: First, call around to a lot of Ford Dealership to see if you can find one that does not care. You may get lucky and find one. Next, find an independent shop, friend, family member or acquaintance qualified and willing to do this. Hope this makes my previous explanation clearer. Good luck. Hatty Posted March 22, 2021 Author Report Share Posted March 22, 2021 Guess I am stuck with the ole 4" for the time being then. Its not a bad option, its just such a small little screen lol. I figured I would have an aftermarket radio installed and that would be it. Due to the dynamics of the vehicle, the sync 3, the wifi, etc. you cannot just add any ole radio. Most likely about 1000-1400, or more There are lots of ways to do it.... buy it ready to go and pay to have it put in , or buy the parts for less and pay to have it put in... However, keep in mind that since you would be changing the factory setup of your 2020 F-150, it may/will very likely lead to a denial of any future SYNC/Audio/electronic/electrical warranty claims you may have. If your New Car Warranty is not that important to you, then there is no problem in doing this. If you care about your New Car Warranty, wait until your warranty has expired. Good luck.
