I like the improvements, especially the cloud based connectivity.  Should be much easier to update.

I suspect there's going to be some hiding and watching on the part of potential Ford buyers.  I'd wonder just how much data is being stored and accessed every time the vehicle hits the road.  Do I need another $50 a month data plan just so my entertainment/navigation system will function?    Then again, I'm one of those (fading in numbers) who likes to have his music collection saved on a local system (phone, mp3 player, USB drive) rather than entrusting a carefully curated list involving thousands of songs (and their embedded data) to a remote server.

I embrace useful tech (Alexa provides me with news/entertainment and keeps track of everything from locks to lighting in literally every room) but relying on Internet access while on the road might be a stretch.  We'll see.

Ford still can't get Sync 3 to update over WI-FI and took over 4 MY to even figure out how to update the Navigation (Then used 1.5 years old data). Now they will change to Sync 4 so they can forget about Sync 3, no longer will support it just like the Sync's before got dropped when they came out with Sync 3. But now they can charge you a montly fee for a system that you already paid for when you purchased the vehical. Also to get the music streamed you will also have to pay a montly fee for that. Since a lot of people already pay for music to be streamed to thier phone why would you need or want to pay extra for it to be also streamed to the vehical?, just hook your phone up to the vehical and play the music that way.

I hope that Ford will still allow the playing of music and Apple Carplay or Android from the phone or USB in this new Sync 4.

We already have cloud based Navigation with AppleCarplay and Android which is up to date, Fords will be a year or more old judging on their prior Navigation records.

Also cloud based Navigation doesn't work when your in the mountains or away from cell towers like out in the country roads.

Nav is all based on who Ford gets it from.... which is HERE.  HERE is why they are 2-3 years behind on maps.  8)

You are right if they use cloud based maps like Google or Waze or Apple.... it will not work where there is no signal... which is why I like the built in in Sync 3 and AA Google for the rest of the time.

I personally dont' care about streaming, I don't use it...  I'm sure they will not get rid of iPods etc.... but really need to get rid of the CD based slot.

Ford revealed the '21 Mustang Mach-E last night and indicated that it will be the first to get Sync 4.  Not upgradeable from Sync3.  No thank you.  I don't intend to upgrade this car since the other one is overdue and we'll do that a year from now.

Interesting since Ford (in an earlier press release) said 'select' 2020 models would be getting Sync 4.
BTW it sounds from your comment like you might be confusing the Sync version with maps.
