Gadgetjq
This is a huge improvement over the original AA app. If you have an Android phone and Android Auto loaded you'll have to go to the app's 'Settings' and toggle the first item. In your Sync3 system turn on Android Auto. Plug your phone into the center console USB port and you'll be good to go! Note, the 'new' display only shows up on the vehicle screen. All AA compatible apps you have on your phone will show up as icons on the main screen. When an app is running it appears on a bar across the bottom of the screen. punch-card
asteele
Excellent!! Thanks for this... I have been waiting for this update, but didn't realise you could select it under settings. Thanks very much for sharing.
Multitask
Kewl... I just set it, I'll have to test it later, or tomorrow when I go to work... Is there a page or doc about this from them? Or did you figure it out? 8)

No docs that I'm aware of but I'd read the new version was being released about a month ago. I stumbled over that toggle a couple of days ago. Pure serendipity. Cheers! MKZMark
I play music from a 128GB USB stick in the console, and AA is pretty useless for this. The Google voice assistant can't identify it and there's no way to browse and search it like in Sync. Not sure if it's any better in this version. Hey Mark, First, if you're not sure if it's any better in this version give it a spin. That's the only way to find out. Second, if you have issues, tell AA support about them. Open the app, touch the hamburger icon in the upper left corner then scroll down to Help & feedback. Finally click on "Send feedback" and let the writers know what's bothering you. The only way to get an app to do what 'you' need it to do is (beyond re-writing the code yourself) letting the developers know what you want. Who knows, maybe version 4.6 will address the USB stick issue......if it 'isn't' any better in this version. Cheers!
asteele
You're not going to be able to get AndroidAuto to use features within Sync3, such as the radio or USB drive for media sadly. If you want to listen to something from the USB or to the radio, then you have to "exit" out of Android Auto, select what you want to listen to, and then click on the "Android Auto" button to get back to AA. I bought a 128gb SD card for my mobile phone, and copied my music USB onto my phone - and are able to get the some content now through Google Music and Android Auto... which is a workaround. punch-card
One thing I found out about the new interface which I really liked was, if while in Waze I say "Hey google call Sally Joe", the old version would always switch to the phone app, then when you were done with the call, you have to manually switch back to Waze. Now AA just makes the call and leaves you in Waze. One more plus!. Thanks for your find!

Can you hit the voice button and say to Google, "play x album from my device"? That's what I was trying to do and it does not work. Google wants you in their music store and not in your own collection.

In settings there's a place to provide feedback to Google for issues and suggested improvements. Maybe music voice control is in the works, maybe you'll need to tell them you want the feature. Multitask
From what I've dealt with before, I don't think they care ... this is why I have an ipod, can't control it with voice, but I don't care... ?
MKZMark
The last time I looked into it, people had been asking Google for the feature for a long time, to no avail. No biggie, I just run Waze on my phone attached to the left side air vent, and use Sync 3 which is great.
Multitask
I'll have a 2019 APIM in about 3 days, then on Sat I'll get it installed... I'll see if anything is better ... faster with AA Gmaps or Waze... and of course the Sync maps... I'm hoping for the 017 maps ... Can't wait to see the new interface of S3
mikearc095
I tried this setting and I do like the way the AA app is now displayed on my cars screen (2017 Ford Fusion). However when I tried using Google maps to get to a destination there was no voice guidance audio. Mute was off everything else was working normally. I exited the app turned off the try new display option and maps was back to normal. I sent and email to AA support and also looked around their AA forum but didn't see any posts about this. Hey Mike, I had something similar happen with Google Maps recently. The app kept turning the Media volume to zero. I'd turn it back up only to watch it slide back. Once I turned GM off the slider would stick wherever I set it. You might want to check and see if that's what's happening to you. BTW, I just switched over to Waze and it was all good. Cheers! Multitask
Small update, it seems that the 2019 unit I got is not a true 2019, came with 3.0.... grr and nothing I'm going seems to fix it...
