Sirius Radio

Recommended Posts

Just got a 2010 Fusion with free Sirus radio for 6 months. Curious to know what happens after 6 months if I do not renew. Does it just stop working?

If you're lucky, it continues to work. One of my co-workers got 6 months free with his truck purchase, and 2 years later, still has Sirius radio available to him. However, when my 6 months expired, it still tunes to the channel and displays a message to call for service. You'll also get phone calls and snail mail trying to convince you to resubscribe. :D

Wish I had seen this sooner. I just renewed for a year but got the cheapest package, "Mostly Music", for $9.99/month. Next year I'll see if it just continues. Thanks for the tip.

Mine just ran out on February 1st.....two days later it was turned off. Haven't re-activated it. I was planning on doing the lifetime subscription, but found that didn't include the TravelLink, which was extra. The Sirius TravelLink subscription won't allow a lifetime subscription and requires you have a subscription to the music service. I'm guessing Sirius doesn't have my telephone number because they haven't been bugging me.....although I have been receiving a lot of postal mailings.

I got a deal when I renewed my Sirius and TravelLink services together for 3 years for my Lincoln MKS. My wife's Volvo S40 also has Sirius (but not TravelLink), so we combined all of it onto one account which added to the savings. If you want to renew, just tell them what services you want and for how long and ask what packages and deals make sense.

Just curious what happens if you take out a 3 year subscription, but then trade your vehicle in next year. Does the subscription transfer over to the new vehicle?

Yes. Actually, that's what happened when I got my new Lincoln MKS. I had Sirius in my Lincoln LS. When I traded it in for the MKS, they applied whatever time I had left on the LS to the MKS. It was a little tricky because the MKS came with a free 6 month subscription already. So I got the free 6 months, plus whatever time I had transferred, then I paid for the remaining balance on the 3 years.

Satellite Radio is about all I listen to while driving, unless it's my USB drive. Sirius made my 40 minute morning commute in traffic bearable as I can listen to all the news and financial stations that I I'd be reading at the computer anyway. It's also great on long family trips through nowhere.

I didn't get the lifetime subscription until the second year, so I wasted a year of payments. I should have done it sooner. But I was worried about the Sirius going bankrupt. Then it was saved at the last minute and also merged with XM.

Now I figure whoever owns Sirius will keep it going for the marginal cost with all the paying customers out there.

Anyway, my point is that you should get the lifetime subscription as soon as you decide you want to keep the service. Over 10 years life of the car, it works out to maybe only $4/month.

And the lifetime subscription is transferable as well? I did not see anything on their website offering Lifetime. What's the cost?

From what i read it's up to them on "if you can transfer the life time sub." It's, 6 months ago, 75$ every time you changed to a "new" device/ car. And it can only be done 5 times (I think that's the number). Still a great deal...

anyone know if they are still selling life times for 299.00$?
