Ford owner website misbehaving?

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd have another go at Sync3 update today. (Last one failed repeatedly.) While trying to get to the software update section of "Support" on the owner website I found myself being rapidly cycled from login to login to login screens again and again. Happens with PC Win7/Chrome browser and Chromebook chrome browser. ANyone seen similar behavior on the site. Apart from this example I've always found the owner website to be of a poor design and organization. It's pretty, but haphazard and unorganized.

Thanks.

I tried it Saturday evening to download the software v3.0 for Sync3. Although it said I was successful, I didn't get the download. Called customer service today, but they were no help. I think the site is fritzed and it needs to be fixed. I tried again to download the software following the Cust. Serv. instructions and still got nothing. I'm using a laptop with Windows 10 op system and Mozilla Firefox as a broozer.

I was having problems with it last week trying to update my car his mileage. I also had the login screen repeating issue that was mentioned above.

Yesterday, I tried to download the Sync version three update, and it said that the system was having issues and to try again later. As of this morning, still no luck trying to work through the Sync update procedures using either Safari or Firefox.

Like Sync3 itself, Ford must use 14-15 year old interns to update the Owner site. Ford refuses to get it. Recently, Consumer Reports came down hard on Ford (again, after a few years), moving several highly regarded vehicles such as the Fusion and MKZ, off the recommended list. Haven't received the issue yet, but I bet tech played a significant role.

I tried downloading the v3.0 software this afternoon while the Owner website was behaving itself, and it appears to have been successful. I was able to download the 3.0 zip file (about 1.6 GB for my Lincoln), transfer it to a 32GB USB 2.0 (slowly.... ), open it using StuffIt Expander, move the extracted files into the right places on the USB, then finally get in the car, start it up, and do the update.

After plugging it the USB into the port, it took about 3-4 minutes before the actual update started. Once it started, the screen said at the top Updating System Software..... After about 15 minutes, it gave me the Complete splash screen. I noticed a few updated icons (Sound settings Sirius TravelLink, etc.). During the update, and while I was in my car babysitting it, I received an email from Lincoln telling me to report the Sync update installation, which I did. As of now, the owner site has not acknowledged the uploaded .xml file which is used to let Lincoln know that you updated. I'll give it a day and see if it updates. If not, I can re-upload the .xml file.

  • 2 months later...

I finally asked the Ford dealership I use to have a go at it. I asked them to do it on 12/19/18 when I had the 20,000 mile service done. Their response was there was no upgrade available! I objected strenuously! The service advisor asked me to print out some evidence from the Ford website I was using. I took that back on 01/03/19 after the holidays. It took them 3 tries, and all afternoon! They started about 1:00 pm, and I drove my 2016 Edge away at 5:05 PM. I'm totally disappointed with my experience. First with Ford's website. Second, with the dealership.

Consumer Reports just rated Ford dealer service as about "average"  Fiat Chrysler's was a tick above dreadful.  GM does better.

I managed to run a Vehicle Health Report successfully this morning, in advance of a dealer visit this month.  My Owner site worked fine, but I could not update the car mileage later in the day after the VHR ran.  It seemed locked.  Also, the site claims no updates to Sync3 are pending, so I guess V3.0 is as far as I'll be able to go ('17 Fusion).

I've actually been trying to register for a Ford owner account since November to update my sync since it's out of date on my 2018 F150. And causes the truck to show very old text messages as new messages randomly. Like this morning I received a "new" message from my wife from July 2017. It's really annoying.
