Sync 3 version 3.0 (What have you noticed?)

Recommended Posts

I don't remember seeing this on previous versions but then again I suffer from Craft Disease...

So when I got down to the 3rd or 4th warning of low gas at ~40KM (25 Miles) left to drive, the Nav display the icons for the gas station even though no icons (to be display) has been select.

thats something that was going on since 2009 ford nav systems

I fixed the annoying WiFi "screen" that was appearing on startup by turning WiFi on and NOT turning on auto updates; screen is gone. I also noticed last week that the clock was messed up; appears to have gone back to Standard Time. Interesting. Obviously, I fixed that too. I hope it sticks.

I noticed my clock lost an hour after the update to 3.0, too. I reset it manually, and it has stuck so far.

I noticed Siri Eyes Free no longer works. Im so disappointed with Carplay.

With carplay active, you should be able to just hit the voice button on the steering wheel and siri activates. Without carplay active, you hold the voice button to activate the connected iPhone's siri. What is not working for you?

Before, I could access Siri by holding down the button on the steering wheel. Now I can only access Siri if its plugged in and Carplay is active. If I disable CarPlay or delete it, then Siri doesnt work through the car at all.

Is that not how its supposed to work?

I have no problems with the iPhone plugged into USB, CarPlay disabled, and holding down the steering wheel's voice button. But note that you have to hold it down a loooong time - about 5 seconds - before Siri responds. Seems longer than it used to be.

Not sure what Im doing wrong, but In order to use Siri on the steering wheel, I have to delete the phone on CarPlay and repair the phone. I cant just disable it. Then it takes about 5 seconds to engage Siri from the steering wheel (it used to be about 2). If I re enable Carplay, the Siri button on the steering wheel wont work regardless of how long I hold it down unless I have the phone plugged in.

Some things that I dont like about Carplay is that its no longer possible to use the map and view your phone and radio data from the home screen. The map uses data, pinch to zoom doesnt work, theres no speed limit info and I dont recall being able to see the outside temperature on top of the display.

Carplay basically hijacks the entire system as opposed to just residing in the Carplay app.

I own a 2016 Expedition EL. After my 3.0 update I am experiencing a very annoying feature... each time I cycle the engine on, and off, my radio setting changes. For example, if I was listening to XM the radio would change to FM when I start the vehicle again. There have been a few instances where it would change to AM. Also, not 100% sure, but I think in the few occasions it did not change from XM after the next engine cycle was because I used remote start. Ill have to check the time I go out.

Anyone else experience this annoying issue? I contacted the Ford/ Sync customer representative about this and was told it was normal. I explained it never happened before the update. Then was told the switch back to FM was nothing to be concerned about. Now its changing to both FM and AM; whichever one it feels like, but more so the FM mode. So, their answer makes no sense to me.

These units have a mind of their own. My 2016 edge does this as did my 2009 edge. drives me nuts. you'd think that it would just power on with the same function it had when it was powered off.

one thing that helps, at least in my experience, is to turn off the radio before you shut off the engine. then turn it on after you start up the car again. works for me when i remember.

ben senise, thanks for the reply. Ill have to try turning the radio off the next time I cycle the engine. The thing that gets me is the fact that its never done it prior to the upgrade. Surely, they would have tested that type of scenario during the developmental stages of the upgrade, right? Does no one on that programming team drive a Ford? Oh well. Again, thanks.

We are getting consistent radio/audio on the next start, with rev 2.2 and rev 3.0. We don't use remote start often, but I do not remember it changing the radio settings. Most of the time, we are listening to music from a USB thumb drive. Occasionally AM radio. Rarely FM, never XM.

It has been consistent, until the Apim failed. A few weeks ago, our Apim started going south, and then it was random. After a few days, almost everything in the center console failed... audio, nav, and climate controls. Our dealer replaced the apim and all is working again. Took them a week to get a new apim to do the fix, and during that time, the center console was all over the place.

  • 2 weeks later...

My experience with sync 3 FW/3.0

1) AA broke.. had to wait for an updated AA version to get it to work

2) The time changed by 1hr.. I had to add an hour.. lasted until I turned off the car then i had to decrease by an hour... I have gone back and forth a few times. Now trying a few other thoughts to keep it from automatically update the time

3) I am an XM junkie... When I turn off the van with a XM channel active, it goes to FM radio when I turn the van back on.. It didn't do this on previous versions of Sync 3

4) the WiFI notice as mentioned above..

All of these are listed in this thread.. my guess is i can find a work around for everything except #3

The one thing that I hope got fixed in FW 3.0 is the wonky autolamp setup.. It works most of the time but about 20% of the time, the Sync 3 doesn't get the signal to go into night mode. I can turn the headlamp knob from auto -> On -> auto and it goes into night mode but this is a pain...

my experience is that if i turn off the radio before turning off the car, it will return to the same setting next time i start the car and then turn on the radio.
