Scott_FlexLtd
Having the backup camera with the Nav unit... I do not need/want the "warning tones" to sound when backing up. They are redundant and unnecessary. I know how to disable them from chiming while in reverse (using the RESET button on the dash to toggle the ON/OFF state)... but it only works for THAT INSTANCE... it's not persistent. The very next time I put the vehicle in reverse, it is enabled again. Is there a way to set it to "off" permanently (or until told otherwise)...? Thanks, in advance... - scott

Thanks, in advance... - scott I use the rear tone disable button frequently, especially when I have a bike rack on the car. You only need it press it once each time you start the car, not matter how many times you back up. I find the tone is NOT redundant. If you're looking at the rear view screen other than for a quick glance, then you're not seeing all the other cars, pedestrians, or kids about to go in harm's way behind your car but not yet in view. If you're properly looking around for other problems coming your way, you're not looking at the rear camera. So I would say it's the other way around. The camera is useless. I'd say just don't look at it, listen for the tone while looking all around, and your redundancy problem is solved. Personally, I think the rear view cameras are very dangerous and will soon be outlawed as worse than text messaging while driving. It'll just take a few dead kids and major crashes first. It's in the same menu where you tell it how long to leave the headlights on and stuff. It's a function of the car's computer, not sync. DaveM
I'm not sure those are warning sounds. I believe they are for the sensors built into the rear bumper and tell you if there is anything behind you. For example if you are backing up and come close to a wall they beep more often the closer you get. They are not like the reverse beepers you see on some big trucks/buses. My 5 year old son and I were in line at the grocery store last weekend. We were behind a rather "large" woman and her pager when off. My kid looked at me and said "look out dad, i think she's backing up". Kids say the darndest things! :D
chaimav
Try physically disconnecting the sensors.
Paul G
Try physically disconnecting the sensors. Like I said in my previous post, all you need to do is go into "setup" on your dashboard and turn the reverse parking aid off. IT IS NOT PART OF SYNC. Milan Premier
It'll just take a few dead kids and major crashes first. It was because several children died from cars that DIDN'T have backup cameras installed that made them a safety feature. Turn your screen off if you don't use the feature.... LarryQW
It was because several children died from cars that DIDN'T have backup cameras installed that made them a safety feature. Turn your screen off if you don't use the feature.... I was saying the rear screen is very dangerous if you only watch that screen and don't look around. The rear screen is maybe good for a brief glance to check behind you before starting out. But similarly, you can look behind the car before getting in. Backing out, you need to be looking around out the windows so you can see everything else that is happening - like a car coming from the side or a kid running to get behind your car, which your camera may not see until too late In contrast to the rear screen, the sensors will always work to your advantage to prevent accidents, rather than make them. They can audibly alert you to obstacles when you're not looking at the screen, which you shouldn't be while moving backwards. So again, I think it's far better and safer to disable the screen and keep the sensors working, rather than the other way around. And like you say - Yes, that's what I do.
