Brian.
I bought a 2013 Fusion at the end of February. I set up a flash drive with a much of music, spent a few frustrating days getting it to work right (once I found out about meta-data tags and how to set them). I would leave the flash drive in the USB port most of the time, taking it out only when I had new songs I wanted to put on it. For the last 5 months, it's worked great (barring occasional problems with voice commands). Last week, for some reason, it stopped recognizing the flash drive. If I used the voice command, "USB", it would say "No USB device connected" and send me to Line In. If I used the menu and selected USB, it would show "Initializing" for a few seconds and then show, "Device not supported." I plugged the flash drive into a computer and was able to access it, play music from it, etc. I moved everything to another flash drive and it works, but the original one still doesn't. Does anyone what can cause this to happen? Could leaving the drive in the USB port do it?
tloewenberg
I've had a 32gb flash drive in the lower USB since mid February 2014. I've removed it 3 or 4 times to revise content. MFT has never failed to recognize it and sync content (index and command generation). When you pulled the drive and plugged it back into your computer, did everything look okay? What size thumbdrive? If all else fails and the drive's still good. Reformat it and reload the music is about the only suggestion I have. You might also try another thumbdrive. Multitask
I know this is an old topic, but the USB stick should be USB 1 or 2, NOT 3 (back then 1 and 2 were out, but not 3 (afaik) Could be the APIM's fault, could be a bad connector, and then it could be it just doesn't like that drive.... try another drive. Even my 2018 doesn't see my ipod from time to time, I just pull it out and re seat it and it's fine.
