Silverknight
As you should know, Ford is planning a major Sync update for early this year. I spoke to the Sync guy at CES and found out the good and the bad: The good: New SD card from up to date maps from Navteq. The bad: Update will wipe all destinations. Just thought you should know. lmartin2
TELENAV is furnishing the maps for the new MFT. NavTeq did the maps for the older versions like Sync Gen1 v3.1. Not sure when Ford changed vendors. I think it was about the time the switch was made to SD. Navteq hasn't released a 200 dollar map in well over a year and a half. They report "it is up to Ford" to request the updates.. Lots of finger pointing.
rl48off
I have the new SD card update for my 2012 and was wondering if I can copy that onto another SD card to save as a backup What do you think has anyone done it. Ron

lmartin2
Just repeating what was put out by SYNC support. Do you have MFT (SD memory chip) or Gen 1?
SGilbert
Mine is Gen 1.
lmartin2
My understanding is all Gen 1 uses NAVTEQ. The newer Gen 2 with the SD card uses TeleNav. At least that is what Ford was saying a couple of months ago. It wouldn't be the first time the Ford second level Techs have given inaccurate information. Silverknight
It seems that while I have updated sucessfully, I have an interesting problem: In My Favorites, the only entry I have is My Home in the screen's default "By Date" screen (yes, I have re-enteresd and saved new favorites after updating). If I go to the alphabetical list, my favorite locations all show up. This also affects the center console Navigation when trying to find a My Favorites destination--only My Home shows up (so it appears that this is a default "By date" lookup. Anyone with the same issue? Rockthesal
frustrated2
Navigation system. When I program one of my favorites It will take me around my elbow to get to my *@). You cannot trust the way it routes. Before you ask yes I have tried all settings, fastest, shortest, Interstate. The destination is always correct but the route it tells me to follow is close to insane. I have tried all different settings for the same destination and none of them seem to have any effect. The route never changes. its always the same. It seems to be stuck on shortest. Yes my system and maps have been all updated. My $100.00 Garmen puts it to shame. I think on my next trip I will Velgro my Garmen to the Sinc Screen. I know maybe its time to trade my 1 year old Explorer. ANY IDEAS
rockchie
thats just how the nav interprets the route. they have different algorithms. i would try setting the trip on like mapquest and then sending the trip to sync or set waypoints in your trip in the vehicle that follow the route or around the route you want and that might make it follow a more reasonable path. sorry but this seems to be one of the only ways to do this it may seem. its a hassle but thats what it has come down to. i agree for what you pay it should work alot better than it does. and in the long run i hope ford chooses an alternative map dealer that gives more reliable maps
jross
2012 Focus - getting frequent Nav card faults when I try to use Nav or Travel link. I must pull the SD card out and push it back it to make it work.
rockchie
i would call your service department at the dealership and see if they can take a look at it or see if they have had this problem before.
