Got a call from the dealer with a little bit of good news. They pulled a new car off the lot and tried the upgrade today and finally got it to complete. This is the first upgrade that they have successfully done. Said it took 4 hours and everything appears to be working. They want to try a couple more of their vehicles to get the procedure down before they try mine. The dealer says that the process show go quicker now that they have the first one completed, don't fully understand that but will give them the benefit of a doubt. If the others go good they will do mine early next week. This is the first sign of progress I have seen and hope they are not blowing smoke up my rear.

Still semi patiently waiting (As If I Have A Choice)

FINALLY! An actual update! My dealer actually called me today and told me that my vehicle was READY! I went to pick it up - they told me they updated the software and the delay was Ford being able to provide the update to them...anyway, MFT/Sync has been updated, and my initial observations are positive.

My Iphone 4 synced right up without a problem, voice calls were made and received. -- I have not tested Pandora.

Climate Controls are fully operational.

Ambient light is off by one color.

Radio controls are fully operational.

Backup camera fully operational.

White nightlight screen is no more.

MFT/Sync seems much more responsive from when I dropped it of 17 days ago.

I will provide further updates as I continue to test.

Hang tight folks, it's getting better.

Did I mention how much I missed My Edge...the Fusion was nice, but The Edge is clearly a cut above.

Hi mine finally seems to have installed but the colors of the four corners are different now. The red is not as red, gold/yellow is off. Its not the screen as the colors in the middle of the screen are all good just the four colors (Red) for Entertainment, Blue for Climate, Green for Nav and Gold for phone. has anyone else noticed this with the upgrade? my thought is maybe they installed a Lincoln version theme versus a ford version? has anyone else noticed?

Well, I'm VERY happy to report that I went in today and in 45 minutes, the update / take 2 on version 2 was complete and almost everything is perfect :-)

Only things out of "synch" are:

Ambient Lighting - Two colors are swapped... not off by one as reported by others... I think they would find the same if they went through all the colors. Barely annoying... whatever...

"MyKey" feature - Missing completely... Anyone else looked for this? I don't have kids and wouldn't let them drive my new Edge even if I did, so I don't care about this one.

Good Response time, No reboots, Initial startup, BlueTooth connections (with the known Apple limits on my iPhone), Navigation, Sync Apps, Voice Commands.... All working as I would hope and MUCH better than day 1 for sure....

Lost my background picture and had to delete and add my phone back in... No biggie obviously.

To my dealer (Koons Ford in Baltimore) and "Alura" the Synch Goddess for putting up with Ford and their faltering , I thank you for a Christmas miracle!

The Bugs is out and about! ( http://androidforums...eaming-evo.html )

Picked-up my vehicle from my Ford Service Department today 17 December 2010.

Although I am continuing to evaluate I must say "What a Big Difference" and I must say "We Still Got Some Issues". After the GEN 2 Update I can certainly see a significant improvement.

The MyFord Touch is now more responsive to voice commands and a saw a slight improvement in the

touch screen.

Sirius/Travelink: I now have all the subscriptions for Sirius that my vehicle could not fully download since I purchased the vehicle. The Sirius Travelink now provides Weather, Sports Scores, Fuel Prices, Traffic and the Sat Radio.

SYNC Services : SYNC Services actually dialed the correct phone # this time, I was blown away with such items as travel, stocks, sports etc. Sync Services actually called United Airlines for me.

Although I think Ford should really clarify the difference between Sirius Travelink and their Sync Services.

I would like to see greater detail on how to set up a mobile Hot Spot using a mobile device and cell phone.

Within the MyFord Touch center stack screen, and then sub-menu (for photo's) I found the "LINCOLN" logo (default photo) that others have been speaking of instead of the previous "FORD" logo that was there before the GEN 2 update. I am not sure if I got a Lincoln upgrade for my Ford Edge Limited (Almost the Same & But, what if I don't like LINCOLNS? - Too much gaucky front grill for my taste).

Also I noticed within in the Vehicle Ambient Lighting colored orbs that the blue is green and green is blue when selecting lighting.

But I am still very much frustrated and very irritated that this Ford / Sony product ("Ohh! & You Too Microsoft - You started all this!") although paired to my Sony Experia X10 phone, still cannot play music via the Bluetooth media streaming (For "PANDORA", etc). The 2008 Ford Edge that I traded in for the 2011 Edge worked with absolutely no problems with this same phone. I don't undersatnd it! "Bluetooth needs more flexibility for all bluetooth functions and all Bluetooth devices". "BLUETOOTH IS BLUETOOTH"! http://www.bluetooth...es/default.aspx

"(Ahhh Ha Hem... La La La,,,) "All I want foe Christmas is my two front Bluetooths, My two front Bluetooths, My Two front Bluetooths (To Media Stream) (Sung 1x time )..........So I can wish ya Merry Christmas!!"

Despite this I am very pleased with the updates or upgrades, (I undersand there is a difference), that were made.

A Big "Thank You" & "Merry Christmas" (Sorry, But I don't do "Season's Greetings or Happy Holidays"-That's just me!) , to all the Ford Folks, Including Ford Customers, especially to the Engineers and Service Technicians that continue to spend many hours resolving these issues. Please continue to provide a more perfect MyFord Touch product experience.

As a customer my evaluation continues.........!

I have a new 2011 Lincoln MKX that I would like to take in for the SYNC update. After reading the entries on this forum, I am a litlle hesitant to take the car in. Do you all now think it is safe to attempt the update at the dealer, or should I wait a few months before going in? Right now the only problem I am aware of is losing connectivity to the cell phone pretty regularly. It is my wife's ride, so I don't know if anything else is going on yet. She did say the instument panel went out on her with some kind of message on it only for a second or two. She was driving and could not read what the message said. Everything on the panel now seems ok according to her. Any help you all can provide will be appreciated. I sure hope Ford can get this all staightend out soon. I wish they would also put together some kind of a letter informing us all of the problems and their planned fixes and implementation dates for these fixes.

Thanks

rdgallo, it sounds like more and more people are starting to report success with the upgrades at their dealers. If your problems are not easily resolved by a fuse pull (#29 on the Edge) every once in a while, it would be worth getting it scheduled. I plan to wait another few weeks.

I just picked up my 2011 Edge on Friday which already had Gen 2 installed by default. After reading all the issues on this forum for the last few months I am very impressed with sync and have no real issues with any of the features (though I haven't used everything extensively yet).

Responsiveness is a non-issue... it's no iPhone.. but completely usable. Radio, Nav, Sirus, phone sycning all working well for me. I am up in Canada so we don't have the sync services stuff ... so that's also a non-issue for me.

Start up time is near instant so far.. no reboots or anything like that noticed in 3 days of travel (knock on wood).

Overall ... loving it!

From my experience.. Gen2 is a definite fix to the issues I have read about.

Cheers

I hope so, my 2011 Limited has been at the dealer's since last Tuesday. Tomorrow will be one week out of service. I have a 2011 Limited loaner with factory installed v.2 and it works well. I'd like to just keep the loaner, and let them keep my Edge.

Finally (2nd attempt) got a successful update today. It took a total of 5 hours to get everything working correct.

The download to the system took less then 2 hours. System was booting and had all function except for Navigation and the sync information function. The tech spent the next 3 hours working with Ford to get the Nav and information working. He had to download and install some additional files by usb flash drive. Weather was in the 80's today and he was working about 25 feet from an outside waiting area so I got to watch from a good vantage point the whole show. I think this was the first system that he had actually taken all the way to completion. As I was getting ready to go on a ride with the Service Manager to see if all was working, we got a phone call from the tech that he had to do a "calibration" to finish the job. So we waited for him to show up and it took about 15 minutes to complete.

As far as I can tell everything is working correctly except for the Ambient Lighting problem (Blue & Green lights reversed). Response is quicker, and voice commands appear to respond better, screens are a little different, night light (8" screen) now goes off when exterior lights do. Really didn't a chance to test everything as I was driving home in Dallas rush hour traffic and that is not the best time to be checking things. Was able to sync my phone before I left the dealer without a problem. If I find any problems will report back but for now this does seem to a worthwhile upgrade.

Why is it that everyone's taking their 2011 Edge to the dealership for the GEN.2 install.........can't you just download it and update it yourself from the MySync website, or is there other issues Im no aware of?

Never mind I see where it states that the dealer must install the update.

From what I could gather from the Tech doing my upgrade they have to connect to Ford to verify what options go with your vehicle according to your VIN. This is more then a small update, it is a complete reload of the system, it is a 3GB file that they downloaded from Ford for the upgrade.

I got the worst of everything. I took my 2008 Ford Edge into the dealer and told them specifically NOT to update SYNC. Well, they tried to do it anyway, and it failed (idiots!). Since then I have been back 3 times, the third time leaving it there for 2 days. They finally called me back and said the SYNC module was bad (short for, we don't know how to install the software so we ordered a new module). They said it would be in the next day or day after at latest, just in time for my 24 hr. round trip to NY for Christmas. Well, they called me back again 2 days later and said it would not be here until next week.

I am so frustrated at them and Ford. I have only had this vehicle for 2 weeks and was so excited about having sync for this long trip. Now I feel like walking down to the dealership and giving them bricks for Christmas, via "through the window" delivery. If anyone thinks they want to upgrade sync, Do NOT do it. Wait until they fix all these issues, having a new feature or two is not worth the trouble you will find.

My 2011 was updated successfully after a week at the dealership. Service told me that after 20 unsuccessful download attempts, Ford instructed them on how to download to a USB stick, then do the update. It worked, and the system now performs flawlessly (at the moment). The Gen 2 update is a big improvement over Gen 1, in terms of speed, stability, bluetooth streaming, and usability.

They kept mine for 3 days the first time around. Then spent almost 2 weeks trying to get the download to work. When I took it in earlier this week it took them a total of 5 hours, 3 of which was getting the Navigation system and info system to work.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sync is not "in synch" with it's customers. If they don't have in-house expertise to handle this "non-automobile" issue, they should not totally rely on the provider. They absolutely, then, need in-house capability to monitor how the supplier "(Microsoft?") is taking care of Ford's customers. I am sure their guiding principle has not changed from "What's good for Microsoft, is good enough for Ford!".

Hire a competent software engineer to direct Microsoft as to what is that is "good enough" for Ford's customers.

If Ford didn't control their suppliers, it's customers will find another car manufacturer that does. Ask Henry!

Good thing on my side of the industry we just don't put in new software just because it there. (Peterbilt truck dealership). Our dash computer will make you put in new software if there is any. Other than that engine and transmission software you do not update unless told under warranty. Even not under warranty we don't put it in. I've seen putting in software fixes one issue then causes another issue.

Ford dealership or any other car dealership will put in new software especially under warranty. Why because it is easy money for them to get paid for doing it plus making profit on it. Downside can bit them in the rear causing them to loose money

Posted this on the Edge forum and thought I'd share it here too.

Here are my experiences so far. I bought my Edge the last week of Dec and had the Gen 2 update applied at the dealer on Friday. I dropped it off in the morning and they called me at about 2pm to say it was taking longer than expected because the tech was having trouble downloading the files and getting things to work. They then called at 5:30 to say it was finished. The tech put in over 7hrs (!!!) to do an update on one vehicle.

So far I haven't really noticed a big difference in the MFT's operation at all. My phone was able to connect via Bluetooth and it worked for about a day. BT audio and phone calls were great.... for a day (although, the phonebook still didn't work). Now it will no longer connect even if I delete it and add the phone again, just like before the update.

Also, the responsiveness of the MFT is about the same as it was before, sluggish. Push a button: sometimes it works right away, sometimes it waits a couple of seconds and then registers, and sometimes it doesn't do anything. Very annoying.

I checked syncmyride.com and it does show that a whole bunch of updates were applied while it was at the dealer, however I cannot get the status checker application to work. It installs to my USB drive and seems to work when I put it in the vehicle and "install" it, but when I try to report the results back to the website it gives me an error and says to try it again, which I have done about 5 times. :banghead:

Being in the IT industry, my personal opinion on this whole implementation from the SLOW and buggy MFT software, to the techs at the dealer either not knowing what to do or having problems with the process, to the crappy syncmyride.com website, to the lack of user feedback/support options, is just disbelief. I know early adopters of technology usually have to deal with some minor headaches, but this whole thing really seems broken from the ground up.

I really hope Microsoft and Ford are working on an update that will actually fix the problems because I will have a very difficult time paying almost $40k for a vehicle that doesn't work as advertised. In fact, that's what lemon laws are for and I'm glad my state has a good one if I need it.
