SYNC software version 2

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had the update to upgrade to version 2 of the SYNC software?

I was told on the website that only a dealership can do this upgrade. I took it to the dealership and they've now had the car for 6 days. At first, they told me the update "failed and wiped out the climate control" so they would take more time to get it done.

Then, they told me the update will take days longer because FORD didn't send them the proper "parts" in that they needed a cable and "an adaptor." But, FORD sent them only a cable and not the adaptor. And, so..... I'm without my brand new 2011 Ford Edge SEL for days because FORD cannot keep their dealers equipped with the parts and wherewithall to maintain the new electonics in the Ford SYNC panel.

So,..... since I'm putting up with this inconvenience, I was wondering if anyone else has had the V2 SYNC software upgrade and if they found it fixed any of the bugs the former versions have been showing.

Heard back from the dealer - doing the update killed my console. Picking up a rental. No telling when it will be corrected. Pissed at this point.

That's a bummer! Hope they get to the bottom of what's going wrong as it sounds like the upgrade is causing havoc.

Totally off topic... GolferChris68, I love your avatar pic. :P

Oh CRAP! Now I'm scared!

Last I heard from my dealership was they were having trouble downloading the update but were on the Ford Hot Line getting help.

Why the hell are they having so much trouble with this?

My fingers and toes are crossed for you. I haven't made an appointment yet and will likely wait a bit - partly because of the early reports of new issues here and partly due to not having the time to spare to get to the dealer. Strangely, I'm actually getting used to the quirks and slowness of MFT. ;-)

They were finally able to apply the update, but the rear parking camera no longer works, and the Sirius Sync traffic/nav system no longer works. Car still at dealership. How difficult is it to properly test this stuff???

That sucks. Well, at least you have heat now!

My backup camera, Nav, & Travel link worked. I sure hope the service mgr was right when he told me my system still works.

Who would have thought this would be such a big deal to fix. It was dialing the wrong number from the get go and now its taking out everything in its path when they try and fix it. I don't think the wrong number is the issue though because they gave me the other number it should dial and doing that manualy, you get the same result a recording. I think Ford owes us owners big time and put in a real GPS system instead of this Sync Service junk

I agree that Ford needs to acknowledge the major f*ck up but I already have a GPS

Come clean Ford! Admit it. You screwed this project up BIG TIME.

Fire your team and get some real pros to do it right.

I'll wait

2011-Ford-Edge3.jpg:doh: Have the same problem here in N. California.

My 2011 Ford Edge Limited w/ the Sony MyFord Touch has been at the dealership since Monday 6 December 2010. This is the second time trying to fix this problem. Total time over a week now since 1 November 2010 ...... The bluetooth which does not have the proper protocols has not paired completely with my Sony Experia X10 phone (Android). I understand that Mercedes and Chevrolet w/ OnStar have not had any of these problems with bluetooth pairing, but I'm not sure if they have media streaming issues which my vehicle has(?). I would think that these two Sony products would work seamlessly together. My 2008 Ford Edge w/ Sync had no problems with this phone. I understand that there are two or three bluetooth protocols (Maybe that is part of the problem).

The Sirius Sattelite Radio worked but Travelink only provided Traffic, not other subscription items promised such as Sport Scores, Weather, Fuel prices etc.... The Ford Sync Services has been dialing the wrong phone number.

:banghead: They have been attempting to download the latest update said to fix the current Sync problems. Unfortunately, the program sent via the internet to the Ford Dealership for upload has been freezing up and has left Engineers @ Ford and the technicians @ the dealership scratching their heads..... stuck between modules and can not go back to the previous software now.....

Called again tonight.... looks like my car will be in the shop another day.... Hopefully they got a fix by tomarrow!

I am sure that everyone wants this fixed I am sure....

I'm praying that Ford can get this fixed.:beerchug: Then we all can celebrate!

.......A beer sounds damn good anyway!.........

I'm scheduled to get this update after lunch today. Has anyone had a good experience with it ??

Has anyone had to pay their dealer a fee for the install/update? I assume we shouldn't have to pay anything, since this fixes some problems.

Good Luck!

I haven't seen where anyone has had a good experience with the update.

Ask your service tech if he has done this update before. Before I go back in to try it again, I'm waiting for the Service dpt to install the update on a car on the lot.

I do not think there will be a fee for this.

But...... If there is a fee to fix this obvious defective warranty and not sold as promised issue for an obvious defective system..... then Ford can just buy this car back from me now!

If this is the case then it will be time to call my lawyer and then it will be over for me ("a devoted, previous and repitive Ford owner") to ever purchasing another Ford again....:rip: . I certainly hope this is not the case.

Hopefully FORD Sync will not stand for "Fix Or Re-boot Daily"!

In my opinion, I think a lot of the latest issues with the update may be dealer/service dept. related. This is fairly high end tech for a vehicle to have, certainly nothing close to anything Ford has had before. Basic SYNC, is sophisticated, but the MyTouch is way beyond that. Ford is now taking mechanics and expecting them to be a computer tech. This is really an OS now. Any hiccups during the install will cook it. Firmware/OS updates/installs are simple when they go well, but are not really for a untrained individual. I've done 1000's if not 10,000's device updates / installs and any updates that can potentially brick a device, still scare the crap out of me when I'm running them.

Perhaps a fix for the update issues is just ensuring you pull 29 prior to running the install. If you don't, maybe hardware that had been initialized prior to the update may fail to get detected? or perhaps it was as simple as they didn't select NAV and Sirius when they installed it, because MS made it a command line switch instead of a GUI option??? No clue, but these are the things mechanics may not be able to figure out. The same way I can hear a noise and tell them I think my thing a ma do hicky is jiggly, but they can hear it and can name the part and the loose nut, without even looking ..or that it was all the rattling in my head.

This may even have been why it took so long for the update to come out. MS/Ford had to figure out the easiest way to get this installed utilizing equipment dealers already had available. Perhaps they completely revamped it and now MyTouch is running on top of the new MS Auto 7?? Anyone know anything about this?

I think I'll give it a few weeks for the dust to settle on the update and for the service department to get their teeth cut on a few units prior to bringing mine in and if they'll let me, I want to watch what they have to do.

Nobody can deny that Ford F'd this up bad, but I'm fairly sure they want this resolved worse then we do as its costing them big time $$$$$ for every day its not fixed!

Good points AXCL.

I would also like to watch the update. The dealership has a tech that is the Sync guy but I wonder what training he has had. Like you said, this Touch system is way more complicated that the old Sync systems

Seems like the process would be fairly simple. Heck it's installed over WiFi on the factory floor.

Well, I went in and they said I need the new update. But, Ford's servers were down this afternoon -- so they weren't able to download the update needed on my Edge. I'll try again another day.
