Sullyfamily
Hi y'all, I have two 2016 Ford Edges. One has the technology package and the other doesn't. The one without the technology package is lower mileage and in better shape. Can I switch the APIM and thus change the technology package from one to the other? Thanks in advance for the knowledge! NOTMY911
From the 2016 Edge Brochure: Technology Package includes voice-activated Navigation System with pinch-to-zoom capability, and integrated SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link® with 5-year trial subscription, BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert, Remote Start System, auto-dimming driver’s sideview mirror, and 110-volt power outlet (requires 201A) So if you get these, no it cannot be switch just by changing APIM unless you transfer all the physical parts as well... Sullyfamily
The only things the technology package has is remote start and voice navigation. Will the APIM swap switch the navigation?

Will the APIM swap switch the navigation? Hi Sullyfamily. Just as an FYI: Directly from the 2016 Edge Dealer Order Guide, the Technology Package (available on the SEL, Titanium and Sport) includes : - Voice-Activated Touchscreen Navigation System with Pinch-toZoom Capability, SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link - BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-traffic Alert - Remote Start System - Auto-dimming Driver’s Sideview Mirror - Power Converter 110V Outlet An APIM swap can give your other Edge a fully functioning NAV system, as long as it has all the proper hardware that a NAV equipped Edge should have. Keep in mind that if you have an extended service plan, switching the APIM may/will lead to denied warranty claims on the SYNC/Audio/Climate Control/Electronics/Electrical systems of the vehicle. Good luck. Edited August 14, 2020 by bbf2530

Multitask
You should have to know what hardware/wiring/buttons that is in the old one to move to the new one.... then know how to make the new car know it's there. Could be done if you want to take the time (I'm talking days not hours) and maybe even spend the money needed

Sometimes the parts/electronics are still in a vehicle, even when the vehicle does not have that particular option. It is just less expensive for the manufacturer to build them that way, instead of having different wiring harnesses etc. However, in this case, I do not know what remote start parts and electronics are in both of your 2016 Edges, and which parts/electronics are missing and would need to be removed from the donor Edge for the new Edge to make remote start operable. Sorry. My opinion? There would be some combination of parts/electronics/electrical that would need to be removed from the Technology Package Edge and switched over to the non-Tech Package Edge. Good luck. Edited August 15, 2020 by bbf2530
jackramsey
I updated my wife's 2016 Lincoln MKX to Navigation by purchasing a Navigation APIM that looks like came out of another vehicle (2019 Ford EcoSport). Really worked well and have updated manually, both the updates for sync, and the map updates. I did purchase from a ford tech that 100% knew what he was doing. flvpmods. Google him. I don't think it is "plug and play", I do think there is some programming involved, but not sure. Note: Taking the center console out of the Lincoln was not an insurmountable issue, but I have been a mechanic since the 70's. There is a fair amount of plastic to be REALLY careful with to get to the APIM.
