Software update "not applicable for you Ford"

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've managed to update my own Ford Focus's Sync3 to the latest version using USB key, and I'm now trying to do the same for my mum's Ford Fiesta (2019).

I've registered her car on my Ford account, but I'm getting the message that Sync updates are "Not applicable for your Ford" (see screenshot). Meanwhile her Sync unit is continually trying to update over WiFi and failing (I'd previously heard updates over WiFi weren't happening in the UK).

I'd like to give her a USB key to get it updated that way, but can't get the files from the Ford website. Any idea why there's no software available there? (It doesn't say she's up to date - it says it's not applicable.)

Is there a way I can contact Ford to get the files?

She's on 3.3 build 18201_PRODUCT.

Hi scoggy. Contact Ford Customer Relations or your Ford Dealer's Service Department. The number is in your Owners Manual. There may also be a number for assistance with Ford SYNC on the Ford owner website.

Just a question of two. Did your mom's Fiesta come equipped from the factory with SYNC, or did you retrofit it later? Also...did you click on the "Find out more about SYNC" link in the box you posted? If yes, what did it state? If not, try clicking on that link to see if there is any information which may help.

If anyone else has the UK Ford or SYNC customer assistance numbers handy, I'm sure they will post them for you.

Keep us updated and good luck.

If you upgraded it from Sync 2 to Sync 3, then owner.ford.com (or equivalent in the UK) will not work. (because it still sees Sync 2 as the default)

You will need to source a (wrecked) vehicle that has Sync 3 and use that VIN for the update. (use that VIN instead)

I also recommend USB and turn off the WiFi built in.

Thanks for the replies. The car came with Sync 3, so I don't know why it's not available on the owner site. However, I found that I could enter the VIN at the site below and get the update. Problem solved.

Hi Tom. That is the Ford UK Owner site and would be the correct site for your vehicles. What website were you trying to download from before?

Being she is on 3.3, means that she has a newer Sync 3 unit (what year?)

Also, are you logging on as her, or you?  (might make a difference)

But you are right that regardless, it should just say there is no update .  Double check the VIN you entered...

Out of left field, maybe there is no updates for her car at all.. I say that because maybe it's not a UK car, but from another country? (near by?)

Hi Multitask. Not sure if you noticed in his previous posts that there were updates for his mom's car and he was able to download the update for his mom's car on another page of the Ford UK website he linked to. When he stated, "However, I found that I could enter the VIN at the site below and get the update. Problem solved"

My wild Internet guess is he was simply on the wrong page of the Ford UK website for his mom's car.

So as he stated, problem solved.

Good luck. ?

Yes, the problem is solved now (thankfully). Now the only mystery is why I couldn't get the update through the owner account dashboard.

It's a 2019 Fiesta, and I copy/pasted the vin from the dashboard site to the other link, so I didn't mistype it somewhere. Both cars are registered on my account.

I wonder if it did originate from outside the UK (steering wheel is in the right place though!)

Or, maybe it's just one of those glitches. I may contact Ford to see if they can sort it out for the future.

Ok, glad you were able to sort it out...

Yes, the Ford sites can be glitchy at times... I've had it happen.

As far as registering the account, while I was adding VINs to my ford account for Sync 3 Updates, I just remember it freaking out on some.. so no blame there, just talking out loud.  ?
