TXHoss
Hi all. New guy here. Tried to search but did not find a definitive answer. I purchased my 2016 Ford Edge SEL last Thursday. I installed the USB HUB with Carplay enabled first. Then found my SYNC3 was 1.0. I did the update over Wifi to the latest build available through the Ford website under my VIN (Sync3 3.0 Build 19205). All updates seemed to work fine, and I even did a Master Reset afterwards. However, my issues now are the Voice Recognition does not work (says VOICE RECOGNITION NOT READY on the screen), the screen responses are slow when switching between items (like Audio or Climate to Navigation), and the Apple Carplay does not work. I have talked to Ford customer service multiple times with no help. They told me to go to a dealer. I called the dealer and he suggested trying to re-load the 3.0 update via USB. However, I cannot download the file anymore from Ford since it tells me I already have the latest. So I am looking for some ideas from the experts before I take it into the dealer. Appreciate the help.

First, if you still have the fresh downloaded SYNC ZipFile on your computer, you can load a fresh copy onto a reformatted USB drive, just as you did before. If you no longer have the SYNC download ZipFile on your computer, do you still have the USB drive with the SYNC update? If yes, you can use it again. Insert the USB into your computer and open it. Find and open the "SyncMyRide" folder. There should be ~7 files in that folder. Find the XML Document file containing your VIN and delete it. You can now use the USB to try and reinstall. In reality, it can probably still be used even with the XML document intact, but removing it makes it a completely fresh install. A hint that may help others in the future: Each time I have had a SYNC update, I have downloaded the update twice, so that I have a fresh copy, just in case. Let us know how you make out and good luck. Edited February 12, 2020 by bbf2530
TXHoss
Thanks. Just to clarify, I did not do the USB method before, so I have no file. I tried to get the file from the Ford site but it won't let me.

Your SYNC updated via WiFi, on its own, after you installed the new hardware? Calling a Service Department about something like this is not usually the best way to go. It is always better to speak to someone face to face. Therefore, it may be best to stop by your Dealerships Service Department and speak to their electronics tech. Not everyone takes the time to give the best answers over the phone. I am not defending that attitude, only pointing out that it is a reality. Your other option would be to try using another 2016 Edge VIN to download the USB update from the Ford website. However, that will be a hit or miss proposition with possible SYNC update ramifications to the real owner of that vehicle. Hopefully another member will jump in with better ideas. Keep us updated and good luck.
TXHoss
Thanks for the info. First step was installing USB Hub with Apple Carplay. When nothing changed, I realized I needed to check software (I thought the dealer had already updated). When I saw the version was 1.0, I read about doing updates over Wifi and went and enabled the Wifi on the Edge. Then it updated automatically. I think next step is the dealer like you suggested. The service manager was nice enough to tell me he would diagnose it as best he could within the day I drop it off. I have read about using other VINs like you mentioned, but don't want to mess anyone else up. If it ends up being an issue with the APIM, I would have to go to the dealer anyway. Appreciate the quick responses. I will reply back when it is resolved to give details.
Multitask
after updating the hardware (USB etc) and the software... it sounds more like your APIM is not working correctly... if they replace it under a warranty great... if not you can find a replacement from a wreck car-part.com does not need to be from an Edge (although best so no programing) I have a 2018 FFH, and my APIM is out of a 2019 Mustang (had to program it)
TXHoss
Multitask, you are correct. Just got back and they said the APIM was bad and I have to wait until next week to get the part installed. It is under warranty so only $100.
