ENZODAST
So I just bought a 16 navigator. I was under the impression sync 3 offered waze integration and Android auto, I have neither. Do I need to buy a 17 model year or newer vehicle to get this? Why wouldn't these be available with a system update? I keep my phone plugged in mostly in the car and can't find the waze app or Android auto app anywhere. Please help!

It is on my phone and my car is connected to home WiFi so I think it's updated. I'll check the version number tonight and reply back. It would be great if it's simply an upgrade I'm missing. I know waze is a new app. I also wish there were more sync 3 apps than the ones online. Only like 7 or 8 random ones look to be available currently. I have WebEx on my phone and that integrated no idea how that would even work.
ENZODAST
I have automatic updates on. I'm connected to WiFi. I can't get it to update.... Shows software version 1.0. build 15139
ben senise
from my experience and apparently that of many other ford owners with sync 3, the automatic update feature is not always reliable. i would find out what version is the latest available by going to the ford owner website owner.ford.com to see if there's an update for your car. if there is, you download it to a usb stick, usb v2 not v3, and update your car. the usb v2 is important. many people, myself included, could not get it to work on a newer stick. ENZODAST
Thanks Ben. I just did the update and am now on sync 3. Only issue I'm noticing is the navigation button doesn't work anymore. Maybe the website gave me the non navigation version somehow? ben senise
once sync copies the update from the usb stick to the car, it takes a while to actually install. i remember doing it and not seeing the updated version even after the display showed that it had completed. i had dinner and when i went back to the garage, it had updated. it isn't instant. have a look in the morning. it's not likely that you got the non-nav version if you entered your VIN on the website. do you see the android auto button and settings now? i have found this whole experience to be a bit weak on ford's part. we shouldn't have to jump through these hoops. it should "just work." Everything seems to work well now. One annoying thing when using AA is the radio doesn't mute. I've seen others complain about this also and they're just muting or lowering the radio volume which works but not ideal. After now only one commute using AA with waze I'm a big fan. big big fan. ben senise
yay! glad you got everything working. what do you mean by the radio not muting? not muting when the nav gives you verbal directions? if so, it should. i think there's a setting for that. in google maps, there's a setting for playing the nav instructions over bluetooth. sync should let that sound override the radio. i'm sure if you poke around in sync and/or android, you can fix that. punch-card
I have the same issue with the radio not muting, but I have found that if I use "Hey Google" (make sure radio volume is not too loud) then the radio will mute, if say you want to make a call.... Multitask
Mine is about 50/50 on if it mutes and when it does not, it's about 50/50 on if it actually hears me correctly.... but more so when I'm listening to someone talking rather than music. AA seems to have more bugs lately than it used to.... I hope Google sorts them out soon.
ENZODAST
So I don't think this will happen but if I replace my battery will technology revert back to sync 1? Recently did the update to sync 3 so I think it's now hard coded into the computer but not sure if a battery replaced does a factory reset on the computer system.
