benk016
I just took delivery of my 2019 Edge ST. I have not been able to get my phone, or any phone for that matter, connected to the sync3 system. I've done a master reset, and pulled the battery for 10 minutes to let all the devices power off. Both of those have let my phone connect partially one time, but will never connect again after that. I've tried with android and iphones with the same result. I have an appointment with my dealer Tuesday to take a look, but just curious if anyone has experienced anything similar in the mean time. Plugging in with USB and using android auto works fine, its just the bluetooth that doesn't work.
Muzicman61
The first step is to pair the phone. Does it pair successfully? If it does, then what are you trying to do when you discover it is not connected? Could use a few more details.
benk016
It does not pair. If I pull the battery, and then turn it all back on and try and pair, It will pair initially, But once you turn the car off and back on, it will never connect again after that. Typically when I come back to the car, I can go to phone, the only option is to pair a new device.

Yea, what phone, what version of Sync 3 etc... I know my Pixel 2 XL will prompt to get the contacts after I have re-paired it, about 1 to 2 minutes after I 'pair' it. So it could be your phone is getting a prompt to do something and you are missing it... Because it's new, I'd take it back and have the dealer look at it, could be something is not up to date, or defective...

All the phones give an error "Couldn't connect to Ford Edge" and then I get this error on the sync3 screen.
ben senise
that's bizarre. i would appear that there's a problem with sync since you've tried with four phones. sync does appear to be talking to your phone since it says "BenDroid" which i assume is the name of your phone. if i were in your shoes, i would check the version of sync and see if it's the latest available. i know you said you just picked up the car but sometimes by the time they are built, ship, and delivered, there may be a newer version available. barring the above, i'd be taking it back to the dealer. i wish i could help more. Multitask
I agree, that is odd, if it was just one phone, I'd ask if you were running beta version of Android. Being it's a new Ford, the dealer should be able to fix it.
benk016
Thanks Guys. There was an update available from ford that I applied hoping to help, but it didn't change anything. Today randomly I got in the car and it connected right up to the phone and was able to use it normally. But After shutting the car off and waiting a bit and trying again, back to not able to connect. Hopefully the dealer can fix it Tuesday.
Multitask
Sounds like a defective APIM .
ben senise
yeah, that sounds like an electrical/electronic problem. please let us know how it goes.
benk016
Well, Dropped the Edge off at the dealer Tuesday morning. They diagnosed faulty APIM like I suspected. APIM ordered. Every day my salesman lets me know it should be there the next day and ready to go. Finally today when it hadn't shown up I ask for an ETA. He said that he went and looked himself and the part is of course backordered. So I went and picked the car up and will just drive it until the replacement comes in. Its frustrating, but at least I have my car and hopefully it's on its way to being fixed.
Multitask
Good luck on that... the other Issue I've seen is after an update they loose the voice part... so it might be back ordered because there are a lot of failed APIMs to replace. 8)

benk016
Well got the APIM replaced, and a week of driving with the new module. Bluetooth paired up almost instantly when I first got it. And has connected immediately every time since. However, twice now, I've been in the car and it will start disconnecting and reconnecting over and over and over. I have noticed when it does it, it seems to be when I also have it plugged into USB for android Auto. But it keeps doing it until I shut the car off and back on. When its doing it, I can un-plug my phone and on the regular NAV screen, it shows the no GPS signal icon, but the map still moves as the car moves. Not sure whats going on there, but its only happened twice so far so I'm going to wait a bit longer before I complain about it.

I had a similar problem with my setup. the culprit was a bad USB cable. there are various articles around the web that list cables that are good and not good. i don't mean that the cable is broken. it seems that the technical specs of the cable aren't good enough. i bought one of the recommended cables on amazon and have never had the problem again. [edit to add] the problems i had were with a google pixel, then pixel 2 phone which both use the USB C connector. I think the cable issue is only for the C type connectors. also, i have an issue with pocket lint gathering in the socket of the phone and thus doesn't let the plug go all the way in which also makes for an unstable connection. a simple solution is to take something very fine and non-conductive to carefully extract any lint from the phone every few months. i shave a wooden toothpick down with a razor knife so that it's flat. Hmm, didn't think of that... but when I see it 'disconnecting' . I think I've seen it say Bluetooth has disconnected.... I'll look at my Pixel2 and see if there is junk in there... 8)

Ok, I've been useing the one that came with the phone... time to look for a better one I guess.... it doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it will do it 3-5 times... I also looked in the port, and I don't see any debris , so it's not that.

FordPass requires a smartphone, so the first and most logical explanation which comes to mind would be that your non-smartphone, Samsung SMB311V fliphone is not compatible with FordPass. Have you checked the list of FordPass compatible phones? Was your phone listed? You will be able to pair to SYNC via Bluetooth, but can not use FordPass with a non-smartphone. Good luck.
