CaptKirk4989
I have a 2017 Fusion with the big screen Sync 3. I usually set my Sync screen to full dim for night driving as I drive on roads without streetlights. Using the firmware that came on the car (not sure the version), it worked properly. I did that first big firmware update and it seems like that is when I started having problems with the brightness. Now, at night (or dusk) the screen starts up FULL BRIGHT (which is a safety issue) and hitting the brightness DOWN button does nothing to the Sync screen. I have to hit brightness UP then the screen will jump to full dim. Then I have to hit brightness down to dim the panel lights (they get brighter when the Sync screen went dimmer) and then it is driveable. If I shut off the car then restart it, the screen jumps back up to full bright. This is VERY annoying and I wonder what I am doing wrong. I've done the subsequent (recent) update and this problem persists. I did a "full factory reset" and the problem persists. What am I missing here?? Is there a "magic" setting I need to use?? CaptKirk4989
Additional info: if it is light out, the screen brightness is correct and if it gets dark, THEN the screen goes to dim like I have it set. If it is dark when the screen turns on , then the problem happens. Edited March 5, 2019 by CaptKirk4989
Multitask
It might be this... the dimmer has two settings that are saved. one when lights off, one with lights on. Set it to where you want, when the lights are off (switch off)(day time) and again when lights are on (switch on)(night time) Same with Auto if you have it. CaptKirk4989
i have set it to where I want it many, many times - every time I run the car when it is dark enough for the lights to be on. I leave my headlights on automatic. Are you saying to try setting the desired brightness with the headlight switch in the manual on position rather than with it on auto on to see if it "sticks" for auto mode?? Interesting idea... I will try it.
FordGuy
There should be an "AUTO" setting for the screen that darkens the screen at night automatically when the lights come on, if lights are set to auto. At least thats what works fine in my 2017 Ford Edge.
CaptKirk4989
It used to work fine but I think after the first Sync update, it started doing this. I do leave my headlights on Auto and the brightness on Auto Dim but it still starts up full bright if it is dark enough for the headlights to come on immediately. I've tried that various settings and all of them start up full bright. My car is currently on a trip with my wife so I cant verify this until early next week. But I really appreciate your help!! THANKS!!
CaptKirk4989
As I feared, the setting is set for auto dimming and it still turns on at night on full bright no matter how I try to set it.
Multitask
CHeck to see if there is a 'newer' update, if so, maybe there was a fix? <shrug> "Maybe" the dealer knows a fix
ben senise
i have the same problem in my 2016 Ti. I tap one of the dimming buttons to get the screen to adjust properly. i don't drive that much at night but when i do, it's on dark roads. i just live with it since the workaround is simple. i just wanted to let the OP know that they're not alone
Dogbert62
Same issue on my transit connect.... I switch the lights from AUTO to ON and then back to AUTO which puts the sync3 into night mode.. not the best work-around but fairly easy Dogbert

diesel97
Having the same issue and to add to this if you turn your light off at night while parked the screen will burn your eyes out. The display brightness does not adjust it at all it is at full bright. Any fix after all these months? reset sync mannnnny time and nothing has changed
Multitask
I believe there are 2 places for brightness... one is the one that affects the whole dash (next to the lights switch) , the other is in the settings of Sync.... have you worked with both? Ron Zemanek
same problem and more in a 2018 f150 truck as built was 2.2 no problems updated to 3.0 and all issues started default to fm on start up and screen brightness issue finally after 20 months a ford field service engineer admitted that the 3.0 software has a problem with certain hardware they tell me there is a update coming out in the last quarter of 2020 I asked if they could tell me if it would address the issues they will not commit to anything so that tells me its just like MFT there going to walk away from this issue
Multitask
Yea, Sync 3 3.0 is for older machines... the 2019's and after can have 3.3 and 3.4 and then eventually 4.0 will be out, so I would guess they will only concentrate on that just like Sync 1-2... we used to have Windows XP, but now forced to use Win10
CaptKirk4989
Still have the issue on the my 2017 Fusion, and now a 2018 Explorer does the same thing. Hoping for a fix in the Q4 2020 update.... Ford get your sh** together!!
Multitask
BEcause they are under warrenty... maybe check with the dealer for any issues with that? It is odd that it's both... maybe your expectations are too high? ?

Multitask
Yup, just like those with Sync and Sync 2 and Sync 3... stuff moves on.. Do you still use Windows 3.11 or Mac OS 9?
