Dext
I recently updated the software and maps for SYNC 3 and was happy that all was working ok, or so I thought. Now I've discovered that the voice commands no longer work for navigation. The Navigation works ok when using the touch screen and the voice commands still work for phone, USB. & DAB but if I use any voice commands for Navigation it just gives a beep as if I have used a wrong command. I want to try a master reset but not if it means it will revert back to the old software and maps. I know it gets rid of all stored info such as phone contacts and calls, radio presets, Navigation saved addresses etc but does anyone know if it will also take it back to the old software and maps or will it just reset my personal setting and leave software and maps intact ? Multitask
Master Reset only sets the settings back to default.. not back to an earlyer version. Make sure that the update you did was from the ford.com web site, anything else might not have come with the needed files for your car/apim
asteele
Did you install a full software update that was meant for America and not Europe? I did that, and also killed the verbal commands for navigation. The fix is to get the full software update for Europe, which shouldn't be too hard... as you need an update which will put back the UK voice commands. Check the Focus ST forum. They key to fixing this is to get a complete update... you can go back and install a later American version but you must then only install the main operating system update file and not update the voice command file as well. If you look at the update files you get, if you have multiple large sized files then these are updating multiple areas within the SYNC3, such as voice commands and gracenotes etc. When you get the voice commands working again, take care to only install the main update file so you don't overwrite the voice commands again. I hope this gives you enough background for you to trawl the various sync3 forums and learn enough to fix it! mustang6g.com is a great forum and has all the answers you need. Good luck!! Hi, thanks for the reply, I got the update from this site https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/resources-and-support/sync-bluetooth/update#/ As you can see it's a proper Ford UK site, you enter the VIN number of the vehicle and it tells you if your version of SYNC 3 needs an update and then gives you the correct file to download. Do you know of another site where I could access the correct file to include voice commands ?
asteele
The possible problem with the update you are getting from Ford, is that the update may not be updating the voice commands file - as Ford may have determined that you dont need to mess with that... but in your case you do, as you have overwritten the file that Ford thinks you have with an American version - which is not compatible with your UK maps. When you are entering your VIN into the Ford website, they are working out what updates you need based on their records... not with what your sync3 is running right now. If you can send me your email address, then I should be able to share the same install files that I needed to get mine working again. Jackiechan9091
After 3hrs on the phone with tech support, nothing worked!! They told me I had to take it in to ford and leave it. I found the fix myself. They admitted there is an issue with their software. Here’s the fix, first turn off your phone bt and do a master reset. Then connect your sync to WiFi, turn on auto update. Then do a check for updates. Your system will take another update. Turn your car off. The next time you start your car, voice recognition will work again.... you are welcome! Dre23
None of these solutions worked for me. If they knew voice files was corrupted long ago why are they still providing the same update today with same issues. Why can't they give customers a fix from a USB they could send out

If you provide more information about your vehicle and issues, perhaps someone can help. For example: - The model and model year of your vehicle. - The current SYNC version installed in your vehicle (the full version, not just "SYNC 3" or "SYNC 4"). - The type of issues you are having. - Have you checked the appropriate Ford SYNC update website to see if there are any available updates for your vehicle and installed them if available. - Etc. etc. Get back to us with more information and good luck.
