asteele
Hey, you and the rest of us are all waiting on Waze to release an update to their iPhone app - which was promised for April at some point... so that means today or soon! FordGuy
Waze is now working in my 2017 Ford Edge Sync3 v3.0 with Waze version 4.37 using my iPhone 7 connected to USB. I had to re-read the mobile apps in the Sync apps menu a few times to get it to work. Also found out that if my phone is connected to bluetooth and I connect my wife's by USB Waze will work from her phone. The thing is that while using Waze that's connected to her phone and inputting a destination on the car display there is a clicking sound for each input. If I switch her phone to bluetooth connection and use Waze by the USB then there is no clicking sound. I hope in future revision to either Ford or Waze that the buttons on the bottom of the car display when using Waze would scroll down like when using the Ford navigation, this allows the map display to be bigger. pato
I am still not able to make it work...sync 3.0 build 18025 and Waze 4.37 Any clue one how to make it work? Cheers
asteele
You need to go into Sync3 settings for CarPlay, and check that it is set to DISABLED for every known iPhone that Sync3 lists, not just the phone you are using. When I went into the 3 phones my Sync3 knew, they were already all set to CarPlay disabled anyway - but it appears the action of checking each one seemed to do the trick, and Waze is now working great! pato

FordGuy
Tried Waze last night on a drive home and it worked ok. I noticed that the display showing were your vehicle is located is shifted off center to the right. I thought this was because of transfering to the Ford screen but then when I got home and disconnected my phone I found out that Waze in landscape mode on the phone is off centered, hope Waze fixes this. See "Almun" third picture in above post, it shows the off center display.
FordGuy
Interesting thing on the off-center display. Yesterday I was driving with WAZE running for directions and it had the off-center display with the large black rectangle directions on the left side about centered. I pulled into a gas station and turned off the vehicle without disconnecting or changing the iPhone connection. When I restarted the vehicle WAZE started back up and resume its directions but the display was now centered and the black rectangle directions as smaller in height and at the top of the map display. The directions were readable and the display was exactly the way I would want it. The next time I turned off the vehicle and restarted the display was again off-centered but the black rectangle was still smaller in height but now it was down a little from the top of the map display. It seems that either Ford or WAZE have a few different display selections which would be fine if we could select the one we want and keep it that way. Anyone else experience this? edc1
If I use waze on sync 3. Does anyone know what GPS is used? The one of the car or the one on you iphone?
asteele
It will use the GPS in the phone. Sync3 is just being a basic display, your phone is doing 99% of the work!

Jwm22222
I have been experiences this. Went on a long trip and this is what I noticed. Waze starts with a large turn direction box on the left with a nice readable font on two lines. When a hazard warning comes up (police, pothole, etc), the direction box gets small (one line) with a font thats hard to read and the hazard shows up right below it. When the hazard box goes away, the turn direction box stays small. At least it does for me. I would assume it is supposed to go back to the larger size when the hazard box disappears. It makes navigation difficult when its small as you have to spend more time trying to read the directions.
punch-card
I wonder if this is the same type of issue that happen with the Android version, If I start waze before I plug into the USB, and then start Waze in AA, the display is very similar, everything is over sized. Is the iPhone version on the phone first, or started in Sync 3? Just a thought....

Is the iPhone version on the phone first, or started in Sync 3? Just a thought.... Waze is started on the iPhone first and then shows up on the Sync3 applink for selection. The display differences that I talked about were changes between Waze running on Sync3 and then turning off the vehicle and later turning it back on, during the off time the iPhone was left plugged into USB and nothing on the iPhone or Sync3 was touched. Waze came back on the Sync3 display and still contained the destination, just showed differences in the display. I guess Waze kept running on the iPhone even though the vehicle was turned off. The iPhone gets quite warm when using Waze on Sync3, does it get warm when using it on AA? Edited May 7, 2018 by FordGuy
punch-card
As for "Same Destination", I wonder it that is waze is "sleeping" in the background, I know that is the case on Android, unless you kill the task, it will pickup where you left off. As for getting warm, it does but not as much as when before when Waze was on the phone display (pre AA), but no surprise there, anytime the display is on for a long period of time the phone gets really hot. Between the CPU having to process data, and lighting the screen it, I would think (not sure) the lighting would do more heating... wheeler62
Hi, I have Sync3 v3.0, Waze version 4.37 (iPhone 6S Plus), and can not get Waze icon on the screen. I've tried all combinations (Waze on, plug in the cable/plug the cable then Waze on ...), still no Waze icon on the screen ...), the Mobile Apps on the car screen is grey (can not click on it) ... This is a Mondeo bought last year. Do you have somebody an idea, why?
jmassaro87
I also cannot get Waze to work. I have tried all combinations of plugging launching the app. 2017 Fusion Titanium Sync 3 v3.0. My "Mobile apps" icon is greyed when the phone is connected. iPhone 8 Plus. Any ideas?
asteele
Hi, yes - you have to go into every bluetooth user on Sync3 and DISABLE carplay. Even if it is already disabled for every device, view the setting in Sync3 to check - as that check in itself seems to be required. If you have a device known to Sync3 that is still enabled for use with Carplay, then the other devices will not see Waze through Applink. wheeler62
wheeler62
It's weird: Ford Mondeo, Sync 3 (latest 3.0 version), Waze latest version (4.39.1.8, downloaded this week), no other device connected (no other BT device in the list), only my iPhone 6S Plus. When I plug the cable (with Waze on), still can not see anything else then the standard Carplay screen (with the normal set of 8 icons) - and NO WAZE ICON! Can you somebody advise, what I do wrong? Thanx!
Jwm22222
Latest Version of Waze Applink seems to have some changes. Seems to be a bit more responsive for me. Only a 2-3 second lag between hitting touchscreen and having the command register. Quite a bit better (at least for me) than the previous version. There are also ADS like there are on the phone now... The driving path still seems to be to the right of the screen, but not always. It was in the center sometimes. Have not seen any other differences but haven't used much at this point.
wheeler62
Hi there, I've got it finally! It is necessary to disable the Carplay, and then it will run.
dbeskan
Just updated my 2017 Focus to version 3 of sync 3. Updated waze app on iphone to 4.38.1, disabled all iphones from carplay on sync 3 and enables applinkand still cant get waze to display on the screen. Deleted all bluetooths attached to carplay. It wants to display but screen on iphone immediately comes up with a SDL lock screen and maybe thats interfering with transferring. Please see screenshots that i just snapped. Also, redid bluetooth afterwards and tried again. Back to Apple maps or waze via audio only thru carplay if this doent get remedied successfully.
