segald
Hi...I was able to upload the Sync 3 2.2 upgrade to my 2016 Edge and it was successful (so it says). When I went to use the Navigation, I noticed that there were no voice instructions and there was a voice button on the screen with an 'check' through it...when I clicked on it, it did change color but the 'check' did not go away and there was no voice. Also, when I click the voice control button on the steering wheel, I get a message saying that Voice Recognition is Not Ready. I tried different things...reloading update, resetting to factory settings (it did not remove the update)...I chatted with Ford and was told to reset the radio (hold seek button and radio power button at same time)...nothing has worked. I did call the dealer and they said to bring it in (sounded like he never heard of this). I have an appointment for next month... Anyone familiar with this or have any ideas? Thanks! segald
asteele
Hi, I manually installed 2.2 over 2.0 and also found that by doing so I had broken the ability to issue voice commands for navigation. I then installed software version 3.0 over 2.2, and that didnt fix the issue either. I am assuming that I need something else installed as well to get the navigation commands to work again... installing the new sync software is only one component, as there are other aspects to the configuration as well - such as the local maps of course, but I also get the feeling there is a seperate "config" file which may need a tweak. I don't have the knowledge as to how to do that, so expect to see if the dealer is prepared to help me when next in for a service. Not sure if they will be impressed that I have installed newer software versions than Ford Australia have approved for use, but will find out in due course! If anyone else is interested, then the changes between 2.0 and 2.2 and 3.0 are all so very minor - I am told that Android Auto users will love the speed that 3.0 brings, but I dont use that myself. It's hard to be able to tell the difference between them all unless you are looking for something in particular. If you are expecting lots of new config settings to play with and more features/customisation - then you will be disappointed.

BlueBlaze
Same problem, only I didn't manually install the update. The day before leaving for a cross-country trip, my 2016 Edge informed me that it had automatically updated Sync3 using WiFi. I checked the version number and it was version 2.3, build 17109. We almost immediately noticed that we were no longer getting voice prompts from the GPS. And when we tried to use the voice recognition, we got the same error as the OP, "voice recognition not ready". Over a week's gone by and no change (I read somewhere that the "not ready" error might go away after a while). With all the dumb "safety" features that disable typed input while driving, the GPS is pretty useless without voice recognition. Especially when you're stuck behind a wreck on I-10, looking for a detour route! Hey, Ford -- did you know that when people take long trips that require a GPS, there's usually a passenger who could handle the typing? I tried the Sync chat line and their only suggestion was a "master reset", which is obviously not going to fix a software bug, and I would lose all my data -- including the GPS waypoint at my daughter's house 900 miles away that could only be located while sitting in her driveway because her street in a 10-year-old gated community in Jacksonville still does not appear on the map. And by the way, the update that broke my SYNC3 still did not update the map so that it can find my daughters street address in JAX -- or the freeway in Houston nearest to my house that opened a year before this car was built! The clock is ticking on my warranty. Should I take it in, even though I know they can't fix it, just to make sure I don't have to buy the upgrade when it's finally ready? I've read many posts on other discussion boards where people have had the same complaint with this upgrade. When can we expect a fix? asteele
That sucks! Its fair enough when I break something by not waiting for Ford to push out an update and tinker on my own, but it's something else when you do wait and it gets broken anyway! I think that the operating system update you received does not update the maps, the update helps with everything but the maps - such as improvements with support for Apple CarPlay (extra hardware module might still be needed in your vehicle) and support for Android Auto. My total guess at your problem is that the maps you currently have are too old and are not backward compatible with the new operating system update. It seems crazy that would be the case, but is my only guess. I think you should ask your dealer to re-update your Sync3 operating software AND install up-to-date maps. Sync3 software 3.0 is about to be released, and it is possible that your dealer even has this version available for their new vehicles, which they should be able to install for you - takes about 30 mins. I am running software 3.0 on my Australian vehicle and it works great - very happy with it. Not so happy with the slow updates from Ford and lack of release notes etc, but we do know they are working hard on continuing to develop this platform - so all good in the end I am sure . Let us know how you get on!
ShelbyGT350
version 2.3 build 17109 is buggy and people have been saying that it caused more lag after 2.2, 3.0 build 18025 fixes alot of bugs I heard...F150 people are raving about it.
