Sync 3 update

Recommended Posts

While waiting months for this update, finally decided to use Android Auto, stand alone, which you can now do. However, when I tried to use the app while connected to my 2016 Edge, there was no voice capability. So I tried using S Voice and OK Google--same result! These 2 functions worked great with my 2012 Edge with MyFordTouch. Called Ford today to find out the solution and was informed S Voice and OK Google WILL NOT work with the 2016s equipped with Sync 3!!! Majorily frustrated! So, there is no way to "converse" with your android phone with the current system. Sure hope the update, if we ever get it, corrects this! Boooo Ford!

Just curious. Is the update that you installed an "official" Ford update available on the my owner site or was it the "bootleg"? If it was the bootleg is there any way to revert back to a previous edition?

Thanks

Problem solved! As stated above, I was informed by Ford the capability to use my ok google in my 2016 Edge was not possible. Wrong! Although "Bluetooth audio" is not listed in sources on the touchscreen, if you just use the voice command, "Bluetooth audio", you will then be able to use your android phone to use ok google.

Was hoping for some advice on the update from those that have done it for nav equipped units. ...some folks refer to download packages that are two part. Others show only a one part file install in the USB. In other words when the zip file is unzipped it contains an upgrade folder. In the folder is a lst file and a folder named Syncmyride. That folder also contains 4 separate zip files.

My understanding is that the folder and the lst file are to be installed in the root directory of a USB stick to be used in the installation. But I'm curious as to how this sets up in a two part process.

Only wish ford would release the update so we didn't have to do this on our own....

Any information appreciated thanks.

HELP! Took my 2016 Edge with Sync 3 version 1.0 to the dealership today for an update. Service said one is not available, even though sales said there is. Ultimately, Service called back and said that there is not an update, but that there is an Apple Car Play kit, but that a part needs to be ordered. They placed the order and I'm waiting for it to arrive.

My question is whether this will also update for version 2.2 (or what ever the newest version is)? Any help is appreciated since it appears my dealership isn't really sure what is going on either and I want to ensure I get this right whenever its updated.

You can buy and install the USB hub. I did, ...but dealer advised that version update is not available. So you might have to do that yourself. I'm going to once I clarify if the nav version is one step and non nav is two step update. Any help on that appreciated. Unfortunate that ford doesn't have this yet for a dealer install. It's a bit risky to do yourself.

UPDATE - Dealership installed new USB hub. However, after the dealership installed the new USB hub, Apple CarPlay would not work. After they worked on it for over an hour with my phone, they finally discovered that the Sync version 2.0 or higher is required for Apple CarPlay and that the new version is not available for 2016 Edge. The dealership has no idea when it will be available (except for service a service advisory that says "2017) and has no idea when or if I will know it is available........unless Sync notifies me after the car does its automatic updates.

Frustrating day for me but hoping this gives others information when approaching their dealerships with the same issue.

You should be able to download the upgrade from the SyncMyRide website and do it yourself. I don't know why it's not available to the dealer but the upgrade itself should definitely be available via the website.

Could you report back on your experience with the SyncMyRide site? Specifically, is the update available for your 2016 vehicle. I have a 2016 Escape and this whole issue is well known. Ford promised availability of upgrade to AA/CP by end of 2016 for us but has failed to deliver. Many Escape owners have obtained a bootleg copy of the upgrade (2.0) for sync 3 and most are reporting successful installs. when I connect to the myowner site (used to be sync my ride) , I still get the message that the software I have is the latest and greatest. Ford has gone silent on this matter for Escape owners.

People who are waiting for the Sync 3 update for a 2016 model with version 1.0 should check current system version if your vehicle is connected to a WiFi network. I know of a 2016 F-150 that updated itself from version 1.0 to 2.0. I have also heard that the dealer can install version 2.2 on some 2016 vehicles. I know someone with a 2016 Escape with software version 1.0. I am going to see if the car updates it's software when connected to WiFi.

Hey all, new here and in the hunt for clues. I've spent the better part of the day, four attempts and half a tank of gas trying to get my 2016 F150 to take the update from the SyncMyRide website to work. Anyone have any clues as to what the secret is that makes it work? I've downloaded it twice in case it was corrupt somehow, three different USB drives all formated fully as instructed by the folks on the chat help line via the website and an hour and a half with each attempt....nothing happens, the screen says Updating System Software, but never appears to end. They told me on the chat line that in rare cases it may take up to an hour to install but most are around thirty minutes. That included doing a master reset and using the secret method I got from them to reset the unit (hold the power button and right seek button for five seconds) before trying the update. I'm bummed, I've been looking forward to this for a while now, as many have I'm sure. Any insight would be great! Thanks

Try the fordescape.org site for some additional experiences by owners. I got my "legal" USB update to finally work but had some difficulty. After a hard "reset" (lose all data) it did work and I am enjoying it. Others have reported difficulty with the USB update.

Did you download the correct version. There is one for nav and one for non nav units. The update is different for each one.

The owner.ford.com website now offers the Sync 2.2 upgrade for my 2016 C-Max Hybrid.

The site advises, "It's possible you have updated SYNC 3 using Wi-Fi within the past week" and provides instructions for checking. My car still has version 1.0, so I will buy a 32 GB USB stick to hold the download.

Has anyone information about Sync 3 updates (software and maps)? In Germany it was announced for October 30 by customer support. But nothing has happened so far. Even customer support does not know why there was no release yesterday.

Has there been an announcement in other countries with a date?
