Les Staley
I downloaded the sync 3 update to 2.2 from Lincolns website (I have a 2016 MKC). I put it on a USB drive as instructed. The install errors out after 10 minutes saying their is not enough space or does not work with this version. Waiting to find out what is wrong. I have a non nav 2016 MKC. tjeeper46
I saw the same problem updating my Edge using an old thumb drive. This problem has been reported in other forums, and the fix is to buy a new thumb drive. I did, and the install went perfectly. I bought a name brand thumb drive, to make sure it was a good one. BWLand
I have a 2016 C Max Energi. Has anyone performed the Sync 3 upgrade for the Energi using the update from the Lincoln website? I am wondering since this update is not specifically for the Energi if you lose apps that shows energy flow and allows you to set charging times. I hesitate to perform update until I know that this will not adversely affect the Energi software.
Les Staley
After I got the error the first time, I tried a brand new Samsung 64 gb thumb drive. It gave the same error as before. Maybe I'll try another download (third one)
tjeeper46
Just as likely, that Samsung thumb drive is the problem. I tried redownloading, reloading the thumb drive, etc. I got the same error until I happened to find a thumb drive that works. Thumb drive internal electronics vary from brand to brand. The thumb that worked for me was a new PNY 128GB USB2.0.
Les Staley
I can try another one later. Although I'd have to question one thumb drive verses another not working as long as their is enough space on them (since I've tried 2 and one was brand new). It is reading the drive. It's almost like the internal memory on the mkc is to full. If I do a master reset, does anyone know what version it would reinstall? Anyways, just frustrating and I do appreciate the help with different things to try.

The install errors out after 10 minutes saying their is not enough space or does not work with this version. Waiting to find out what is wrong. I have a non nav 2016 MKC. for one thing, error messages are not always accurate so don't put 100% confidence in them. i didn't have access to all of my household belongings for a while so i couldn't get to my windows desktop or any of the large capacity brand name usb thumb drives that i have. my wife had her macbook and i bought a 16GB no-name usb drive from a stationary store for five bucks. i tried that combo and it didn't work after repeated attempts so i just waited. the problem i had was that the system software update would begin but just never end. so i'm guessing that the sync system was seeing the drive and reading the .ini file but for some reason got hung up on the zipped files that have the upgrade. when i got my desktop unpacked and set up, i formated a sandisk 64GB drive and un-zipped the files onto that. installation of both packages worked right off the bat, taking about 15 minutes each, and i got a "upgrade was successful" type message. but when i looked at the info on my sync display, it still showed v1.0. i was bummed and it was dinner time so i gave it a break and went to eat. interestingly, when i went back out to the car about 90 minutes later, the info showed v2.2! i would guess that your thumb drive is good (samsung 64GB) have you formatted it? are you using mac os or windows? are you unzipping the files directly onto the usb stick? e.g. download the zipped file from your source onto your computer. launching your unzipping program and extracting the contents of the zipped file directly to your thumb drive. make sure that your thumb drive is empty before you begin this. some usb drives come with a bunch of freebie stuff on them and there could be another .ini file there to do something. The update process is a little different for non-nav based on what I have read over on another more active forum. A lot of good information over in this thread http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41251
tjeeper46
Sorry, I forgot to mention I also did a master reset before starting the update. I did that with my old thumb drive, and got the same error message. I did a master update before trying the new thumb drive, just in case. As mentioned above, there is a 2 step process for non-nav. My Edge has Nav, so I have no experience with how that goes.

I ran into the same problem when trying to update my Mustang. Then I found the Non-NAV update that is split into two separate updates: http://blog.namesbychris.com/SYNC3_NON_N...to_V22.zip It's very simple to do.. Follow the instructions in the READ ME file and it will work fine for the Non-NAV systems. Edited January 1, 2017 by wintrmte
wintrmte
For all the 2016 Mustang drivers out there thinking about doing this CarPlay upgrade themselves I can confirm two things. The NON NAV software installers worked flawlessly with no issues. (http://www.f150forum...35/#post5081711) I am now successfully upgraded to v2.2 from v1.1. Second, there are two USB modules out there. The OFFICIAL Ford USB module is part #HC3Z-19A387-B. As of right now it is on severe backorder and Ford is not even quoting an estimated shipping date. The UNOFFICIAL USB module part #GJ7Z-19A387-B which is for the Lincoln Navigator (I got mine at a local Ford dealership parts department) is almost identical to the official Ford part, the only difference is the edge of the USB ports light up in blue on the Ford, white on the Lincoln. I can confirm that even though the original 2016 Mustang Hub has one USB port and the part listed above has 2 USB ports the part is almost identical and fits like a glove. The one exception is, ironically, that there are TWO USB inputs feeding into the single USB port on the original part, where on the new part there is just ONE USB input for the two combined ports. I plugged in the USB with the GREY head into the Lincoln part and VOILA!!! CARPLAY!!! Part fits like a glove. Whole process took less than 10 minutes. Use a trim tool (think plastic flathead screwdriver) to gently pry the hub out (from the arm console between the seats). Unplug the three cables, take the new part, plug in the grey power cable and the grey USB cable and if you already have the Sync 3 2.2 upgrade installed you are all set. So far in 3 hours of driving I have had no issues. Only other recommendation I would make is to delete your phone from your sync system and re-add it like it was a new device. Best of luck everyone!! I'm curious -- with that Dual port HUB you mentioned, does your front USB connector still work?
chammer
Hey Sync 3 Friends Apple Carplay a complete success. Here is what I did and learned Update to sync 3 version 2.2 I had trouble loading it and luckily I had schedule service that day. The Lincoln dealership successfully downloaded it onto my infotainment system. The new version of sync is nice with a few visual changes. The navigation has a few nice updates too. I had to install a new USB module which I purchased from walt sweeney ford. It was easy to do so do not have the dealership rip you off. You should purchase a plastic tool kit from harbor freight to help in the removal process of old usb module. Once I was done. Plugged in the iPhone 6s with iOS 10.2 and carplay fired right up. All aspects of carplay work. I am still trying to figure out if I want carplay on all the time. When carplay is on the factory navigation system is shutoff. I know that the factory navigation is much better than the iOS map system. So I guess when I use navigation carplay will be inactive. Let me know if you have any questions. Most of the stuff I learned I got from the F-150 link a few pages back. That blog had 140 pages of good information about sync 3 update 2.2, usb module, and carplay

tjeeper46
Your Lincoln dealer loaded up rev 2.2, wow? From what I read on other forums, rev 2.2 is not available to dealerships yet. My dealership says it is not available. Also, what difference did you notice on the factory nav? I have not noticed much of any difference. I did observe that it still has the toll road bug, present on rev 1.0 and since. keith wells
Updated my 2016 Escape tonight with or no problems other than I don't have Sync voice commands anymore. Does this clear after a few cycles or is it something I need to fix? Thanks!
mkenny28
I'm curious -- with that Dual port HUB you mentioned, does your front USB connector still work? The Dual Port Hub will disable the front port. The Hub itself has no connector for the cable running back to the front port whereas the single port version has a plugin running back to the front port. Found a part number for a single port hub that might work and is not on eternal back order (I think). HU5Z-19A387-A

keith wells
Reloaded the update today and Sync is back. The second try took twice as long as the first, so maybe it skipped over some things on the initial try. Still haven't gotten a USB replacement, so no CarPlay for my phone as yet. The Sync voice seems to have changed the slightest bit.
Les Staley
I tried it again, no luck. This time since I ran out of USB drives I used a micro usb disk. Same error. I did a master reset and tried again with no luck. I'm a little nervous (not going to try) using the non official Ford update. I'll have to contact Lincoln and give them he'll! Hermans
I tried the update on my 2106 Edge. I used a new 4 gig, 3.0 usb. When I started the process there was a message at the top on the screen that said, Updating Sync. I ran it for 1 1/2 hours and it never completed the process. I then used a 4 gig, 2.0 usb and the same.
