Sync 3 update

Recommended Posts

Ford's technician system. It's where previously v1.1 was available. Of the VINs I checked all of the 2016 Lincolns with Sync 3 v1.0 have an available upgrade to v2.2.

This confirms that the update exists, is ready and should be rolling out for all Fords soon. No idea on the OTA update but at the very least you can take your Lincoln to the dealer right now and probably get the update.

Well I just called Ford about my 2016 Mustang which has Sync 3 v1.1 and his system says that is the latest available update for my vehicle. I really hope you are right though and they are just rolling out in stages the next few days.

If anyone with a 2016 Mustang, or 2016 Ford in general is successful in getting the v2.0 software installed please make note on the board here. It would be greatly appreciated.

There are several people getting it to work.

For all the 2016 Mustang drivers out there thinking about doing this CarPlay upgrade themselves I can confirm two things. The NON NAV software installers worked flawlessly with no issues. (http://www.f150forum...35/#post5081711) I am now successfully upgraded to v2.2 from v1.1. Second, there are two USB modules out there. The OFFICIAL Ford USB module is part #HC3Z-19A387-B. As of right now it is on severe backorder and Ford is not even quoting an estimated shipping date. The UNOFFICIAL USB module part #GJ7Z-19A387-B

which is for the Lincoln Navigator (I got mine at a local Ford dealership parts department) is almost identical to the official Ford part, the only difference is the edge of the USB ports light up in blue on the Ford, white on the Lincoln. I can confirm that even though the original 2016 Mustang Hub has one USB port and the part listed above has 2 USB ports the part is almost identical and fits like a glove. The one exception is, ironically, that there are TWO USB inputs feeding into the single USB port on the original part, where on the new part there is just ONE USB input for the two combined ports. I plugged in the USB with the GREY head into the Lincoln part and VOILA!!! CARPLAY!!! Part fits like a glove. Whole process took less than 10 minutes. Use a trim tool (think plastic flathead screwdriver) to gently pry the hub out (from the arm console between the seats). Unplug the three cables, take the new part, plug in the grey power cable and the grey USB cable and if you already have the Sync 3 2.2 upgrade installed you are all set. So far in 3 hours of driving I have had no issues. Only other recommendation I would make is to delete your phone from your sync system and re-add it like it was a new device. Best of luck everyone!!

How long did your installs take? I pulled mine out after 40 min. Non-nav.

Make sure you read the Readme file in the Zip file, it has all the steps in there with the approx time it will take for the first & second update files, also make sure you use the same thumb drive for each update like the Readme file says, I thought I was being smart by using two thumb drives, didn't work but after deleting the files for the first update from the first thumb drive and then adding the files for the second part of the update everything worked correctly.

Problem is, the part isn't in stock anywhere. I tried a few places, dealers, ebay etc etc. Doesn't seem like it will be in anytime soon either. So, Apple users have to wait a bit. If you're an Android user, it doesn't stop anything from working.

I just got part #HU5Z-19A387-A in from Tasca Parts. It is a Single Port USB Hub that others have had success with. I am just waiting on a new connector (WPT-1239) because I have a 2015 Mustang with Sync 3 retrofit.

Found the non-NAV link in the thread at this location:

Edit: Applied the non-NAV update per the link I posted (2 parts) and worked great. Had to do a master reset as some audio settings were off when plugging in to use Android auto.

Does anyone know if the new modules accept USB 3? The current one I have says USB 3.0 thumb drives use to much power and won't accept it. Do the new USB ports for the upgrade accept USB 3 sticks? If anyone can confirm, thanks.

I "believe the answer is no". You need USB 2/ Have no idea as to why.

I am using a USB 3 thumb drive in our Edge, Sync 3 w/ Nav, for music. It works. I also used this thumb drive for updating firmware, which worked as well. An older 4G thumb drive did not work for firmware. I have also tried a recently purchased USB 2 thumb drive, and it also worked for music. That one is now in my truck (Sync 2).

I did not change the USB module, since I do not own an iPhone and thus will not be trying to use Carplay. AA works, but not at the same time as our music USB source. I do not see us using AA until it runs via bluetooth.
