Jeremy Schmuland
Except that all 2017 models already ship with version 2.0 as do all 2016 F-150's manufactured in the last month or so. This isn't a software thing, this isn't a testing thing, the software is available and working. My guess is they don't have the hardware upgrades available to dealers yet and won't launch the software until they do. Meanwhile, I'm left with a vehicle that I've had for over a year that still doesn't do what they said it would when they sold it to me. March was the original ship date for Android Auto/ CarPlay and that release date had been slipping ever since. No more excuses, Ford needs to deliver this now. There is a difference in fresh flashing a nand image on a new, unconfigured car and OTA'ing an update package that unpacks, backs up settings, installs, coverts any databases and functions correctly afterwards. Yeah, not a testing thing at all, I'm glad you know what is exactly going on. Ford is sitting on this update to piss people like you off. It's one big troll. John Ian Briody
SO. Strong armed the Ford dealer I got my car from. They say they have the sync 3 2.0 update for the 2016 models. I clarify. THE Sync 3 2.0 update that enables CarPlay. I give them the current version of my Sync 3 system, and clarify, they say they can update me to Sync 3 2.0. Now I am taking this with a grain of salt. I dropped off my car this morning, will let you know what happens. Hopefully you'll get the chance to strong arm your dealership to. But wait till I confirm. UPDATE: BASTARDS!!! They tell me they have it a week ago. Get me psyched up. Have me schedule an appointment a week later. have me drive my vehicle in first thing in the morning. I got up 90 minutes early to get my car in on time, and what happens? THEY TELL ME ITS NOT AVAILABLE YET!!!!! FIVE HOURS AFTER I DROPPED IT OFF!!!!! The incompetence is mind boggling! What an absolute waste of time! MAN I'M PISSED! Edited September 8, 2016 by John Ian Briody
Hotdonna79
I am having hell! Brand new 2016 Expedition. Screen says "the device requires too much power, please unplug from USB". 1) nothing is plugged into USB. 2) USB doesn't work 3) error message takes up screen and blinks on and off all the time. Took it back next day, run around. Bring back next week. Left car all day. Did nothing had to hear from Ford and order part. Next day took car back and left it, they gave me a loaner. 2 days and the weekend goes by, they call and tell me they changed the USB but error message still shows up only blinking faster, needs a new module so they ordered it and guess what, they need loaner back because they sold it (yeah right). Brought my car to me (not fixed) took their loaner back. Two weeks go by and no word. Yesterday after me calling I get told that the module is on back order and no idea when it's coming in. My question is this, can I just demand another vehicle it hasn't been 30 days yet. What would you do?

I've seen nothing on the dealer side of things that even mentions the update. The dealers literally know nothing more than everyone else about it at this point. Maybe the notification about not flashing sync3 1.0/1.1 on 2016 vehicles that came with 2.0 from the factory confused them? Either way, you'll hear about it on here or somewhere else around the exact same time your dealer will learn about it, maybe even before. My question is this, can I just demand another vehicle it hasn't been 30 days yet. What would you do? I would do two things: First I would demand to speak to the GM of the dealership as nicely as patience will allow. Lay out the issues that you are having with Him or Her and ask what they will do to fix the situation. I doubt you will get a new vehicle but someone, somewhere has the part needed so perhaps they can make that happen. If you do not get the answer you would like, let them know that you are now going to contact Ford directly about the dealership and the service department. My dealership that I go to lives and dies by Ford surveys on how they are doing. Anything less than a perfect score and the service advisers and sales are in trouble. Perhaps the dealership you went to does not have the same strict guidelines but I imagine it will at least get the GM moving a little. Hotdonna79
Mkenny28 I took your advice and guess what, my part will be here on the 14th! I mentioned that I had not sent in my survey that I received from Ford yet in hopes that I would not have to send poor results. Got a call back before noon saying it would be here Wednesday and that my car would have too priority! Thanks for the advice!!! mkenny28

I spoke to their customer support who had a detailed conversation "supposedly" with one of their technicians. When they told me to make an appointment to come in I clarified "This is the Sync THREE 2.0 update which enables the CARPLAY feature for the 2016 MUSTANG" She then reiterated that to the tech and he said yes, the update was available. Then when I brought it in they were like...."Oops.....don't know where our tech got that info but it was wrong." Incompetence!

I notice the MyFord Touch updates usually came out in the middle of October over the last couple years, every year. I wonder if the Sync 2.0 update will be made available for 2016 units in the middle of October on the same time scale.
DanMc85
I installed a Sync 3 2.0 CarPlay / Android Auto USB Interface in my Fusion... it works well. http://www.2gfusions.net/showthread.php?tid=3881&pid=94199#pid94199 I can confirm, Apple CarPlay will need a new USB Interface. Android Auto will work with the existing one you already have. Universe

No, I have a 2014 Fusion that is outfitted with a 2017 Sync 3 2.0 APIM and Screen that I purchased. I also customized the programming on it to my liking...Hense I am using a ST boot screen, Lincoln main theme, etc... However, you need a new USB interface to enable CarPlay that has the apple authentication chip inside of it. I love it so far. I wish I had the CarPlay option. I could have gotten it but the guy I bought it from said they were a bit more expensive and that the USB hub was back ordered anyway. Couple questions. Did you do the programming of it yourself? If so how? IDS? Also did you get the new USB hub? How much and do you have a part number by chance? Yea the USB hubs (dual port one at least) is backordered until November already... The first time around I had a friend do the base programming, but then I changed it all lol... No IDS can't change code on the APIM's.

Do you guys know how I can find out the part number for the 2016 mustang? If its already backordered I'd love to put a request in now so my hardware is good to go when the update finally comes out. My dealership has been no help at all and their parts department seem clueless.

I would also like to order mine that when they come off back order I'll get on sooner. Thanks!

Islander
Didn't really tell us anymore than we already knew, 2016 is coming close to the end and if Sync 3 Ver 2.0 is going to happen in 2016 it had better soon happen or Ford is going to catch a lot of flack for saying the upgrade would happen in 2016. What I would like to know as example the 2017 Escape has Sync 3 Ver 2.0 and my 2016 hasn't yet of course, but is there that much difference in the hardware used in the 2017's that would require different version of 2.0 code to run in the 2016's ?? punch-card
I wonder if the reason they have not released firmware 2.x for 2016 models because not all existing Ford/Lincoln 2017 models have hit the show room floors? Such that they want all the 2017 models to have the new firmware first? I am not positive, but I think that the 2017 Edge and MKX haven't hit the show room floors yet, not sure if there are other models.... Just a thought....
