NCEcoBoost
The Ford Owner site informed me yesterday that there's an update available to Sync3. Called Version 2.3, dated 11/18/17. I downloaded it onto a flash drive and will update the system in the car next week as I'm about to go away for the weekend (and not in the Fusion). Hope it helps with the AppLink mess. I tried running a monthly vehicle health report on Sunday, following the on-line instructions, and got absolutely nowhere. Sat in the car for 10 mins with AppLink on, cell phone connected via USB, FordPass running on the phone, and absolutely nothing ever happened. Ford's Owner Satisfaction is about to take another big hit (like the MFT fiasco) if they don't fix this Sync3 situation! I hope 2.3 does something worthwhile... punch-card
One note on V3.0, by the school of hard knocks, the official V2.3 will not downgrade from V3.0. The update knows you have a newer version. Be yea advised Edited November 21, 2017 by punch-card RetirEd
ShelbyGT350
yep some people are having difficulty with non-nav versions downgrading on other forums..even if u have unofficial 3.0 just wait for the official, the build will wash over to the right one. cantaloop
Does anyone know which package in the update files is used for speech recognition? Especially voice commands for searching music? Voice commands are working fine for me with 3.0 build 17276 except things like Play album xxx. It doesnt recognize music names any more. Muzicman61
How many songs are on your device? If it worked at one time, did you add any more songs? You may have exceeded the limit on grammar objects.

cantaloop
I was used to say Play Witness (by Katy Perry) for example. Then it gave me the choice album or title and then played the right album or song. But now it wants me to choose a nav destination or it plays any music from USB. Only once Id removed the USB drive and reinserted it after malfunction and then it worked right. But this has never helped again since this time. I suppose the problem occured with build 17276 and updated voice pack EU. Is it the voice pack or build 17276 apps?
ShelbyGT350
Oh I see, lets wait for official 17276...I was at my local dealer and thats the same version they have in 2018s
Muzicman61
Try using Play ALBUM Witness or Play SONG Witness. Be specific.

cantaloop
I figured out that the USB drive seems to cause this problem. After plugging in my iPhone I can play music from it via voice commands. So voice recognition for music commands is fine. But the strange thing is that my USB drive worked fine with voice commands before the last update. Ive changed nothing else. Even reformatting my USB drive didnt help. Any idea? Aldridge Andy
Can you force Sync3 to re-index the USB drive as it does when it detects a new device? Another thought, could it be a USB flash drive speed issue?
cantaloop
Reformatting and reinserting didn't solve the problem. And as mentioned above it has been the same USB flash drive for 1 year now. It has always worked fine until the latest update to build 17276. No changes have been done to the USB flash drive. ShelbyGT350
well SYNC 3 is a different system, did u try formatting to exFAT?
cantaloop
It has been exFAT from the beginning. Formatted FAT32 with Lexar repair tool and will see later today.
NCEcoBoost
I'm SO glad you all keep updating about the 2.3 upgrade. After figuring out the exFAT vs. FAT32 issue, and successfully figuring out how to correctly unzip, MY biggest issue now is that the online instructions say that it takes at least 30 mins to perform the update and the car must not be turned off during the update. My commute is about 8 mins, so I'll have to dream up an excuse to take an unneeded trip somewhere to do the update. Maybe next week. Ridiculous; the OM says that updates over WiFi can be done in steps. The update continues where it left off if the car is turned off. Not for flash drive updates, I guess. As I said, ridiculous. Ford OM initially came out claiming updates can be done via WiFi but only the very first sync 3 update was able to update via WiFi, it took many days to download it in small bits, later ford said it was much faster for owners to just download onto usb and get it done in 20mins. the wifi updating was cumbersome because it didnt provide a progress bar or any indication as to whats downloading, people got pissed off and went to dealerships for updating.. cantaloop
USB is driving me crazy now. Tried another Lexar USB with only a few albums; voice commands working fine again. Taking my first Lexar: no voice commands available/working. But worked before updating to 3.0.

NCEcoBoost
I'm discovering very quickly that a HUGE problem with this site is that folks in Europe and Canada have issues not the same as, or relevant to, folks in the US! Guess the way to fix that would be to create different sections in the forums for folks, based on where they live...
NCEcoBoost
I also have to say what a wild ride this has been (as I brace myself for the soon-upcoming barrage of 90-day surveys from Ford, JDPower and Consumer Reports). ALL of my neighbors have purchased new vehicles in the last 3 years and ALL complain non-stop about the overdone infotainment systems. All of them just want good phone connectivity so they can mount their smartphones to the dash and talk hands-free and use navigation. Period. How many have read their Owners Manual? Not one. I've at least tried to better them; I HAVE read the OM several times. And I can now sympathize, coming out of a vehicle that just had Bluetooth. It appears that Ford TRIED to make Sync3 less distracting and more user-friendly than MFT, but I have to say, Sync3 is TOTALLY distracting and the bulk of its features are unwanted (regular Sync isn't much better). Who's creating all this junk that they're putting into vehicles? My guess is younger Millenials and GenZers trying to create a job for themselves. And because of all this unwanted junk, the industry has found the solution: autonomous vehicles so drivers can focus on the junk and not the roads. Sad, sad state of affairs. Blame to the smartphone, yet again.
