John Ian Briody
PLEASE. If anyone is successful in updating their Sync 3 via the wifi update, enabling the CarPlay feature, please post it here ASAP. Thanks RetirEd

Jehova Dobbs
Has anyone had an issue where the rear camera stays on and sync display never comes up (radio still playing in the background)? Other issues is screen goes black, buttons and icons disappear when touched, screen becomes totally unresponsive? My wife is the primary driver and has the primary cell and has never seen any issues when she drives alone. It only happens when I, and my secondary phone, are in the car. Happens occasionally when I am driving alone or driving/riding with my wife with her phone present. The common denominator is the secondary phone. Patgoon16
Yes it the secondary phone, I had the same problem.
ralph7up
Just saw a GSB when I googled Sync 3. It seemed to cover the black screen issue. You might search for it. Marksavga

TPM
For CarPlay a software update plus hardware upgrade will be needed ( 2016 Edge with Sync 3 ) From what I hear a USB module or upgrade is needed
John Ian Briody
Just had my 2016 Mustang upgraded fromSync 3 1.0 to Sync 3 1.1. This update was not available via wifi. Despite numerous attempts was not prompted to install. Had to go through dealership. Sync 3 1.1 DID NOT enable CarPlay. Word is still that it will be available through a later update. General opinion of dealerships I have spoken with is they are not aware of a mandatory USB hardware upgrade for 2016 models, but could not eliminate the need. Still general opinion is Carplay should be available via software update only "later this year".
Michael Kurzdorfer
Thanks for the update John. Is Sync 3 Update 1.1 what brings Android Auto/CarPlay (if you have the USB hardware upgrade)?
John Ian Briody
My understanding is that the 1.1 update IS NOT the CarPlay update. Although I have not gotten confirmation on whether a USB hardware update will be required. The dealership maintenance teams I have spoken to say they have heard nothing about a hardware update being required. They seem to be under the impression that it will only require a software update. When will that update be released? That is still a mystery. My concern is why, even through the dealerships own wifi, my Mustang did not acknowledge the 1.1 update. I only was able to get the 1.1 update by bringing my car in for service. Hopefully the 1.1 update addresses that issue and future updates will be available over wifi as advertised. Andrew Guadagnolo
Up Here in Canada, We get screwed in terms of Software. If the Americans' get the update at some point in August then I am sure Canadian's will see it in April of 2017.
John Ian Briody
Sadly Caedhros my conversation was not as successfully. See below: Please wait for a SYNC Agent to respond. Mary says: Hello John. My name is Mary how may I help you?John says: I am looking to get info on the next Sync 3 updateJohn says: I have a 2016 MustangJohn says: and one of the things advertised by Ford when I bought my vehicle is that my car would be able to use Carplay with the future Sync 3 updateJohn says: So I was hoping to get an estimated release dateMary says: Congratulations on your new Mustang! Currently we don't have an exact date, but we do know that it is set for later this year for release. John says: and confirmation that only a software update will be required and no hardware update will be required.John says: You honestly cannot offer a more narrow release date? Like this summer? "later this year" is rather vagueMary says: It is, and I regret that is all we know right now, John. We'll have more specifics for owners regarding the feature being added closer to the release date when it is provided to us. Keep an eye on your Owner.Ford.com account and Media.Ford.com for updates with more information. John says: Some have said your support team has said this AugustMary says: If I had a timeframe to provide you, I would. August is not a time we're aware of. John says: But you are Sync support. I know I am not the only one contacting you guys. Its a bit frustrating that for 3 months no further info has been given but your site is advertising Sync 3 Carplay non stopJohn says: There must be someone you can contact for more infoMary says: I can understand your frustration; we do get direct information, but with that information provided to us we only know that it'll be later this year. Typical call/chat centre BS. This is a HUGE issue for a lot of people. to use Android Auto/Car play hands free to communicate while driving is a huge selling point because most places now it is against the law to use your phone and drive. I commute 100KM per day and communicating hands free is big deal. I don't know anyone that just texts anymore, everyone uses hangouts or Whatsapp. Michael Kurzdorfer
Sean Garmo
It's complete BS that every 2016 GM truck has CarPlay support....
GreyFox
Yes, I am sure that Ford is sitting on the update, which is obviously fully baked and ready to go just to annoy customers. Maybe, just perhaps, it's not released because it's not ready yet you think? I mean, if they rushed it out and released it day 1 of summer, or even spring (which was the original time they told us last year), with even more bugs and glitches than it's likely going to have anyway, then you would all be here complaining about a buggy glitchy update. There's just no way to make people happy. I am sure they want to get it out as quickly as is reasonable to do so. After all, there are still an awful lot of '16s on the lots, and this update would make THOSE vehicles easier to sell. Personally, SYNC 3 is the most solid reliable SYNC EVER, and as excited and hopeful as I am for CarPlay and Android Auto, I really DON'T want my currently AWESOME system to be screwed up by an update that breaks things... So, PLEASE Ford, take your time, get it right, and release it to us when it's rock solid and ready. ralph7up and RubyRouge

Multitask
As someone who has worked at a call center in the past (computer support), I can tell you that sometimes they are the last to know any official news. More often it's the end user (customers) that hear of things, call the call center for updates and they of corse have not been told about it. IF they have been told, sometimes they are also told not to ay anything until a specific date, but that is rare. Like with mine, I have a 2013 hybrid, that there has not been an update since it came out. Even though there is a newer version for other cars. I find that odd, but it is what it is. t0dbld
They are sitting on it to sell 2017 cars, the radios are identical in 2016-2916 mustang and it's in 2017 already. Ford needs to be lit up forbthisb

Both of my 2013s (FFH & MKZh) stated no updates available. I used the 3.8 update and it went flawlessly on both vehicles.
