Craven Posted June 1, 2016 Report Share Posted June 1, 2016 I have a 2016 Ford Fiesta SFE. Only Sync option available for this car from the factory was your basic Sync (or Sync 1?). The SE version of my car comes with the new Sync 3 and from what i understand, the only differance between the SE and SFE is the 1.0l ecoboost engine. So my question is, can I purchase the sync 3 system and install? Physically they're the same dimension with exception for the larger screen for the Sync 3. Do they share the same harness interface? Would the new stereo system require a VIN programming or would it be just a plug and play setup? Anyone have any advice here? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

jerkychew Posted June 22, 2016 Report Share Posted June 22, 2016 I bought a Sync 3 unit on eBay and installed it myself. The seller programmed the VIN for me. According to Ford support this voids all kinds of warranties and OTA updates won't work because your radio won't be linked to your VIN at Ford's support site. Since we haven't seen an update yet I don't know if side-loading is possible or if I have to figure out other ways to get updates installed. polska2180 Posted June 22, 2016 Report Share Posted June 22, 2016 (edited) Sorry, but i'm not following you, Sync 3 didn't come out till 2016 model year and not on all vehicles so a 2015 mustang would not have sync 3. You also mentioned "I got a 2015 Ford Mustang GT I did sync 2 to sync 3 upgrade" which is not a Ford update nor will it be and you would have to go aftermarket. There is a conversion for 2k which will keep things stock but again its a new hardware and your original sync 2 would not be upgradable to 3 by software means.
