RonNocket
I do believe the 4.4 update is FLAWED in several ways. If you have not upgraded, I highly suggest that you consider whether you wish to upgrade based on what I wrote below. Yes, I can now see the titles and artists when using Bluetooth Audio - but at a TERRIBLE price! Where my phone commands to call a person in my phonebook was at 99% or higher in terms of accuracy, now my command to call a person in my phonebook is at 0%! SYNC has not been able to get it right since the upgrade - NOT EVEN CLOSE! This after several deletions and downloads of my Phonebook. My Phonebook did NOT change - but Ford's Sync system certainly did. IT IS NOW TERRIBLE in terms of use with a phone where it once was HIGHLY ACCURATE! I am using SYNC with my iPhone 5 paired. My iPhone is up to the latest 8.3 update, but the problem occurred with 8.2 as well. In fact, the problem only appeared after updating SYNC to 4.4. Despite several attempts of doing a Master Reset and going back to Factory Defaults, the same version of the software still appears. You can easily tell when you say "Bluetooth Audio" because the voice now pronounces "Bluetooth Audio" as if she had a mouth full of marbles. She once was quite clear when pronouncing Bluetooth Audio. How can I go back to the previous version? I'll put up with just seeing Bluetooth Audio on the screen. Just give me back my ability to call flawlessly without ever taking my hands off the steering wheel. sped@centrum.cz
Did you record your voice profile? It's a procedure where the system asks you to pronounce certain letters and words to better understand the commands. Otherwise just use iPhone's Siri to handle all the work. Sync is unreliable piece of garbage made by Microsoft which you can never expect to work properly.
RonNocket
I agree with you on several points you made. I have begun to use Siri a lot more. It is FAR MORE RELIABLE than the new version of Sync. Secondly, this SYNC update is a COMPLETE PIECE OF GARBAGE!!! I was very happy with the prior version. It was very accurate and completely usable. Lastly, how do you record a voice profile? I am not prompted for it nor do I see anywhere to do so. Thank you.
sped@centrum.cz
To record the voice profile, press Menu button and then Feedback Settings. On the bottom you should see Voice Rec. User Profile and two buttons to program your voice. It takes about 5 minutes to record certain words etc. This is how you access it in SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation. m.ryanlove@gmail.com
Mr. Ford Fordford
I do believe the 4.4 update is FLAWED in several ways. If you have not upgraded, I highly suggest that you consider whether you wish to upgrade based on what I wrote below. I was having the exact same issues after the 4.4 update, though it had worked perfectly for the first 1-2 weeks. Today I decided to contact Ford & my local dealership to find a solution. Long story short, there is no roll-back or reinstall option, so I kept digging online. Here is the solution that worked for me: Hard Reset 1) Make sure the car is completely off 2) disconnect the negative lead from the car's battery 3) Wait 5-10 minutes 4) Reconnect the battery 5) Power up the car and reconnect your phone via Bluetooth This hard reset will likely clear all of the SYNC radio, time, date, and other settings. Once my car was on, I was able to quickly reconnect my phone and use the features as normal. Time will tell if I have to do this again. MY guess is that there is an issue with SYNC's memory management or that some data had become corrupted at some point. Before doing this, I voiced my concern with a Ford customer service agent that the update had caused several issues and the only resolution was a pricey visit to the dealership. I'm hoping that Ford will release more DIY tools with the next update or at least create instructions for the hard reset. I hope this works for you! RonNocket
I appreciate you taking the time and being very specific in your reply. It gave me hope. I did disconnect the negative terminal, turned on the headlights to ensure that there was no battery power - perfect, nothing. Power was off to the car. I left the battery disconnected for over an hour and a half as I cut grass and did other things. When I reconnected the battery, true to what you said, all the AM and FM presets were gone as was the clock reset to 12:00, etc.. I paired my iPhone via Bluetooth to Sync. I pressed the command button for SYNC and asked for "Bluetooth Audio." Eight seconds later, SYNC announced "Bluetooth Audio" as I had mentioned in my original post - sounded like she had marbles in her mouth. When I checked the version of SYNC via the radio, it reported the SYNC version as DE8T-14D544-AC - the same number as the VERY FLAWED update. Evidently, the update writes its nasty software to an EPRON or non-volatile RAM like your odometer - no amount of battery removal will delete this flawed version since even without a battery, the messed-up update will still remain. The only thing that will remove it is if it is overwritten.. I would love to go back to the previous version AR3T-14D544-AE which was virtually 100% flawless for use with verbal commands for phone usage. The flawed version (DE8T-14D544-AC) can be detected two easy ways: 1. When you ask for "Bluetooth Audio", expect a noticeable delay before it says "Bluetooth Audio." 2. When it says "Bluetooth Audio", it is very muddled. But the worst is its inability to detect names that you downloaded from your phonebook. That used to work 99+% of the time for me. Now it just seems to randomly pick a name that doesn't even sound like what I said. I even did a "Return to Factory Defaults" as well as a "Master Reset". Neither had any effect. So thanks for your idea, but it simply did not work at all for me. Mark Wilson
