ladybird4
I also work for a dealer and teach Sync, Myford Touch and The navigation system to customers. Been doing it for18 month and still learn new things every week. Hope you enjoy it as much as i do. There are plenty of people to help. Just ask your service department. Welcome! corderstl
I'm sure there are hundreds of threads on this... but since "you teach Sync" maybe you can quickly help me. I have a 2010 F150 with Sync and am/fm/cd player. No Sat radio. A while back the 'sync' stopped working. I can scroll through all the media formats, or I can hit the Aux button to try to get to sync, but it flashes sync for less than a second and goes back to AM. when hitting the voice button, there is no repsonse. I went to the sync download site to and discovered I probably needed updates, but when trying to do that, it is like the USB plug is dead. nothing happens. Is there a master reset somewhere? ladybird4
You have two choices. You either need to disconnect the battery for 15 minutes or you can find the fuse used for Sync. This is what the dealer will do if you take it in. Yes that seems stupid but it is Fords standard procedure to get the system going again. If that doesent then there is a hardware problem. rockchie
Yea thats exactly what we usually do and it 9 times out of 10 actualy fixes the problem for now. theres a chance it might return again and you can do the fuse pull(what i prefer to do since it keeps your settings) or the battery disconnect fix (which resets the settings most the time) and we also sometimes check to see if there is an availiable dealer upgrade for the vehicle which might help on fixing the problem when all else fails we then have one of the mechanics check it out and go through all the connections to make sure its working fine, and they might install a new SYNC interface in the vehicle. but most of the time it is just software problems that can be fixed from an update. do you not have an AUX button on the dash? and is your music already playing on the device when its connected to the auxilary cable? corderstl
Yes, I do have an AUX button. Hitting that shows "sync" for about 1/2 second (maybe less) and then reverts back to the other media format. Yes, I have tried it both with and without having music playing on the device when connecting it. Either way, it just doesn't recognized the sync system anymore. Thanks! rockchie
have you sent a vehicle health report and checked if there is a update available on your vehicle or not? and did you try the fuse pull? it can be a bit hard to find and to pull the fuses but if you look in the back of your owners manual under fuses and go to the pages and find SYNC, it might be the easy fix instead of going to the dealer. but i would reccommend the update if its available because that should make everything tip top shape. also some updates can only be done at the dealership, so if you happen to stop by your dealership make sure to go to the service department and ask if you need an update. i would avoid the battery disconnect option, it usually wipes alot of the settings. ladybird4
I agree battery pull is not a good idea as it sets all vehicle modules back to learning mode not just the sync module'
Badgerflorida
I can play music from my iphone 4 via bluetooth and USB but it won't recognize the phone as a device when changing the wallpaper. I have to use a memory card. I know it's picky, I'm just sayin. Any ideas? Thanks.
rockchie
I can play music from my iphone 4 via bluetooth and USB but it won't recognize the phone as a device when changing the wallpaper. I have to use a memory card. I know it's picky, I'm just sayin. Any ideas? Thanks. yea the system only recognizes usb drives and memory cards for the photos. it would be nice if it could check from the phone but it cant, and that would probably be just as picky as the text messaging function meaning that if it was possible it would only work on a handful of phones. ARH1956
The Sync system like so many Microsoft products is capable enough. As long as you become intimately familiar with the requirements associated with a "hard re-boot" you'll be fine. Because it will likely be required on a regular basis to return the system to fully operational status.
Curmudgeon10
I have a question for the instructors: why can't a customer demand a permanent fix to the Synch lock up or "Index is Full" problem under the Warranty? That is my plan. It seems the Consumer Protection organization in DC was set up precisely to handle a problem like this: known problem, manufacturer refuses to fix. One cannot be expected, on a brand new vehicle, to either perform maintenance or take the car to an authorized dealer every time the sound system freezes up. rockchie
if you ask them that, chances are they are going to try and fix it and if they do temporarily fix it then they will say its permanent and if they cant fix it then they will blame the device you are using and say it is unsupported. when that fails they will probably ask you to call ford support and see if they can fix it and if that goes wrong then you will probably be told to call the manufacturer of the device. If all that fails they will say they are sorry and will try to fix the problem by offering a form of service to you or of some type of compensation for the product, that is if you are persistent and look very agitated. if you are calm about it then you will probably be told that ford and microsoft are working on it and are trying their best to fix the problem. but after all is said and done, after all the angry talks and problems you try to fix, the reality is there is no permanent fix for the problem. the product has its problems like all products but we can try and push them a little to try harder, but in the end they can only give you something to cheer you up for the time so they can go back to fixing it. now in my response on fixing the problem, do you have the MFT? or one of the non navigation models? because if you have MFT there is an update at the dealerships that takes up to 2 hours or so. so far from playing with it there is very little problems in the new system and it works faster. not to say that it will fix your problem with the indexing, but it is worth a try. whats surprising to me is that most people at the dealership are completely unaware of the problems with sync. Service is the closest ones to knowing about the problems and only a handful know how to fix any of the problems from trial and error. ford really is just waiting on microsoft to come out with new patches. And im pretty sure theyre not as intouch with the problems like we are. long story short, you can try that, but its been tried many many times and in the end we are waiting for the problems to be fixed like before. lmartin2
I am not to sure how much MicroSoft has to do with the problem. Ford contracted a third party called bSquare to do the programming on the SYNC system. Microsoft only furnished the operating system. There was a rumor at one time that Ford replaced bSquare with another company, but I don't know if Ford actually changed the company. Bottom line Ford is still the responsible company. rockchie
ive read the same thing but that bSpuare no longer works on the system itself but the apps in it and all that. I read that its back in the hands of Microsoft for the MFT system. I agree its Fords fault for hiring these guys in the first place but at the moment to my understanding its now microsoft whos coding it so the future updates and errors are on microsoft on the coding process but also on ford for releasing the updates without testing first for further bugs. We will have to just wait and see.
gmcretz
1. I see that the latest version of SYNC was released in mid- to late-November 2012 by Ford is v3.5.1 and is only applicable to certain vehicles and configurations. Does this version apply to the 2011 F-250 Super Duty King Ranch 4x4? I have the full navigation system with the large screen in the center of the dash. 2. Is there a way to get the Navteq maps updated without having to pay for them separately? I pay the annual subscription for the I-traffic info. This is a $60k truck that I just realized that I have to pay another $300-400 to update the maps on....
rockchie
not that I know of, they make sure you pay to update cause they first update the system then add the new maps cause they require the new software. you can check syncmyride.com and make an account and see if there is any updates needed for you vehicle and if it doesn't say you do then chances are you cant update it. Nick P
I have a question I can't seem to find the answer to and I'm hoping you all can help. I downloaded SyncMyiTunes to my desktop and everytime I try to use it, it gets about 1/2 way through the music in my iTunes acct and stops. I get the message "iTunes is busy. Try your search again later." And it stops at the exact same point every time. I tried re-downloading the software but it didn't help. Anyone know what the problem is? Trying to find the answer on syncmyride.com is difficult.
missannette
Hi I don't know if I am posting on the correct page or not. I just picked up my 2013 C-Max 2 weeks ago. I been seeing a lot on the forums about a 3.5.1 and a V4 chip upgrade. How do I know if I need this or if I have it already being the car is only 2 weeks old. Thank You
