homeport
I just purchased a 2012 Lincoln MKZ and took my first trip. The SYNC system was properly installed and only partially worked. When I activated the Voice, the first automated voice was clearly heard and clearly heard my response for "Services". When the second activated voice responded and asked for the type of Service, I said "Directions". Any response I gave was answered with "I cannot hear you", or "Please state your response". Regardless of how soft or loud I responded, I got the same response back that my response could not be heard. Finally, this second voice asked if I wanted the Operator. My response of YES was met with the same "I cannot hear you" or " I don't understand". Finally, I was either cut off or sent back to the first voice which always seem to understand, but always wanted to send me back to "Services". Once I got to my destination, I tried the same voice activation scenario with my car stopped and engine off. Everything worked fine. That is, both automated operators heard me without any problem. Then, I turned on the engine, but did not move the car. Everything still worked fine. So, the problem is that once the car is moving past 15 mph, even with radio and air conditioning off, just the sound of the car motion will cause my voice or my wife's voice to become inaudible to the SYNC system. In summary, the first voice is no problem. The second voice that is required to obtain "Services" or many other options is not working and cannot hear or understand what I am saying when the car is in motion. I called Ford Mobile on a different cell phone when this first happened and while still driving on the highway. They did a master reset but that did not change anything. They also said to pull the SYNC Fuse #13 under the dash and reinstall it. I took the car to the dealer when I arrived home. He said he pulled Fuse #13, but when driving home, this did nothing to help the problem. Another call to Ford Mobile and they told me maybe the microphone is faulty. This seemed odd to me since the first automated voice that comes on works fine and I would suspect that if the microphone is faulty, I would have trouble with the first voice as well. Has anyone had the same problem? Thanks
w2jo
I have a Fusion Hybrid 2010 and a Lincoln Hybrid 2012. Great cars.. But Sync voice control has never worked properly on either one. But then.. The Sync system was designed by Microsoft. I have no hope that it will ever work properly. I apologize for my dismal outlook, but much effort on my part to get it working right on the Fusion Hybrid had no positive result. Letters to Ford Customer Service on this topic went unanswered. Good Luck! Edited February 21, 2012 by w2jo
homeport
I don't believe this is a Microsoft problem. The many folks that are having this problem indicate that it is a Ford problem, basically, the system is not ready for "prime time". Perhaps a future update may solve some of the problems, but since this is such a long standing issue and such a low priority for Ford, I would not get my hopes up. The next car I get will not be a Ford and will have a system that works. Many do work. I have a Fusion Hybrid 2010 and a Lincoln Hybrid 2012. Great cars..
