aavedisian
Well, the story is the same for me. Bought a 2011 Expedition EL in early Feb. Sync was working up until a couple of days ago. Now the voice is gone for navigation, phone, and everything else, although the visible menus still work. Furthermore, it suddenly stopped understanding my commands so it is now pretty much worthless. Does Ford monitor this forum? I haven't seen any responses from them as to how to correct this (although when I had some problems with Sync earlier, they did provide a very laughable suggestion: disconnect the battery to perform a hard reset - Nice! Just what I should be doing when I'm driving down the highway. How about making something that works? That would be a great idea, Ford!) Do they care that they have pretty much put a complete piece of junk in a lot of cars and charged many people dearly for this? I guess I should have bought the Sequoia. Unbelievable. ssheaffer
I have a 2011 Taurus SHO with My Touch and am experiencing the same problems. The system is laughably intermittent (although it's becoming less funny each day). Some days it works just fine and then some days it won't recognize voice, bluetooth audio won't work and/or phone won't work. Every time I start it up it's a new world. All I get from Sync support is "Do a master reset." Well, I can promise you now that I can do a master reset and pair my phone with this piece of junk with my eyes shut. Why doesn't Ford have the management initiative to at least tell us what is wrong with the system and when a fix is coming. I'm not stupid. I work in high-tech and am extremely computer literate. This system is defective and Ford is mum on the problem. I'm beginning to get very angry about the whole situation. Clearly Ford is not monitoring these posts which is amazing. Why doesn't Ford tell owners anything (or dealers for that matter). My dealer is clueless. Ford's support line is helpless. My carrier just knows that the Sync system is a cluster and couldn't help me either.
christalf1970
I'm at the dealer right now. They act like they have never heard of this problem and even told me that there isn't a fuse for the sync system. Doesn't bode well for there service department as the manual says that fuse 13 is dedicated to the sync system. When I mentioned this forum and the number of issues (including the fact that people are pulling the fuse to reset) the fool said they wouldn't put too much stock in this as it isn't a ford site. Incredible! mcmahon.bj
sdan
I bought a 2011 Taurus LTD in Aug, 2010. I do not use a Bluetooth phone, but I use the USB to sync my Creative Zen MP3 player. "Samantha" works some of the time, but doesn't seem to be able to remember my VR profile. She will play the right tune about 50% of the time. Next I am going to delete my VR profile and go with "default". There is a setting which is supposed to eliminate the need to say "USB' instead of "line in", but it has never worked for me. She ALWAYS says "Please say a command", after which I ALWAYS must repeat "USB". I like this car a lot, but am frustrated by the fact that the Sync system is so iffy. If anyone at Ford is monitoring this site, we would all like some clear instructions on how to fix this problem.
chr3000
We are having the same issue with my wife's 2011 Escape. My 2010 Flex running an older version of Sync works fine. We are both using an iphone 3GS.
MarkCorsi
Same here... Brand new 2011 Fusion SEL AWD....3000kms.. The sync worked great for about a month. Was coming back from a business trip (4 hour drive), stopped for gas and then got back on highway. Looked down at my phone and noticed it was ringing, but not through the sync. Tried answering with the steering wheel buttons but nothing. Couldn't even dial out manually... Tried all voice commands. At first the help was working, and then nothing... no matter how much I yelled!! The sync went 'deaf' on me...... The next day, everything seems to work, I can dial out and stream music, but the sync still can't hear me!!! This is extrememly frustrating.... and seeing no answers on this forum is kind of sad... HELP!!!!
Dradorin
Newly Registered User here, I signed up here as I too am having the exact same problem. My new 2011 Ford Focus sync was working fine, Could stream Bluetooth audio through my Blackberry and use the on steering wheel controls to change tracks... but that stopped working. If I hit play on my blackberry, it plays fine but controls dont work anymore. This morning I got a disconnect (BlueTooth) while trying to make a call, reconnect and made call fine. Later on in the Drive to work, I went to make another Voice call but now SYNC is no longer hearing ANY of my commands. This Vehicle has less than 7000 km's on it. /sigh. grandpaf413@embarqmail.com
Hey, I bought a 2011 Ford Fusion about 3 months ago. Sync worked completely fine up until a week ago. I have and connect my Droid 2 over bluetooth. One night it worked, then I went to the car then next morning and the Sync doesn't recognize my voice. I press the Voice button and it says "Sync please say a command". No matter what I say it doesn't recognize it and after a few seconds it says please say a command and lists my options. Any suggestions or anyone else had this problem? I have a 2011 Ford Fusion and Synced my new Droid 2 Global about one month ago. I had the same problem sporadically, until I made sure that the volume on the Droid was set at at least mid to high. Also make sure the Droid is not on mute. I haven't had a problem since. calicojack42
Holy Cow! I am glad I am not alone! 2011 Ford Fusion SEL, had it for 5 days... just 5 DAYS and now, BT audio won't work, it can't hear any of my voice commands, and I can't turn Bluetooth on. I've done a master reset, and reset my iPhone with no success. I've contacted my dealer and we'll see what they say, but from the sound of the posts, I'll get bupkis from them. CN87
Just thought I'd say I'm having the same issue as everyone else. No sense in taking it to the dealership if other have reported no success.... I may go down the Microsoft route...
mcmahon.bj
Thought I'd add to the chorus. I've had this happen 3 times in as many months of owning the car. The voice system simply stops recognizing anything being said. I've had numerous other issues but this is the most aggravating. Actually the most aggravating is that Ford is able to keep all the bugs in this system under the hood. If they were getting as much bad press about this as they deserve I am confident most of the problems would be resolved in short order. Mntallen03
2011 Fusion Hybrid. SYNC suddenly stopped recognizing commands. It hears when I ask for "phone" but doesn't hear any further. My phonebook shows up in the listing. Manually entered a phone #, says it is connected and the call is through, but I hear nothing. Spoke to a SYNC rep last month who had me do a master reset on the SYNC then reset my iphone. It worked then but may have been a fluke because it stopped again today and I reset both several times and while it says phone connected, nothing goes through. I had the same problem with my SYNC system and my iphone 4. I deleted the phone from the system and re-paired it and now it seems to be working fine. pj10
New Edge SEL - voice commands worked for about 2 days, then it did not recognize any command I gave it. It did not even respond to "Help" except to turn off voice commands. After 2 more days without voice commands were recognized again without me doing anything. I don't think it's a weather-related problem. It is clearly random and really needs to be fixed. How do you do a master reset without disconnecting the battery? Any suggestions or anyone else had this problem? Same problem here. I have a 2011 Focus SE and occasionally nothing I do can get SYNC to hear me. The first time it happened, my mother-in-law had just hung her handicapped placard from the rearview mirror so I thought that might have something to do with it but, no. The problem happens with or without the handicapped sign in place and only very intermittently. Also, SYNC seems to forget my Bluetooth devices sometimes. #%@%!^! MS Software! arkansascarnut
UGH! I'm not liking what I'm reading. I had a 2010 Focus SES with NO SYNC problems EVER! I loved my Sync! 11,000 miles and 16 months later I traded for a 2011 Ford Escape. I've had it two weeks and it has 71 miles on it and Sync can't "hear" me since day 2 of owning it. I hope I didn't make a mistake trading!
cbmetroford
Sometimes when the voice command stops recognizing voice commands, you have to pull the SYNC fuse to reset the system...See your vehicle user guide for details on where the fuse box is and which fuse it is....(REMEMBER!!!!! WHEN YOU PULL THE FUSE LET IT SIT FOR 15-20 MINUTES TO MAKE SURE IT RESET!!!!)
mimiokems
Well, it is 104 in California and my sync is not working. SO the cold weather theory is bogus.

Turns out after an upgrade to V2.8 and two more visits to dealer, the problem was a faulty microphone. I am happy to report voice recognition has worked consistently for 2 days now!! kevharv
Let me join in the conversation...Same issue. 2011 Fusion SEL, bought in Jan 11 and now(Jul 11) the BT isn't working and neither is the voice recognition. The voice went out first, then the BT stopped shorty there after. The BT on my phone can't see the BT on the Fusion, and everytime I try and manually sync a BT device, Sync notifies me that BT is turned off and asks to turn it on...over, and over, and over. This forum is the first I heard about the 'master switch' so I'll look for that after work today.
gracesolis3
I have a 2011 Ford Expedition XLT, and same thing worked fine for 2 months, now nothing!! Ugh!
SyncAlicia
ATTENTION!!! if your voice command does not work all of a sudden, but worked when you bought the car. reset your phone by taking the battery out for a couple minutes. 9 times out of 10 this will work, sync works off your phone, if your phone wont do it, sync wont do it. if this doesnt work re-sync your phone
ldh1943
What good does it do to ask if anyone else is having the problem with voice recognition not working. The question is WHAT IS THE FIX?
garylane
What good does it do to ask if anyone else is having the problem with voice recognition not working. The question is WHAT IS THE FIX? Just bought 2012 mustang convertible. It is impossible to get sync to recognize my words when the top is down. You would think they would have thought of that and install a more directional mike in a ragtop?
var1559
Bought a new Taurus in June. My Sync is doing everything you have all said. Sync worked fine then 3 weeks ago the voice recognition refuses to work on the phone. I can tell it to use audio, climate and such, but won't accept my phone commands or my wife's. Been to the Ford Dealer, AT&T and the Apple Store Genuis, yes I have a iphone and even after Apple gave me a new phone and it didn't even work. But it dawned on me, Apple put the old sim card in the new phone. I wonder if a sim card could be corrupt? Well today I went back to AT&T and asked for a new sim card for my phone. When my wife gets home I will try it and see. Let you know. And why isn't a Ford or Micro Soft rep monitoring this site and replying?????????? I'm 64 years old. This isn't suppose to be happening to me.
