Using iPhone Maps w/ Ford MySync

Recommended Posts

I have a Ford Fiesta SE 1.0L 3-cylinder engine.

Prior to upgrading to Sync 4.4 (from 4.3), I had no problems using my iPhone's Map app to announce navigation directions to the car's speakers. I made sure the HFP prompt is enabled, which means that even if the iPhone is not selected as the audio source, the navigation prompts still comes through to the car speakers.

My dealer upgraded my Sync 4.3 to Sync 4.4 and now I have problems where the iPhone's navigation prompts are always cutoff in the beginning.

So for example, when the iPhone is supposed to announce through the car speakers "In 1 mile, turn left on Main Street", what I hear instead through the speakers is "...turn left on Main Street". Or, when the iPhone is supposed to announce through the car speakers "Slight right on to Anywhere Road", I hear instead "...On to anywhere Road"

I have confirmed basically what is happening is that the "In 1 mile" portion of the prompt (approximately 2 seconds) does seem to be sent to the car speaker, but MySync is not fast enough to say this information.

What is the fix?

Is there a fix for this?

I regret asking my dealer to upgrade to 4.4, because 4.3 was working pretty well. Only sometimes 4.3's bluetooth would act up and then I'd have to reboot the system, but that was rare.

Help?

Hi DrRubyPhD,

Check out the Bluetooth connection troubleshooting tips listed here: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-technology/sync/get-started-with-sync/troubleshooting-tips-for-sync-and-sync-with-myford.html (especially tip #2). Since you're unable to remove the battery from an iPhone, hold the POWER and HOME buttons until the Apple logo appears instead. Performing these steps will ensure that your connection with SYNC is optimal.

Thanks, Kim.

I have tried all of that before and it doesn't solve my problem.

I tried deleting the entire address book from sync to see if that would resolve the problem. No, it didn't.

I have tried master reset. No, it didn't resolve the problem.

I have tried deleting the bluetooth pairing and then re-pair it. No, it didn't solve the problem.

I have tried powering on and off the iPhone using the method described by Ford. No, it didn't solve the problem.

Bluetooth connection with Sync is optimal! I am able to stream music from my iPhone to Sync using bluetooth and there's no problem.

However, the problem with using the iPhone Maps with Sync remains.

Any other suggestions?

I have the same problem with a 2014 Ford Explorer.

The local Ford dealer did the update to Sync 4.4 for me about a month ago. I went back to the local Ford dealer they performed a reset and all the procedures listed in the previous answer by Ford and the problem persist.

Furthermore at the dealer we tried:

1. Two different iPhones (5 and 6Plus) and the problem appeared with both

2. Different GPS apps (Apple Maps, Google Maps & Waze) they all behaved the same with the same problem

3. The local dealer tried the iPhones on a different 2015 Ford Explorer with Gen 1 Sync and it behaved the same.

4. The iPhones and apps work fine on my wife 2015 Ford Escape with MyFord and 2nd gen Sync.

As many people seem to have the same problem with Sync 4.4 upgrade on 1st generation Sync it is obviously that the Sync 4.4 is buggy. Ford please do not brush us off, instead provide us a working fix to the problem.

Hi DrRubyPhD,

I’d like to gather some additional information from you to ensure I am giving you the best answer possible. Would you please provide me with the steps you are taking to use Bluetooth audio with your iPhone maps?

Whitney,

DrRubyPhD clearly specified how the iPhone Maps app is set:

"I made sure the HFP prompt is enabled, which means that even if the iPhone is not selected as the audio source, the navigation prompts still comes through the car speakers"

I have the same settings which mean:

While the car entertainment system is playing either Radio or Sirius or CD and the iPhone Maps app is set to provide navigation guidance using the iPhone GPS, the iPhone navigation prompts interrupt the playing music from the car entertainment system by using the phone audio to send the navigation prompt to the car speakers. When the navigation prompt is finished the entertainment system resumed playing the music.

Everything was working fine until the Sync update to 4.4. Since then a prompt like "In 200 feet turn right on Boonton Avenue" get cut off to something like "onton Avenue".

With the Waze application the setting is "Prefer Bluetooth = On" and the results are the same as iPhone Maps app.

Hi,

I'm submitting your concerns for review. Please send a PM with your VIN, name, contact number, phone iOS, phone carrier, and the name of the APP(s) being used.

Hi, I have recently purchased a 2015 Ford Fusion 2.0 EcoBoost Titanium which came with the Ford Sync 2 system. I would like to understand how I can pair my iPhone so that I can use the Google Maps or TomTom Navigation system on the phone. The SD card for the onboard navigation is not currently available for the South African region, and I think it will be costly. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Again SYNC 4.4 rears its ugly head. For those of you that have not updated to SYNC 4.4 be glad you have waited. SYNC 4.4 has many issues associated with it, including phone pairing, extra ringing, resetting your settings to default and many more. All of these issues have been documented here and other SYNC forums. I firmly believe FORD needs to pull that version of software and replace it with one that actually works.

SYNC 4.4 had been pulled from the update site. Hopefully that means the new update will be available soon.

Contrary to what you may think the new update will be SYNC 4.6. What happened to SYNC 4.5? SYNC 4.5 is a factory only installation that is not and will not be available to dealers or placed onthe site.

I wonder what issues SYNC 4.6 will have solved and what new issues it will contain. I hope they put all of the previously removed features back into the package that they had removed in earlier versions.

Hopefully they get done with SYNC 4.6 soon (that means within the next two weeks nit sometime in the next 6 months) and post it for all to download, install, and test.

I have a different problem, but it's still an iPhone/Maps/Sync problem on my FFH 2014.

I have an iPhone 6 that of course comes with a Maps app. When I use the app, I can tell it to send its audio output to the iPhone or to SYNC. When I send it to the iPhone everything is fine. It comes out the phone. But when I send it to SYNC I don't hear anything. I have increased the phone's volume, but that doesn't help. Another oddity is that my radio is still playing, so if I increase the car's volume, it just raises the volume of the radio. I figure I must be doing something wrong. Can someone help? Thanks.
