  1. If you've tried all the things mentioned here (the master reset and the factory defaults and the firmware update)... you may find that they don't help at all. Some people say that even removing the fuse doesn't work for long. Before resorting to that painful, all day (or maybe multiple day) and possibly expensive visit to the dealer, try what worked for me. The key is the fuse. But you have to pull the right one, and you have to clean or replace it. Check your owner's manual for the fuse configuration -- look for "fuse" in the index in the back and find the INTERIOR fuse config not the engine compartment fuses. It's different for every car, so don't just pull 29 or 13 because that's what you read here. Look for the fuse for "Voice Control." It may differ for your vehicle, so look for something similar or something related to the radio/SYNC. For the 2014 Fusion it's fuse 32. Clean the fuse connections or replace it altogether. A pencil eraser is a simple and effective contact cleaner. The simple act of pulling a fuse will often clean enough of it to let it make contact again, but the problem will reoccur quickly if you don't clean it better than that. With the fuse out, turn on the car and see if SYNC will come on. If NOT, then you have the right fuse. Congratulations. Replace the fuse. You don't have to leave the fuse out for 30 minutes as I read in another thread. The loss of electricity is immediate -- there is no backup battery inside the radio maintaining its settings. Turn things on and WAIT 30 SECONDS then try the voice command. If it still doesn't work, then you might need an exorcist... or the dealer, whichever you think is the lesser evil. By pulling the fuse and cleaing it, you did two things that fixed the problem: 1) interrupted power to SYNC completely (turning the car off doesn't), 2) provided a longer lasting fix through clean contacts. Good luck!
  2. Some things may have changed in the 3 years since this thread was started, but one thing remains the same: sometimes SYNC goes deaf (stops hearing voice commands). If that's the case, here's the fix: Remove the key from the ignition Check your owners manual for the fuse configuration (look up "fuse" in the index in the back) When you find the right page for INTERIOR FUSES (not engine compartment fuses), look for the fuse for "Voice Control." If your car doesn't have that, look for something similar or something related to SYNC. It's fuse 32 in the 2014 Fusion. Also read the instructions for finding the fuse panel since Ford cleverly hides it from the likes of us. Remove the fuse With the fuse OUT, insert the key and turn until you can use the radio. If the radio/SYNC won't come on, then you have the right fuse. TURN THE KEY OFF. Clean the fuse connections (a pencil eraser works great) Replace the fuse Turn the key on and the radio/SYNC. WAIT about 30 seconds, then try the voice command button. If you were successful, it should work. If not, make that painful appointment with your dealer. Contrary to what people say here, you DON'T have to wait 30 minutes after you take out the fuse. The loss of electricity to the device is immediate - there is no battery backup inside the radio. Just clean the fuse to keep this from reoccurring, which is a common complaint here.
  3. Check for an update to the firmware at syncmyride.com. I had the same complaint -- "why does it default to LINE IN?!?" -- and after I installed the update it remembers your last connection. Well, it works most of the time.
