Hi Bill. I've been a Sync user since December but I'm under the impression that there are only certain phone apps that can be linked to Sync. Like you, I have AT&T Navigator on my Droid smart phone and the two don't link up. I decided to keep Navigator for use in my older vehicles, but overall it's better than the Sync Navigation. Apps that do link up between smart phones and Sync are Bluetooth music as well as texting and contact list.
Like you, I've been using Microsoft Windows since Version 3.1 (1985), as well as I've been in the Information Technology industry for 19 years. My assumption was that Sync, being a Microsoft product, would have a similar feel as Windows. This is not the case.
Seeing the video (from a prior post) about Ford partnering with Blackberry, I got the impression that the partnership is for faster connectivity from smart phone to Sync. But Ford is not dropping Microsoft.
I'd be curious to know if either Ford or Microsoft follow these forum posts and provide feedback. If the partnership between Ford and Microsoft will survive, I have many recommendations to improve Sync. For example, when you back up in my 2014 Lincoln MKZ the rear view camera works great. The frustration is that the warning messages display on the screen to the left of speedometer. You're backing up, trying to look out both the car windows and center screen (for rear view camera) simultaneously, then when a warning buzzer comes on you now have to look to left of the speedometer to read the warning message. Why didn't the developers just display the warning messages in a corner of the center screen, over the camera image? That makes more sense.
Please don't get the wrong idea. The technology is impressive and wows all my passengers driving older cars. However, I really would like to work with either Ford or Microsoft to improve on their software so the functionality is in the next version which can be uploaded in my car.
