  1. People who are waiting for the Sync 3 update for a 2016 model with version 1.0 should check current system version if your vehicle is connected to a WiFi network. I know of a 2016 F-150 that updated itself from version 1.0 to 2.0. I have also heard that the dealer can install version 2.2 on some 2016 vehicles. I know someone with a 2016 Escape with software version 1.0. I am going to see if the car updates it's software when connected to WiFi.
  2. SYNC Members 2 posts Location:New Brunwick Posted Yesterday, 04:57 PM I was sure the sales man that sold me the car told me with the new software in the 2017 you can track the car (maybe I'll have to ask him about it). I think the government can track every new car produced, but I digress. The feature is called "Sync Connect". It would appear on the window sticker of the new car and you will also see "Onboard Modem Serial Number" under "Settings">"Vehicle" on the touch screen. It is currently available on the 2017 Escape, 2017 Fusion and 2017 F-150. If you have this feature, when you add the vehicle to your account on the "FordPass" app, one of the options will be vehicle controls and you can send a request for access to the car. I think the FordPass app has many benefits even if you don't have Sync Connect in your car. 3. It's not available on the Edge from the factory. You would have to have something installed.
  4. I do have one suggestion. Instead of pressing the back button several times to exit a menu and finally pressing the "home" button, you could press one of the bottom menu buttons and then "home". May save someone a few screens and some frustration.
  5. I would do a "clean pairing" first. Delete the car from the phone and delete the phone from the car and start the pairing process from the beginning. If your phone updated itself, that may have affected how the Bluetooth connection works.
  6. Also you may need to disconnect and reconnect the phone the first time for it to work. Because you changed a setting the phone has to connect with the new setting turned on.
  7. If you are connecting an iPhone, after the phone is paired and downloading contacts, you need to turn on "show notifications" to get text messages through any of the Sync systems. Settings>Bluetooth>Sync(or your car)> touch the little blue circle with the "i" in the middle to turn on "show notifications". Many times, if the phone is on silent or there is no indication from the phone that you have received a text message then the car will not be able to share the information with you.
  8. You will usually be able to hear navigation directions from your phone if you select your audio source as Bluetooth. If you are listening to the radio, the phone is trying to send audio to the car but the car wont play it. Go into the settings of the navigation app that you are using and you can select if you want to here the directions from the phone or over Bluetooth. There is also an option on some navigation apps to have directions played as a phone call where you will see "incoming call", hear the instruction, and then see "call ended" as you radio comes back on.
  9. Experiment: iPhone 7, iOS v 10.2.1, 2017 Ford Escape, Sync 3 v 2.0 with navigation Plugged iPhone into USB, system prompted Apple CarPlay, I declined CarPlay, system indexed the iPhone, "USB iPhone" showed up in audio sources, I was able to browse, select and play music from the touch screen, I was able to use voice commands to select music, enabled CarPlay, checked function of CarPlay, disabled CarPlay, connected iPhone by USB, I was able to select and play music from iTunes by the touch screen, when I tried to use voice controls, the system responded "preparing device for voice commands" (not exact wording), tried again after a few minutes, same response, iTunes had 2 albums in it, iPhone did not have any apps to test out AppLink. I will do more testing and let you know.
  10. I connected an iPhone through Bluetooth yesterday. I turned on text messaging and tried Siri through the steering wheel to reply to the text. Then I tried out Apple CarPlay and its features. Everything was working perfectly. I wanted to go back and try to use the USB to play music in iTunes. This would allow me to use the factory navigation with Travel Link and voice controls for the music. I disabled Apple CarPlay in Sync 3 settings and connected the iPhone by USB. The new tile showed up in audio sources as "USB iPhone", for example, and the display indicated that it was indexing the iPhone. When I selected the "USB iPhone", the audio system tried to connect, then disconnected and displayed "could not connect to device" or something like that. After that, I went into the iPhone's settings to see if I needed to shut off Apple CarPlay there. I also went so far as a master reset on the Sync 3 system to try to get the phone to play through the USB. So far, I have had no luck. From what I am seeing in this forum, I am thinking that allowing CarPlay is not the issue. I now think that the system may not be able to connect to iPhones through the USB to play music and I'm not sure about iPods either. I will be trying different iPhones and and iPods (if I can get my hands on them) and I will be doing it in different cars BEFORE enabling Apple CarPlay. I will keep you posted as to what I find.
