  1. For all the 2016 Mustang drivers out there thinking about doing this CarPlay upgrade themselves I can confirm two things. The NON NAV software installers worked flawlessly with no issues. (http://www.f150forum...35/#post5081711) I am now successfully upgraded to v2.2 from v1.1. Second, there are two USB modules out there. The OFFICIAL Ford USB module is part #HC3Z-19A387-B. As of right now it is on severe backorder and Ford is not even quoting an estimated shipping date. The UNOFFICIAL USB module part #GJ7Z-19A387-B which is for the Lincoln Navigator (I got mine at a local Ford dealership parts department) is almost identical to the official Ford part, the only difference is the edge of the USB ports light up in blue on the Ford, white on the Lincoln. I can confirm that even though the original 2016 Mustang Hub has one USB port and the part listed above has 2 USB ports the part is almost identical and fits like a glove. The one exception is, ironically, that there are TWO USB inputs feeding into the single USB port on the original part, where on the new part there is just ONE USB input for the two combined ports. I plugged in the USB with the GREY head into the Lincoln part and VOILA!!! CARPLAY!!! Part fits like a glove. Whole process took less than 10 minutes. Use a trim tool (think plastic flathead screwdriver) to gently pry the hub out (from the arm console between the seats). Unplug the three cables, take the new part, plug in the grey power cable and the grey USB cable and if you already have the Sync 3 2.2 upgrade installed you are all set. So far in 3 hours of driving I have had no issues. Only other recommendation I would make is to delete your phone from your sync system and re-add it like it was a new device. Best of luck everyone!!
  2. Well I just called Ford about my 2016 Mustang which has Sync 3 v1.1 and his system says that is the latest available update for my vehicle. I really hope you are right though and they are just rolling out in stages the next few days. If anyone with a 2016 Mustang, or 2016 Ford in general is successful in getting the v2.0 software installed please make note on the board here. It would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Just got told by my dealer, and by Ford Sync team that the update "will be available some time in early 2017". It's official. We are getting screwed over yet again.
  4. Do you guys know how I can find out the part number for the 2016 mustang? If its already backordered I'd love to put a request in now so my hardware is good to go when the update finally comes out. My dealership has been no help at all and their parts department seem clueless.
  5. I didn't even know you could add your favorite team. Must be part of the Sync 3 2.0 update. Which I still don't have yet
  6. I spoke to their customer support who had a detailed conversation "supposedly" with one of their technicians. When they told me to make an appointment to come in I clarified "This is the Sync THREE 2.0 update which enables the CARPLAY feature for the 2016 MUSTANG" She then reiterated that to the tech and he said yes, the update was available. Then when I brought it in they were like...."Oops.....don't know where our tech got that info but it was wrong." Incompetence!
  7. SO. Strong armed the Ford dealer I got my car from. They say they have the sync 3 2.0 update for the 2016 models. I clarify. THE Sync 3 2.0 update that enables CarPlay. I give them the current version of my Sync 3 system, and clarify, they say they can update me to Sync 3 2.0. Now I am taking this with a grain of salt. I dropped off my car this morning, will let you know what happens. Hopefully you'll get the chance to strong arm your dealership to. But wait till I confirm. UPDATE: BASTARDS!!! They tell me they have it a week ago. Get me psyched up. Have me schedule an appointment a week later. have me drive my vehicle in first thing in the morning. I got up 90 minutes early to get my car in on time, and what happens? THEY TELL ME ITS NOT AVAILABLE YET!!!!! FIVE HOURS AFTER I DROPPED IT OFF!!!!! The incompetence is mind boggling! What an absolute waste of time! MAN I'M PISSED!
  8. Hey PC. I have not been able to get Sync 3 to re-index without changing the name of the drive (which is a tad irritating, but I started to have fun with it calling the the USB "Punch It" or "Lets Rock" which my friends get a kick out of when I use voice control). If you have found a way to Name the USB add music, plug it into your car, remove it, add or remove music (without renaming), then had that music appear I'd love to know how.
  9. Sadly Caedhros my conversation was not as successfully. See below: Please wait for a SYNC Agent to respond. Mary says: Hello John. My name is Mary how may I help you? John says: I am looking to get info on the next Sync 3 update John says: I have a 2016 Mustang John says: and one of the things advertised by Ford when I bought my vehicle is that my car would be able to use Carplay with the future Sync 3 update John says: So I was hoping to get an estimated release date Mary says: Congratulations on your new Mustang! Currently we don't have an exact date, but we do know that it is set for later this year for release. John says: and confirmation that only a software update will be required and no hardware update will be required. John says: You honestly cannot offer a more narrow release date? Like this summer? "later this year" is rather vague Mary says: It is, and I regret that is all we know right now, John. We'll have more specifics for owners regarding the feature being added closer to the release date when it is provided to us. Keep an eye on your Owner.Ford.com account and Media.Ford.com for updates with more information. John says: Some have said your support team has said this August Mary says: If I had a timeframe to provide you, I would. August is not a time we're aware of. John says: But you are Sync support. I know I am not the only one contacting you guys. Its a bit frustrating that for 3 months no further info has been given but your site is advertising Sync 3 Carplay non stop John says: There must be someone you can contact for more info Mary says: I can understand your frustration; we do get direct information, but with that information provided to us we only know that it'll be later this year.
  10. Hi everyone. I'm sure like me many 2016 Ford owners are eager to get our hands on the new Sync update so we can use Carplay or Android Auto. Right now the 2017 Escape is the only Ford which has Carplay/Auto. Here is the million dollar question. What is the VERSION number of Sync 3 on the 2017 Ford Escape? I recently dropped my Mustang at a dealer ship because I was told there was a new update that my Wifi update wasn't grabbing. It was Sync 3 v1.1 and sadly did not bring me CarPlay. So I am just looking to find out what version of Sync 3 is on the Escape so I know what Sync 3 version number to look out for. Is it Sync 3 v 1.X? Or is it Sync 3 v2.0? Thanks
  11. My understanding is that the 1.1 update IS NOT the CarPlay update. Although I have not gotten confirmation on whether a USB hardware update will be required. The dealership maintenance teams I have spoken to say they have heard nothing about a hardware update being required. They seem to be under the impression that it will only require a software update. When will that update be released? That is still a mystery. My concern is why, even through the dealerships own wifi, my Mustang did not acknowledge the 1.1 update. I only was able to get the 1.1 update by bringing my car in for service. Hopefully the 1.1 update addresses that issue and future updates will be available over wifi as advertised.
  12. Just had my 2016 Mustang upgraded fromSync 3 1.0 to Sync 3 1.1. This update was not available via wifi. Despite numerous attempts was not prompted to install. Had to go through dealership. Sync 3 1.1 DID NOT enable CarPlay. Word is still that it will be available through a later update. General opinion of dealerships I have spoken with is they are not aware of a mandatory USB hardware upgrade for 2016 models, but could not eliminate the need. Still general opinion is Carplay should be available via software update only "later this year".
  13. Anyone heard of a more detailed release date other than "this summer"?
  14. Well if anyone is successful in updating their 2016 model to Sync 3 with CarPlay please post their success here and whether they did it through the wifi update or through their Ford Dealer. Thanks.
