Isn't it about time that Ford brings their pricing for on-board navigation systems and map upgrades in line with what has happened in the commercial market? The navigation system technology has dropped drastically in price over the years even to the point that it is now included in most cell phones. In addition, outside of the auto industry, map upgrades are a simple no cost download. Not only are the in dash systems way overpriced, the map updates have not come down in years. Now, for the price of a Ford A7 map update, you can pretty much find someone selling a dash mounted unit that has free updates for life. I'm really tired of Ford expecting to continue to rip people off for $150 EVERY YEAR for a map update. Not only that, but the last A6 update I received did not have a couple of new roads in my area that had been in for months and were already showing up on Google Maps and Garmin updates. I would think a company the size of Ford would be able to exert a little bit of influence to support their existing customer base by negotiating better pricing for these map updates. People are growing more reliant on these systems ... and if you are in a bad part of town it would be nice to know you can rely on the system to safely direct you out. I've gotten where there are times I will also enter a destination on my phone's nav system just to be sure. I've been caught too many times with out dated ... but current Sync map has misdirected me because an exit has moved, etc.
I would love to see Ford support their existing customers without telling us telling us we need to buy a new car.
