  1. Ford should be offering a good upgrade package for us to go to Sync3. Sync1 sucks. Always has. Slower digging a hole to china. No upgrades for a year or two..
  2. I just got off the phone with Ford, and they confirmed what I found on the website. No Sync updates. This is disappointing in that Sync has always been slow, not much sorting on the GPS, and GPS tracks about 100 feet off sometimes. I see lots of new features "FordPass" for apps that I believe should be added to prior Sync vehicles. Seems if you pay a lot of money for a car, that updates should be provided on a regular basis for at least 10 years. Result is.... I know next time I purchase a Ford vehicle, updates will only come for the first year or so, then stop. Maybe the same for any other car. But most device continue updates for longer periods of time. Just my opinion.
  3. I doubt they care. I've had my car over a year and only one update so far. They need to rewrite the entire Sync system so it isn't so slow. sometimes it doesn't react for 30 seconds or so. Disabling NAV makes it more dangerous. Requiring someone to pull over on the freeway just to find gas or food.
  4. So, IOS7 is just around the corner. There is news about what is going to be called "IOS in the car" where an iPhone can comunicate with your car. Looks like it will require anothe upgrade for Ford Sync, but may be down the road. Finally it will all work. I just hope it doesn't require a new car !!!! http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2013/06/apples-ios7-ready-for-the-car.html See link.
  5. I do not beleive this is a Google issue, but a Ford Sync issue in that they decided not to support Google. They are in bed with MapQuest, an AOL entity from pre 2000. Sync should work with Google, , not Google work with Sync.
  6. That is a good question. Probably an update once a year maybe, and paid for after a certain time. I have used Garmin for a very long time. The one I have now has free lifetime updates, and updates 3 or 4 times a year. It is usually right on, but it is a tool. It can take me on a weird route sometimes, but is about 90% in getting me where I need to go. Many times it is wrong due to the map being wrong from new construction or something like that. But my Garmin is fast, has lots of sorting options, as well as searching options like finding a location near my destination, or near my route. Sync NAV has no options. Just a date or alpha sort. Can't sort by closest or custom category. I only have a few destinations in my Ford NAV as I always have to page through, and it is extremely slow in that each time I push the screen there is a delay before it updates the screen. Once in a great while it is faster. There is a Sync update out, I am going tomorrow I hope, and maybe it will be better.
  7. I am over it. I just use my Garmin. My Ford NAV takes up to 5 minutes or more many times just to figure out where I am. I put in the destination, then drive 1/2 way there before it starts to work. Almost completely useless. It's a novelty item. Nice to see a map while I am driving if I have it up, otherwise not. If I need to find anything or get somewhere where I don't know where I am going I use my Garmin. I love the MPG my Fusion gets, but will probably trade in a year or so for a GM car with the same MPG. But will probably rent one for a month just to test. I am very dissapointed in Ford.
  8. Many of us if not most have iPhones, so no app is available. As far as Mapquest I have tried and it doesn't send to anywhere. Plus it just doesn't work as well as Goggle Maps. Just like most of the Sync functions don't work well with an iPhone. I am guessing that Ford assumed people buying cars don't really care about those things. Of course they are wrong. I had trouble yesterday where Sync just locked up for a minute or two. Did not respond to any touch, no nav, music just kept going, finally it responded, when I ejected the CD.
  9. Not Microsofts fault. Ford does not have to use them. Ford needs to use an OS that works for it's customers for all brands of phones. It isn't that hard, it is Ford's responsibility to pick an OS or OS's that will provide what is needed. They have not done that and there has been plenty of time, so I doubt they ever will. I will shop better next time.
  10. Hmmmm 2 or 3 years, well one of the car manufactures will probably license Garmin to do their GPS. And 2 or 3 years is enough time for GM to have a good 40mpg hybrid, and 2 or 3 years is enough time to get plenty of use from my FFTI. So may be trade in time. GPS aside, by then I will be so sick of Sync that I may never purchase a Ford again. But, maybe they are all that way. Next time I will rent one and drive it for a month or so to make sure.
  11. That is what I thought. I really can't believe Ford did that. While I love the car, mechanically wise, I am not happy with the electronics. I am an IT person, and know that they could have done a good job if they wanted. So I am more than disjointed at the car, but at Ford. My next car will very likely not be a Ford just for this reason. It is easy really, Keep the buttons and 7" screen, and let the customer choose what interface they want based on their phone. One for iPhones (IOS) one for Droid or Microsoft phones. Maybe even a third. Then it works for everyone. But to exclude iPhone's which currently have a huge market share is a big mistake. I now know why they don't put the NAV chip in before selling the car, they don't want customers to see how bad it is. My next car I will sync my phone, and then test texting, apps, etc.
  12. I am using an iPhone 4s, and my 2013 Fusion Hybrid Titanium has issues staying connected. I periodically get a "lost connection" and then trying to reconnect with my phone. When a call comes in, it take 5 to 10 seconds for my Sync system to switch from music to a screen where I can accept the call. Most times I just grab my phone and hit the answer button. Then I can hear my call with Sync. So I grab my phone and switch to speaker on the phone or just put the phone to my ear. Sometimes I ask the person to hold a second, and I can choose speaker, and then Sync on my phone to get Sync to work. Even if Sync was first selected. I have never had issues with my phone, and I use 3 different blue tooth devices with it, 1 BT speaker, 1 BT ear piece, and a BT Headphone set. All work perfect and instantly. I hope Ford updates it's Blue Tooth, or sync system. This is very frustrating.
  13. I am very dissapointed with the Nav system in my 2013 Fusion. It cost almost $900.00, and if purchased at a store would be worth less then $100.00 compared to other Nav systems. Here are major issues, - Does not sort by distance, only by date or name. If you have a lot of favorites, say 100, you scroll for ever to get to the end of the list. Maybe you have several for Las Vegas. You drive there, you should be able to sort by distance so that they show at the top of the list. - It takes forever to figure out where you are. Up to 5 minutes in some cases. Even if I remote start, it doesn't start until I get to the car and actually hit the start button. - It is very slow. It needs to think for a second or so each time I touch the screen. Response should be instant. - I have to re-select 3D view almost every time I use it as it reverts back to its standard view. - I have to re-select .25 as the zoom as this also reverts back. I hope there is some update. If I had to do it again I would not spend 3 or 4 times what it should have cost. Ford should contract with Garmin, as all things would be resolved. For $350.00 I can get the latest and greatest NAV system that money can buy. For double that I amount I am very dissapointed.
  14. I have a 2013 Ford Fusion and using an iPhone 4s. I downloaded the instructions for AppLink, but my Sync does not understand "Mobile Applications" which is the first command I am supposed to give. Does anyone have AppLink working ??
