I have e a 2013 Ford Edge, I want to update the maps. The Ford website states that my SYNC must be up to date first. When I follow their instructions to update my Sync I get file not found error. Has anyone been able to resolve this install problem? The file name that they said to download based on my VIN is EA5T14D544-BA I currently have SYNC2 version 3.61.

    Thanks

Hi Dean. You may want to call the SYNC customer support number for assistance. I am not sure how much support SYNC 2/MyFord Touch still receives.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Hi bbf2530, I just seen your post, and I just installed the new update. How long did it take you to do the install? It took approx. 5 minutes for the install for me. I was just wondering.../

Hi skullmurphy. It was a quick one. The installation took about 15-20 minutes for me. The way to determine if the installation was successful is easy. Just go into the settings on your SYNC screen and look at the "About SYNC" settings to see what version is now installed. If it shows SYNC version 23219, you are good.

just noticed it and came here, what has changed?

Hi ShelbyGT350. Unfortunately, Ford does not provide release notes for updates. At least not easily discoverable ones. At this point in time, the rare SYNC v3.0.xxxxx updates we get will most likely only be to address bug fixes, new iOS and Android OS releases etc. It is doubtful there will be be new/observable features.

What I can tell you is...I installed the update three days ago. The installation went well. And my SYNC 3.0 system, which has always operated well, is still running the same. No observable changes.

Perhaps another member will have more insider information and jump in to help.

    Good luck.

    Hi,

Quick question... does scanning for updates continue after I switch my van off?

    Thanks

Hi johnny h. According to Ford, the scanning and/or the process of downloading SYNC 3 updates via WiFi can continue for up to 30 minutes after the vehicle/engine is turned off.

    Good luck.

    Hi folks,

I have had a bizarre problem with my 2019 ford edge for a couple of days. The Sync screen is not working (black) for the radio, navigation etc, etc. but the screen itself is working when I turn the cameras on. plus the radio is working since I can hear the music and change the volume, but I am not able to switch the radio station from the main console or the steering wheel. the volume from the main knob and the steering wheel works fine but not the other buttons (concerning the radio of course).

    any help?

Hi nibhelim and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. You can try a SYNC Master Reset, as explained in the Owners Manual. If that does not work, then you can try to disconnect the negative battery terminal for 10 minutes. That will sometimes help with issues like this.

If those two options do not work, then a service visit may be necessary.

I am sure others will jump in with more help and advice, so keep us updated and good luck.

So it is 2024 and I am also having the same problem with my 2016 Explorer. The first message I got was "Installation failed! The installation has run out of space or does not work with this version". Now after I got that I came back in and deleted everything and downloaded the file once again. Once I put the USB drive in the slot it said "File Not Found! Please check that the installation file is in the root directory of your storage device". Also when I download the update there are 22 different files that come with it. Am I not supposed to put them on the USB drive?

Hi ElizabethG and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. More information may be helpful.

    For example:

    - What model year/vehicle do you have?

    - What version of SYNC is currently installed in your vehicle?

    - What are you attempting to update, your SYNC system or your NAV/Navigation system?

    - Where did you obtain the update files from? The official Ford or Lincoln SYNC 3 NAV update website, or another source?

    - Did you precisely follow the SYNC 3 or NAV system update instructions? They have to be followed precisely, or the update will not be successful.

I can also state that from experience, it sounds as though you have too many files on the USB. However, that is blind Internet diagnosis, which is worth exactly what we pay for it.

Get back to us with more information and good luck.

    Hello,

I have a 2022 Ford F150 that needed a modem update as I lost connectivity for a month and a half. After the dealership visit for the update I still have connection problems. I have called the help line and they walked me through 1)verifying my modem version was current and 2) deleting the vehicle in 'Ford Pass' and re-installing the vehicle which shows the lock/unlock and start buttons but they don't work and in a couple of hours the remote buttons disappear again.

I have turned off the connectivity buttons and back on again but it makes no difference and the remote features on the dash are turned on. Any helpful thoughts on restoring the remote features?

Hi Erik0 and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. Since you have pretty much exhausted the self-help end of things, I would recommend you schedule another service appointment to have this properly diagnosed and corrected. Anything else may very well wind up being a temporary band-aid which only lasts long enough for your warranty to expire.

I am sure others will jump in with more advice and recommendations, so keep us updated and good luck.

Logging in to my ford account and trying to see what to do after the update  I got the remark : "ER IS EEN FOUT OPGETREDEN.  PROBEER HET LATER OPNIEUW."    A mistake occured, try later again.

Since thn nothing changed. What to do?

Hi ceesdg and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forums. More information would be helpful, such as:

    - What vehicle do you have and what model year is it?

    - What version of SYNC was in it before you updated? The full version number, not just "SYNC 3.4". It should be something like "SYNC 3.4.XXXXX" (the X's being numbers).

    - Did you obtain this update file from the Ford SYNC update site, or is this a third party update from a third party source,  such as CyanLabs etc.?

    - Where are you located?

As much information as possible will be helpful.

This could be something as simple as a temporary glitch in the Ford SYNC system when you checked your Ford account, to an incomplete/corrupted installation etc. etc.

Keep us updated and good luck.

Thank you, I have found the sync version and did the update, the system told me a map update is available but I couldn't find what version of map was currently on. Not that important, I was curious to find out if the previous owner had done an update or not.

as for the subscription... do you know if it's from date of purchase or calendar year?

Hi, new to the group and look forward to learn and participate.

I purchased a used 2019 F250 a year ago. Version available NA 2 22 is available and I will purchase the subscription but I had a couple questions I was curious about before proceeding.

How often do updates become available? once a year or more?

Is there a general time of year where updates are made available?

How do I tell what version is currently installed?

The subscription is it on a calendar or date of purchase year?

    thank you!

Hi Jean Blondin. You are very welcome.

I am not sure I understand your subscription question as to "....do you know if it's from date of purchase or calendar year?", so I will answer in this way:

As previously mentioned, SYNC 3 NAV map updates are released once a year.  So if you purchase the 1 year update/subscription, you get the one update available at that time.

If you purchase the 5 year update/subscription, you get the update currently available, and then the next 4 updates (one per year). You will be notified when each annual update becomes available and can download it at any time in the following 11-12 months, up until the next update is released.

If I misunderstood your question, let me know and I will give it another shot.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Hi Jean Blondin and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. Updates for the SYNC 3 NAV map system are offered once a year. Usually some time in the area of late-August to mid-September.

can find what NAV map version you currently have by going into the settings on your vehicle SYNC screen, then "About SYNC". There you can access your current SYNC version, NAV map version etc.

You should also see if there is a SYNC 3 system update available for your vehicle. You can find out if your vehicle has available SYNC and NAV map updates here: https://www.ford.com/support/sync-maps-updates/

Hi, thank you. It’s 2012. The button won’t turn on, that’s the whole problem. I can’t toggle it. If I press the phone button it just mutes and sync button does nothing at all.

Hi Sci. What does your Owners Manual state is the procedure to connect a Bluetooth phone? If you are following that procedure correctly and it will not connect, then there must be an issue with the system that would need to be diagnosed and corrected. Or you can also follow the instructions to perform  SYNC Master Reset in your vehicle to see if that fixes it.

I’m hoping someone can help! Just bought a ford fiesta with sync 1 (I think) and when I go to Bluetooth, I can’t get it to turn on. When I press the phone button, it just mutes the radio. Can anyone offer any help?
I’ve plugged in with USB and it doesn’t register and if I press the voice activation button, it doesn’t do anything.

Hi Sci and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. First, what model year is your Fiesta? Next, the screen in your photos indicates that Bluetooth is turned off in your vehicle, so you would need to turn it on/enable it in the SYNC settings.

Next...while l am not overly familiar with "SYNC 1" at this point, have you actually connected your phone to the SYNC system and Bluetooth? It is not automatic until you perform an initial connection.  If you have not, you first need to connect the phone, following the instructions in your Owners Manual.

In addition you should probably perform a SYNC Master Reset first, in order to delete all previous phones, driver profiles, etc.

If you do not have the hard copy of your Owners Manual, you can download the PDF version here: https://www.fordpro.com/en-us/fleet-vehicles/manuals-and-guides/

It is also possible that your phone is not compatible with the "SYNC 1", since it is a legacy system.

"What build of Sync 3.4 do you have?  If anything less than 3.4 build 23188, then update it and see if your issues are resolved.  The problems you are describing are typical on build 22251."

Yes, indeed, I had 22251. I had set the auto update feature, but it shut off when powered down, so it did not update on its own. It also lost my Wi-Fi connection. Today, given your advice, I babysat the unit with the vehicle on accessory. It downloaded and installed 23188. Took about an hour and a half. I have only tried a couple of features, but they are working fine. Whomever was in charge of 22251 ought to have an unpaid vacation and a mandatory testing review. BTW, I have not looked, but is there a way to download updates via some Ford website to a USB and then update from that source? Just a curiosity.

Hi Rick D. You were lucky. SYNC 3 updating via WiFi is a spotty proposition for many.

However, to answer your question: Yes, there is a Ford SYNC 3 update website. You can find it here- https://www.ford.com/support/sync-maps-updates/

There you can check for available SYNC 3 updates, download them, and follow the instructions to load to a USB Flash drive and install in your vehicle.

    Good luck.

I have a 2020 F150 Limited purchased new in June 2020.  One of the first things I setup was connecting to iHeart Radio on my iPhone 8 Plus.  It has been working fine ever since then.

When I start the car and wait a few minutes, from the main screen on the car radio, I select Audio, then Sources, then iHeart.

For the past couple weeks, iHeart is not showing at all.

Anyone know how to get that selection back in Sources?

Forgot to mention that Pandora also used to be on Sources, but its been gone for a while also.

    Thanks

Hi johnmsch. Try this: Go into your iPhone settings. Then choose "General". Then "CarPlay". Then "Sync 3". Then "Customize". Check to be sure iHeart Radio and Pandora (and whichever other applicable apps you want) are still chosen to show in the "Include" list.

If they are not, move them from the "More apps" list to wherever you want them on the "Include" list.

Hello again bbf2530 . When I put my vin into the Ford update site it shows my sync is up to date but that there is a map update available. Not sure if things like type of vehicle ( mine is a 2022 Ecosport) or country (Canada) make a difference but it shows my sync is up to date, so no option to update it only the map.

HI g2thew. Yes, those factors can change the variables. However, the immediate actions you can take are pretty much the same. Either it is glitch in the Ford SYNC 3 NAV map update website which will be corrected soon (hopefully), or help from Ford Customer Relations, or a service appointment with your Ford Dealer.

Keep us updated and  good luck.

Hi bbf2530.  My map version is  NA 2 20  and the sync version is  3.4.22200

Hi g2thew. Okay. The latest NAV map version is "NA 2 22". So you do have an available update for your NAV maps. And SYNC v3.4.2220 is an older version, so there should be an available SYNC update for your vehicle via the SYNC 3 update website.

If you keep trying the SYNC 3 and NAV map websites, getting error messages and are not able to download those updates, and Ford Customer Relations can not assist you, I would recommend scheduling a service appointment with your Ford Dealership.

I am sure others will jump in with more advice if they feel they can help.

The map version I have right now is N 220 . Not sure but I think the update is for N 222 . My sync versin is 3.4

Hi g2thew. Just to avoid confusion...Please double check your map version. If you are located in the US/Canada, it would be something like "NA 2 20" . Not "N220"  And the latest update is "NA 2 22", not "N 222".

Also, "SYNC 3.4" is only your SYNC version. The full SYNC version needs to include the SYNC version (i.e. SYNC 3.4) and the Build number, which will consists of 5 digits ("XXXXX"). So it would be something like "SYNC 3.4.XXXXX" (the X's being numbers).

Keep us updated and good luck.

Thank you bbf2530. I have been trying the SYNC 3 NAV map update website for a few weeks with the same error each time. Also the wifi network that I connect my vehicle to is strong. The main reason for my post here was to find out if anyone else had this same issue and if it was resolved.

    Thanks again.

After calling customer service I was advised to check for updates using sync in the vehicle, then waiting 24hrs and retrying to download from ford's site. Same error occurs after doing this. . Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi g2thew and welcome to the Ford Sync Forum. My wild Internet guess? There is quite possibly a glitch in the SYNC 3 NAV map update website. It happens once in a while. Just try again over the next few days. If you have no luck, call the Ford Customer Relations line again.

One question: When you checked for updates using sync in the vehicle", was the SYNC system in your vehicle connected to a strong WiFi network signal? If not, connect it to a strong WiFi network signal and try again.

Keep us updated and good luck.
