Indexing USB then nothing.

Recommended Posts

Good Morning, I have been trying to update the navi system, and I was told that I needed to update my Sync also.  So I downloaded that and set it up.  I have the 8/30/21 edition of the upgrade.  But nothing happens.  I plug in the USB and the screen says indexing SyncmyRide, next it says Indexing complete. Then nothing,

Not sure if it is the download the car or what?  But this is a bit frustrating.  Is there any difference between the upgrades?  Is it even worth my time and frustration with the sync and navigation upgrades?

Thanks

Sounds like your USB is not set up properly. It should not be trying to index the USB.  Did you build it using windows or mac?  Some users have had issues on macs getting the USB properly configured.

Check the instructions that you can download from the maps site and make sure it is set up exactly as instructed.

It does not matter these days, I do it on my Mac all the time.

there is a file that NEEDS to be there... (in the root, it comes with every download) even though it is a 0k file.  NONOTINDX.MSA

Then the vehicle will not try to index it...

if it's there, and it is still indexing... then something did not happen right.

I am doing this off a Mac and I did get those direction and followed them for the set up.  I am going to try it again, but this time I am going to put each file on the drive individually and not in a file folder containing the 9 files but 9 individual files.

EDIT;  the update is only 1.88 GB and has 7 zipped files.  Does that sound correct?

Will try that and then report back

The map files vary somewhat depending on your Sync version.

2.20 maps files:

For my 2018 Fusion with Sync 3.0, it is 12.9GB.  There are 7 files in the SyncMyRide folder and 2 files in the root folder (autoinstall.lst and DONTINDX.MSA).

For my 2020 Ranger with Sync 3.4, it is 12.3 GB.  There are 14 files in the SyncMyRide folder and 2 in the root folder (autoinstall.lst and DONTINDX.MSA).

Then you need to download the License file and place it in the SyncMyRide folder.

Sync update files also vary depending on what Ford thinks your existing version is and what you are updating to.

The Sync 3.4 update for my 2020 Ranger is 1.8 GB with 7 files in the SyncMyRide folder and the same 2 files as above in the root.  This was going from 3.4.20282 to 3.4.21194.

The Sync update for my 2018 Fusion was only 417MB with 4 files in the SyncMyRide folder and the same 2 files as anove in the root.  This was going from 3.0.19205 to 3.0.20204.

While many users have successfully done this on a mac, you may consider using a windows pc to build your USB if you continue to have issues.

Sync and the Maps are different installs, and different files.

Sync will have 2 files and a folder with multiple files in it

Sort of like this below , if you download the file and do not get the SyncMyRide folder, then create one, and move the tar.gz files in it.  make sure you rename them without the SyncMyRide as part of the same .  They used to come that way, but the last time they did not for me, they came correct.  Could be the version of the OS I'm useing , or Ford fixed the issue.  😎

Ok, looking at that, the auto instal and do not index are inside sync folder. I will try to move them outside and see if it works

Ok, then where did you get the file from?  If not owner.ford.com then I'm sure it's either the wrong one, or just does not work.
