sync 3 locks up when iphone attached or detetched

Recommended Posts

hello all,

I have a three day old 2019 f150 with sync 3.  the sync 3 system randomly locks up when i attach or remove my iPhone.  we have tried three different phones and multiple cables and all have locked the system up.  must be a problem with carplay i guess.  sometimes the system doesn't lock up but the carplay just won't come up.  doing a hard reset (volume and >> key) will get it working again, but sometime after... maybe 5 minutes, maybe 3 hours, it will lock up again usually when carplay tries to start or close.

i took it to the dealer today and they did some kind of reset that took 10 minutes or so.  some kind of memory flush or something.  i'm pretty frustrated as i specifically bought a model with sync 3.  maybe it was a bad decision!

anyone else seen this behavior?

thanks in advance for any assistance you might be able to provide.

Have a look at the software build number, you want to see build 18093 - as this is the latest release and has been around since approx May/June 2018.

Woooo! I havent seen that version before, it doesnt look like your problem is an old software version... it was worth checking though.

The 2019's come with 3.2 or 3.3 , the units have more 'ram' so that version can be used.

Take it to the dealer, they can trouble shoot it...

I'm waiting to find a 2019 that was in a wreck so I can upgrade mine to that APIM.  Pre 2019's can only go to 3.0 18xxx (unless Ford does something about it.)

On your iPhone remove the Carplay and Bluetooth connections to Sync3. Then do a "Master Reset" on your Sync3. Then reconnect your iPhone to Bluetooth and then connect your iPhone to the USB cable and re-establish the Carplay connection. Allow carplay to work when iPhone is locked.

yep.  i tried the master reset.  no dice.  i guess I'm just gonna have to leave it at the dealer.  problem is that I'm 99 percent sure it won't happen when they have it.  i have lots of video evidence though.  hopefully that will count for something.

thanks all for the advice!  keep it coming!
